“Wonderful place and wonderful people”

Our expectations were high for L'Escalinade and we were not disappointed! John, Joan and Ronnie are wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble. It felt like we were on holiday with friends :)

L'Escalinade is situated close to the town centre with parking on site, a beautiful swimming pool and a fabulous view over the bay. The rooms were lovely and comfortable, with full sized fridges in each, a terrace and beautiful fluffy towels in the bathroom :) Ronnie arrived each morning to escort us to a lovely breakfast. We hope to be back very soon - thanks for a wonderful break!

The ambience was great!!
Joan and John were fantastic hosts
Ronnie the boxer dog was so gentle that even my 86.5 year old mum who generally is scared with dogs was in love with him by the end of the 6 days
I actually cannot believe that the views could be beaten as the Gulf of St Tropez was stunning
Early evenings drinking fizzy as the sun lost its strength were marvellous
Five minutes down the hill and you are in the centre of Ste Maxime
We shall return!!

Joan and John are wonderful hosts and their dog Ronnie is so sweet. The rooms are white clean and bright and the breakfasts delicious. Beautifully situated for trips to St Tropez or for pottering into Ste Maxime
We would not hesitate to recommend this B&B it is charming and so are the hosts.

This was our second time staying at l'escalinade and it was just as lovely as the first. Joan, John and Ronnie are the most welcoming hosts , the views are beautiful- especially from the sun soak terrace , the breakfast is yummy and very fresh and the pool is great ! We will definitely be hoping to stay for a 4th time . I would not want to stay anywhere else in Ste Maxime.

“Charming, boutique B&B run by wonderful people”
Reviewed 31 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

This gorgeous b&b is more like an intimate boutique hotel albeit one run by friends. The owners, John and Joan, go out of their way to ensure you have a fabulous time staying in their home. We had two of the three bedrooms and both were charming and comfortable; being able to wake up to the stunning views of the bay of St Tropez was a real treat. As were the delicious breakfasts waiting for us downstairs in the garden. Every morning we were welcomed by the couple's friendly, yet well behaved dog, and by the owners who gave us many tips for where to visit or eat. The three bedrooms are on the top floor of the house - the owners live underneath. This is a large house so there is plenty of privacy and space.
The pool is lovely and a place of calm after visiting St Maxime, which is only a 5 minutes walk from the house. We were able to easily visit St Tropez by boat which was great fun. A visit to Club 55, is an experience not to be missed, as is the old town.
There is a private sun terrace for an evening pre-drink - although we were spoiled by John and Joan who invited us to sample their local rose wine in their VIP areas. We were made to feel extremely welcome. I would also point out that the towels are very fluffy - indeed i have now bought some from the same shop in the UK . I am bemused this is classed as a vacation rental as we stayed here on a B&B basis.

...Ronnie!

We booked with Joan, John and Ronnie as a result of the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, and we were not disappointed when we arrived.

We were first greeted by Ronnie who showed us round to the main terrace, then by the fantastic views over Ste-Maxime, and finally by John with arm outstretched, pouring us glass after delicious glass of Rose! Joan soon followed with great canapes and we sat by the pool chatting away with the other guests who'd arrived that day.

L'Escalinade is a lovely property, perched high above Ste-Maxime with fantastic views, and is just a couple of minutes walk from the center of town. Joan and John are very knowledgeable of the area and gave us some good advice with regards to places to go and things to see, one of which is the staggering Gorges du Verdon, which is a must see for anyone visiting the area.

Our room was lovely and clean, light, nicely decorated and had the best view of all from the balcony. Every morning we were escorted down to breakfast by Ronnie, which consisted of home made jams, local fruits, yoghurt, pan au chocolat, croissants, breads etc. that were a perfect start to the day.

Ste-Maxime is a nice town with plenty to see and do, but you may struggle to see it all as we found it difficult to drag ourselves away from the pool and the lovely, relaxed atmosphere that Joan and John have created at L'Escalinade.

All in all a great trip, and as so many have said before, it's easy to see why so many guests return :)

“Good location, nice hosts”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

L'Escalinade is the holiday home of an English couple; they live on the ground floor and rent the three bedrooms upstairs as a B&B in the summer months. The swimming pool and lovely main terrace are shared, but there is also a smaller terrace upstairs for the exclusive use of the guests.
The house is cozy and pretty, all rooms decorated with light traditional Provencal furniture. Our room was quite small but comfortable, although the bathroom was miniscule. The terraces all have a fabulous view of the sea and the bay.
The location itself is great, you are minutes away from the sea and the town center, yet away from noise and crowds.
The hosts are friendly and helpful, they obviously love the area and are always ready to help with suggestions. Ronnie the dog is a right laugh.
OK, so it's not posh and it's not a "boutique hotel" like one of the other reviewers pointed out, but in this area you'll have to pay a great deal of money for posh and boutique ! This B&B is good value for money and a pleasant place to spend a few relaxing days.
