Such a lovely and interesting area... Chic, chic, chic...the French know best how to do chic, and here, you can see it all around you.
Hire a car and drive around the hilly peninsula... One street after another, you will fall in love with Saint-Jean, Cap-Ferrat

There are many diversions along the Sentier du Littoral, one of which is the path from Saint-Jean-cap-Ferrat. they call it a hike, but a stroll is more like it. Be aware there is no shade along your jaunt so hang a bottle of water in your backpack and your swimming gear & towel because the heat and the blue of the water is intoxicating.

You've no doubt gained a reasonable tan by now,so the hike around the Cape is an Eden where geraniums compete with hibiscus, jasmine, bougainvillaea, roses, wisteria and citrus flowers to not only perfume the air,but sit heavily on hedges and walls. The privacy they create is matched by their showcasing the villas behind them.

You will see lots of "keep out" signs on gates but its a public path so press on and enjoy the excursion. We started at The beach in front of the Hotel-Royal-Riviera after exploring delightful Braulieu- Sur- Mer. You are now on the path called Prom Maurice Rouvier, which meanders past lots of pink coloured villas some boasting their own harbours. There's a plethora of beauty not only heightened by the bluest waters of the cape but by gorgeous gardens that belong to fab villas.

Shortly we arrive at the picture-licious fishing village of saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat where an aparo, caffeine or ice-cream is suitable action as you case out one of the cutest village shops and cafes on the Riviera. the Tromp l'Oeil flowers painted around door of the Town hall is a busy photo-op junction. It was not only Matisse who was captivated by the purity of the light here. the interplay of light and colour in the marina, with turquoise and teal-blue boats bobbing up and down is mesmerising. a pad will set you back a zillion. In fact, its Russians cashed- up that are the biggest grinners here.

Stay on Ave.Jean Mermoz, past the Hotel Brise Marine until you hit Paloma Beach, one of the sweet-spot coves on the coast and definitely where i would have moored my imaginary yacht. We lunched here and took a dip for a magnificent feeling.

Follow Ave de la Puncia right to the base of the mighty Grand-Hotel-du-Cap-Ferrat,and from the lighthouse ascend the steps to the residential streets. We are Somerset Maugham fans,so respect was paid at his villa, but it paled with respect to the plethora of houses that are on show. This is gawking territory.

Its not long before you see the pink pile of Villa Ephrussi de Rothchild gardens and villa. its a must visit, for it has Madam's garden creation ,overlooking my favourite look-out over the sparkling sea from a rock seat carved into the cliff face.

We caught the bus back to Nice. it was an exhilarating, magnificent, full day. Next visit i am going to visit by boat and do the full James Bond shtick. AHHH... dreams.

Definitely worth the trip out there... You can take the train to Villefranche and walk (about 20-25 minutes to the start of the walk) or the bus from Nice (Place Garibaldi, bus#81) to St. Jean. Not much of a "hike", with the exception of a few stairs, but an amazing view. The path was for the most part empty, with the occasional couple passing. There are so many little spots to take a swim on the way (if you climb down) and you practically have your own little private spot on the Mediterranean. Yes, there is graffiti on the start of the route (at St. Jean), but definitely does not spoil the rest of the walk. Bring water!!! It gets really hot out there and not much shade and no where to stop for water or bathrooms... so just to keep in mind.
