Good value hotel in an ideal position for all that Nice offers. To get the best from this hotel get a room on 5th floor which have outside terrace areas.Rooms not large but very clean with brand new toilet and shower area.Staff all very helpful. If you are looking for a reasonably priced ,clean ,central hotel then this is for you.Plus the smallest lift I have ever been in !!!!!! give it a try.

We stayed here 4 nites before leaving for Paris. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the quiet residental area behind the main street. Our room was small but clean, The bathroom has been newly renovated and very nice. Our only complaint (minor) was the lack of an English speeking tv station in the room but there is free wifi which was a big plus! I've read some of the negative comments and want to add that the hotel is under new management and we had no problems whatsoever. The manager bent over backwards for us, even taking the time to locate and print our boarding passes for Air France before we left. The location is great and the room a good value for Nice. We would definately stay again.

Hotel Solara is basic but very clean and in a good location. The staff are very helpful and friendly and speak English. We had a room at the front of the hotel and although it was nice to have a view over the street it was extremely noisy in the night when the rubbish from cafes was collected. I would recommend asking for a room at the back. The beds are rather firm but fine for a couple of nights.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and found it to be excellent value. Having stayed in Nice before we kinda knew our way around and this time picked the Solara in order to get a balcony at a reasonable price. We were allocated Room no. 7 which is at the back of the hotel and seems to have a larger balcony than some of the others...a table and two chairs and still plenty of room to lie down and sun bathe! We got sun on the balcony from early morning till late evening. For a small supplement our breakfast was served on the balcony each morning, which was magic...simple but really good. Our room was small but very clean with an excellent bathroom. The hotel staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Besides the balcony the highlight has to be the lift. I've never been in a smaller lift....it was so cool!!!

The best thing about this hotel was its air conditioning. It was quite hot and humid in Nice during my visit. The location was pretty good too, only 100m from the beach and a fifteen minute walk to the main train station. The staff were friendly and helpful and I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Nice. The street below is full of restaurants and bars that are quite lively. In terms of the room itself, the bed was quite short for me as I am 6'3" and the shower was interestingly situated in a closet-like space in the wall so you'd be walking out onto carpet when dripping wet. The room had a small fridge too which was handy and the balcony was good to sit out on during the evening.

Stepping out of this hotel, you are instantly thrown into one of Nice's busiest roads, full of pizzerias, boulangeries and just a quick walk on to the Promenade and beach. The location was superb.

And what about the hotel? Well, it has its ups and downs...unlike the lift during our stay! (Yes, it was working, but we didn't want to risk it! The other reviewers are right...the lift is tiny and looks decidedly antiquated...I don't like lifts at the best of times so I just endured the stairs every time!)

The ups about the hotel...the owner is just lovely and always went out of his way to help us, although he wasn't around too much. The rooms are a very good size (well, our one was - number 7) and we even had a balcony that we could have breakfast on. The furnishings are simple but light, airy and modern. We had extremely good air conditioning and even a fridge. There was free wi-fi too. All things that you don't tend to expect from a two-star...

The downs. Well. The mattress felt a little cheap and wasn;t the most comfy to sleep on, though it was perfectly adequate. We don't know what kind of cleaning products the maid was using but they stank out ofthe place for the rest of the day. When we got back, we had to leave the windows open to try to rid the place of the fumes. Our balcony view was a little uninspiring and the breakfast was fine, but nothing special for the price, with not much selection, so we tended to breakfast out, where there was a lot of choice. The walls were paper thin and unfortunately we had very loud people staying in the room next to us. They'd stagger back at three in the morning and bang their wardrobe doors a lot as they got ready for bed...and their wardrobe was kindly positioned right on the other side of the wall our bed was on. Ouch.

But overall I would recommend this place. It's a decent price in a very good location and you do get more perks than other two stars. But we stayed at another hotel in Nice during our holiday - Nice Garden Hotel - and that was just the loveliest hotel. So maybe that raised our standards too high by the time we stayed here!

Wow. My husband and I stayed here for three nights to begin our southern France tour. Every one of our flights were delayed and we knew we would be arriving late. The hotel staff were amazing and understanding. The room was quite small but the bed was comfy. Ask for a top floor room so you can have a balcony. Perfectly located on the pedestrian blvd. Parking close by. Small elevator.

I would stay here again immediately. Loved it! Thank you.
