The hotel is about 2 minutes walking distance of the main train station and of bus stops for the main lines, and 3 minutes from the tram stop. If you don't mind the noise from the street - it's small but the main post office is across the one lane street with trucks arriving in the middle of the night and early in the morning- the hotel location is very convenient. The hotel is tiny- a very friendly couple runs it. The owner is only around in the morning but can be reached via cellphone 24hours.
Free wifi, freshly renovated rooms, flat screen TV and AC are a nice small luxury. If you have a light sleep though, you will wake up from the sounds other guests are making.

If you plan to make Nice your base for exploring the cote d'azure then this little hotel will suit you perfectly. Less than 2 min walk to the station is ideal.
The hotel itself is very clean and tidy but as it's 2 stars indicate it is quite basic. No complaints at all - good value for money. Just note there are no lifts so some guests may find it a little tricky getting luggage upstairs.

Excellent budget hotel in walking distance of beach (10 mins) main shopping street (10 mins ) station (2 mins ). I stayed for 6 nights in a superior single room, had everything I could need, ensuite bathroom, fridge, microwave, air con and free wifi. Rooms cleaned everyday and to a high standard. The owner was very friendly and helpful. I contact him prior to staying as I was arriving late and he provided me with the code and where to find my key.
My only gripe was the noise of the other guests, I appreciate that the door is on a buzzer system and so makes a noise. However, there were heavy footed and loud voiced guests returning to the hotel after midnight which was inconsiderate to those trying to sleep!

Room Tip: Though I complained about the noise Room 2 is large and good for single or couple

We stayed at the Berlioz at the end of September 2013 and it was in a good location for exploring Nice & the Cote d'Azur, with the railway station a brief walk away. The walk to the promenade was 10 minutes and it was about 15-20 into the Old Town and a bit further to the Port.
The hotel itself was basic and clean. There was no fridge in our room (4), as some have said, which we would have welcomed.
And when we arrived at 18:30pm there was no-one at reception. Instead we'd had an answer phone message giving us a code to get in and our key was left in an envelope on reception - along with several others.
The hotel owner was there in the mornings only, meaning there was nowhere secure to leave the room key during the day & we had to take it with us.
Another fault relates to the City Tax. We booked with Expedia and there is no indication that we'd be charged a City Tax - until we checked out and were given a bill with no explanation about it. We paid but I wish I hadn't!

Room Tip: Were not given a choice over room and the owner was not there to help us change, had we wanted to.

This is a budget hotel, it is simple, basic and clean. It was more like a hostel than a hotel. Staff were friendly, helpful and informative. Our room was very small but adequate to sleep in. There was no access to the roof terrace, we were told it had to be closed due to safely concerns. this was disappointing as it was one of the reasons I had chosen this hotel. The hotel location was good for onward travel as was near the train station and buses to airport. The tramway (to the centre) was 5 mins walk away, and Nice centre about 15 mins walk.
