“PERFECT IN EVERY WAY”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

We chose this Hotel because of the excellent reviews and it did not disappoint. The Hotel is perfectly located in the main square in Port Grimaud, by the water with beautiful views from our canal bedroom window. The room (Room 12, canal view, 1st floor) was exceptionally clean, the air conditioning was very quiet and efficient and the bed very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff. There is a small mini bar which was most useful on our first night.

We did not have breakfast in the Hotel as we preferred to have a wander and find a café locally.

We ate at La Table du Mareyeur one evening which was excellent which I have reviewed separately, it's right on the canal and the fish was excellent. We also ate at Restuarant Le Bistroquet as we fancied a steak and it was very good. However the best Restaurant where we ate at 3 times is the Restaurant La Maree, (Re de L'Octogone) do find this it is a little gem, we were the only English people there. The fish is absolutely devine and we ate here our last night and it was even better.

Room Tip: Room 12, 1st Floor very very quiet.

Hotel is located just in the centre of Port Grimaud, it's small and lovely and we had beautiful view from the room balcony. The room and bathroom were quite small, but clean and comfortable. Staff was very nice and helpful and we were offered complimentary coffee and drinks on the arrival.
Parking is available free of charge in front of the entrance to town (2 minutes walk to hotel). Wifi is also free.
Definitely recommended!

At first surprised that there was no record of our booking, despite the hotel sending a confirmation email 3 months earlier. (They obviously found the booking later, as they had already taken payment). However, we were sorted with a room whilst we parked in the free residents car park - would have preferred a first floor room overlooking the canal as originally booked, but overlooking the square was not too noisy in May, apart from the boules chink, chink on the last night. Might be noisier later in the season.
Room was compact, but comfortable and clean. Staff were excellent, welcoming, friendly, informative.
Poor points.
1. No coffee making facilities in the room (we NEED coffee, immediately we wake up!), however staff provided coffee service for the room (collection or delivery, but only after 7:30am)
2. Breakfast area in reception not as comfortable as other hotels we've stayed at and no bar, but we presume this will be corrected with extension/alterations being carried out on the ground floor.
3. No on site staff between 10:30 pm and 7:30am
However, the poor points did not distract too much from our stay, just 'room for improvement'. Wonderful place for being in the middle of Port Grimaud - got very friendly with bars and restaurants around the square.

Room Tip: First floor rooms overlooking the canal are the best.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for leaving a comment on the Trip Advisor website.
We are sorry for not having found your reservation dates which have been changed on our planning. Fortunately we could have been able to give you the same room category.
For your information, all our Classic rooms are located on the ground floor and have french windows. We have taken into account your wife's request and have upgraded you in a Superior room with balcony overlooking the Place du Marché ( the Canal views are only for the Classic rooms on the ground floor or our Privilege rooms on the first floor ).
Thank you as well for your suggestions. Our rooms being rated 3 stars we haven't installed any coffee ou tea making facilities but have installed last week a coffee and tea machine in our main lobby in order to offer hot and fresh drinks to our guests for free.
We do not have a night auditor at our hotel ( we only have 19 rooms ) but there is a person inhouse in case of emergency.
Many thanks for your compliments regarding our staff shared with our entire team.
We hope to have the pleausure to welcome you once again!
Best regards,

Didier PETIT

My wife stayed at the Hotel Le Suffren for one night when in the area. Port Grimaud is charming and the hotel is perfectly located right in its heart.

We had a standard double room on the ground floor right by the canal. It was very small; just about sufficient width for the bed and two bedside tables. It was full of character, but not for the shy and retiring since the canal walkway is directly outside the glass door and windows so that passers by have a full frontal into your bedroom. That might be a little off putting in the tourism high season, as might be what I would anticipate to be noise that would come with increased foot traffic. At that time of year one of the rooms on the first or second floors would probably be better.

My wife loves her coffee in the morning, but surprisingly there is no in room coffee/tea making capability.

Note that parking is a 5 minute walk away from the hotel unless you want to pay 18 euros a night.

Dear Madame, Dear Sir,

First and foremost we would like to thank you for your comment left on Trip Advisor.
As you have pointed out, all our " Classic " standard rooms are a little small and do have a french window which overlooks the ground floor ( just in front of the canal ).
As you have noticed, this side of Port Grimaud is calm and even during summertime these rooms are not noisy as in each room, the windows are all double glazed and have thick curtains.
Since our rooms are not very spacious it is impossible to install coffee and tea machines so as to possibly drink a coffee or tea.
This matter has already been pointed out to us, so last week we have decided to install in our main lobby coffee and tea making facilities as well as fruit cordial for our guests.
As you have seen for yourselves our guests can arrive by car in front of the Hotel and then park for free at the Résident Parking or book a car parking in front of the hotel ( bearing in mind that we only have 3 available spots ) at the daily rate of 18 Euros per day.
We hope you will come back to Hôtel Le Suffren and that you will book a room on the first floor ( which all have a balcony ).
Best regards,

Didier PETIT

Perfect - just perfect. The afternoon sun in the balcony is unforgettable.
Location: excellent in the French "Venice" of Port Grimaud. Romantic, quiet and peaceful.
Service: extremely polite, helpful and welcoming staff, happy to give us a sea view room even though we only stayed for one night.
Room: spacious, clean, modern, aesthetic and cozy.
Food: excellent breakfast, felt like home. The bread basket was a great surprise!
Parking: free in the nearby controlled area.
Will go again to relax!

This hotel is a perfect place for staying near St. Tropez. You have boats that take you to the downtown so you don't need to get the road that is always full of cars. The hotel is extremely beautiful, in front of the canals of the sea that make Port Grimaud be called French Venice. The bed was really confortable and the bath tub perfect. I want to come back soon.

We found the Hotel staff extremely helpful and polite in general. We had a late flight and only arrived to check in at 10.30pm luckily the Receptionist waited for us after calling us to check where we were. I had emailed beforehand to inform the Hotel of our arrival time which I would recommend and they do have provision if you miss the normal latest check in time of 10pm. The breakfast was very nice with a range of fruit juices, tea and coffee, cereals, yogurt, cheese, ham, fresh fruit and a bread basket filled with croissants, sliced bread and baguette. They also had lovely pots of different jams and marmalades on the table.
I reserved a parking space at the front of the Hotel as I had a broken ankle and this was fairly steep at 18E per day, but a necessity if you have mobility problems, The free car park is not far away, but over a main road, cobbles and two bridges. Port Griimaud itself is not very disabled friendly.
The only problem we had was being woken up one night at around 2am to screaming in the corridor and deliberate slamming of doors. Other residents got up and complained to these thoughtless and no doubt drunk guests who seemed to be having a party in one of the rooms. The Hotel itself said they had had a quiet word with these guest after other complaints.
The room and bathroom were small, but perfectly adequate. The room was always clean.
