“Stay away”
Reviewed 14 December 2013

Ok,
I give to the hotel that:
- low fare: I paid 48 euro for one night stay
- Quite silent: it provides average sleep quality
- It offers parking: under payment (around 7 or 8 euros per day) you can park the car
Now the bad...
- Bad infrastructure: the window's locker was completely broken. Being a double window it did not provide any issue, even though, is a sign of how badly care is taken over this place
- Location: very very bad, forget about restaurants around......and some prostitutes at night in the surroundings. And worst of all....far from the main city sights.
- Bad and "anonymous" service: you feel treated like cattle. The hotel is too large to provide coziness.
- Decoration: blah....It reminded me the old hotel from "shining" really.

Stay away....the city offers better option at slightly more expensive fares.

My stay at "Hôtel des Anglais-Nice", which was my first time in Nice, was made so wonderful and conveniently homely by the staff of the hotel. In particular one, Mr. Georges, a bellboy who went all out to even help me plan my whole stay in Nice, as I dreamt it could be. There is only one word for the service...OUTSTANDING.

I felt very uneasy in this hotel due to the risk of fire and poor hotel exits. Guests are not supposed to smoke in the rooms but they do and the non smoking policy is not enforced. Avoid if you are a non smoker as the residual smoke will enter your room. .I arrived by train to Nice Ville so the hotel location was very inconvenient. Tourist Info did not point out that it is closer to St Augustin station.
Booked a triple room which included a bunk. There was not enough room to lay out three small suitcases.

We stayed here for 4 nights, if you are looking for a basic room around Nice then this is really good. It is just 10mins walk from terminal 1 if you follow the cycling lane to the right. It right across along the promenade.
It is clean, location is satisfactory, and the staff are helpful. Be reminded that the room is really basic plus small, it is close to the airport but is soundproof. The bed is comfortable(we actually just needed a place to sleep in so im quite happy with this hotel). The town centre is accessible through bus which will take you there for 30mins depends on the traffic. Just outside in front of the hotel is a bus station where you can go to nearby villages (bus 400, 500,200 if you fancy going to grasse, st paul or cannes). The hotel is easy to find and buses are accessible.

The good things about this hotel- it's very close to the airport, not even a ten minute drive and you can't hear the planes from your room. It's air conditioned, affordable and clean
The bad things about this hotel- Check in took a little while, the guy had the front desk had no idea we had a reservation, and it was very hot and stuffy. There is one lift that is very small and slow making getting to and from your room very tedious. When there are alot of people checking in with big luggage, it can take a long time just to get to your room.
The rooms were small and air conditioned but the bathroom was just ridiculous. A tiny, pink pod with a shower so small you can't wash without banging into the walls. One night we stayed there, there was a black out & it took the hotel 6 hours to get power back on. Not enjoyable at all!
There is wifi but it's only accessable downstairs at reception and there was no bottled water for sale in the vending machines.
The website makes out that the hotel is so close to the main part of Nice but it's at least an hour's walk away and you need to walk at least ten minutes to get to the ocean, not across the road as their website states.

The room we stayed in was with a broken window so we could here everything from downstairs. Beachkfast was only stale bread and jam. The only thing was they supplied free wifi although it only was able to be connected near reception.

In an ideal position on a service road at the Western end of Promenade des Anglais.
Check-in was very slow - more than 10 minutes in a very hot enclosed area with many people having to stand around.
Although opposite the end of the runway of Nice airport, the double-double glazed windows didn't let any noise in, although they also stopped any fresh air. And the air cooling unit just moved the air around, very noisily.
The airport closes down from midnight to 6am, so although I would have liked fresh air overnight, I couldn't open the inner window anyway as the handle had been removed (vandal or by intent I don't know as there was a hole where the handle should have been).
Door lock didn't appear very secure and the secondary chain didn't have a keeper so was useless.
Two lifts (each 6-8 people without luggage!) for a hotel that size meant that there was a continual throng of people standing around at reception on floor 3, and at the entrance on floor 0. And once one lift decided to jam 15cm below floor 0, then it was down to 1. Stairs were available but very little signage and it was only after queueing at reception for ages that we were told where they were (at the outer ends of the corridors).
Breakfast - yet more queueing, 10-15 minutes seemed the norm - only one member of staff and continually having to replenish stocks - one coffee machine failed leaving just 1. There were 4 orange juice dispensers but they emptied during breakfast so it was down to the same member of staff to replenish these, all the time the queues (and frustrations) getting longer.
Perhaps the queueing was built into the design as at no time were there more than 1 or 2 spare tables.

Room Tip: Not on floor 3 (reception and vending so noisy)
