“We really liked this hotel”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Matisse for 10 days during June and July. Our room overlooked the pool and was very quiet with little noise from the nearby streets Staff were very friendly and always helpful. Hotel is located in a side street minutes from the beach, restaurants and shops. There is an outside pool with sun loungers and parasols.Breakfast is served (weather permitting) on the terrace overlooking the pool and the breakfast choise was excellent. Public areas of the hotel were bright and comfortable. We would definately stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool were quiet.

It was time for the annual pilgrimage to Ste Maxime, Ascension weekend destination rest, relaxation and the odd glass of rosé! Our usual hostelry had undergone a name change and a face lift (Hôtellerie de la poste was no more) so would this signal the end of an era? Would disappointment cloud our usually fabulous time??
Not a bit of it! Didier is still at the helm and with his team of enthusiastic and welcoming ladies our wonderful weekend was assured.
The room is still comfortable, the breakfast delicious and great value for money and, it goes without saying, that the rosé is spot on!
Give the Matisse a go you won't be disappointed.

Dear Kate, Dear Emma,

First and foremost a huge thank you for your time for the review on TripAdvisor.
Like you, a lot of "former" guests were a little bit afraid of the change : new name, new decoration, new ambiance...
But our team is there and of course we are all quite proud regarding all the nice compliments we have received from our faithful guests.
Thank you a lot for your trust in our hotel.
It is thanks to you... & and for you we are coming on a great deal.
Kind regards,

Didier

We found this hotel on Tripadvisor and were not disappointed.
It's conveniently but quietly situated in a side street with parking opposite where you can leave your car for an hour while dropping off your luggage.
The staff were great - all extremely helpful and friendly. They smile a lot, too, which is always nice.

Our room was fairly standard for a hotel of this type, with a very comfortable bed and some slightly strange colour combinations on the walls (probably to evoke the colours used by Matisse)! The air conditioning was quiet and the bathroom slightly dated but very clean with plenty of hot water.

The breakfast was buffet-style and really good. Fruit salad, yoghurt, cereals, cheese, charcuterie, cake and pastries. There were some really delicious home-made jams and preserves, too.

This review was going to be 4 stars (because there are a few things that need updating and I'm sure will be attended to soon) but the cleanliness of the hotel, the bright spacious public areas and most importantly the lovely staff, outweighed any slight negatives.

We hope to return.

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

First and foremost, thank you very much for your comment left on Trip Advisor.
We have shared all these compliments concerning their welcome and kindness with our entire staff.

As you have seen, ou lobby, reception, lounge, bar, terrasse have been entirely refurnished and decorated this winter & this fall we will bring some changes to our rooms with new lights, bedside tables, chairs and armchairs ( like our bar )... in order to harmonize our entire hotel.
We are very pleased you have enjoyed our breakfast and in particular the local jams and freshness of our products.
Be sure that we will always do our best to maintain the highest quality while remaining kind and keeping the friendly atmosphere of our Hotel.
Hoping to welcoming you in the futur,

Best Regards,

We stayed one night, arrived late and continued our trip the next morning. I had chosen Ste. Maxime because I knew the town and expected a restaurant to be open late (which was not the case in winter...). The check-in was the fastest I ever had (I was just handed the key), the rooms was nicely - newly renovated, with a very comfy bed. The nicest surprise was the breakfast: Unlike most French hotel breakfasts, it had several kinds of bread and croissant, cold cuts and cheese, many jams (artisanal!), cereals and fresh fruit. The gentleman at the reception also helped us with breakfast (it was buffet style, but he brought the coffee because the coffee machine was not working properly) and was very nice - we also had a nice talk about the latest renovation and why the hotel got a new name (it was Hotel de la Poste before, but the post office moved away).

Dear Madame,

Despite the delay in response we would like to thank you for you comment that we have shared with all our team.
Thank you so much for your compliments regarding our breakfast.
Indeed, we do may extra attention regarding it's quality and amounts.
We are in business with la Maison Curtelin which makes local jams and marmelades ( fig, sour orange, Corsica Clementine etc. ) & this summer we will present new jam products of La Maison Milliat which is reknown for their excellent reputation.
All other products enable our guests to have an excellent breakfast, which is the most important meal to start the day.
Thank you once again,

Best Regards,

We came to the Hotellerie de la Poste on the first day after its renovation. The entire lobby, restaurant and bar is brandnew, and it really is great! You would expect on the first day it's still a bit messy, but not at all: staff super nice, good service, all in place....renovation a full success! The hotel is anyway unbeatable because of its central location (2 mins to city center, 5 mins to city beach). Note that the hotel is renamed to Hotel Matisse. Nice is also the 48 hour free parking just 2 mins away. Prices are ok. Service and staff really great, three languages (french, german, english) no problem. Highly recommendable.

Room Tip: Take a room that faces the courtyard/pool, not the street.

Dear Sir,

We are sorry for the delay in response but first and foremost, we would like to thank you for your very kind comments regarding our Hotel's new design and our team.
Thank you for your compliments as if are location is a real asset, welcoming our guests is essential for us.
For your information, the Parking du Centre is free of cost from the 01st of Octobre until the 31st of March, 2014 but is an additional charge in summer.
Our guests can book upon resquest parking badges which give them access to the parking lot at the daily rate of 13 Euros per day which is a fairly lower price than the public price.
As summer is arriving we have ordered a new terrasse for our guests to be able to have breakfast near the pool, this will be ready .. by next week !
Thank you once again for your comment,

Best Regards,

Didier PETIT

Small friendly hotel in a great location in the town centre, secure parking is nearby. Staff are very good and the breakfast is very good, The Pool is small and there is limited sun deck area, however few guests used it during our stay. Would use as a base in the future, Grimald and St Tropez worth visiting

Room Tip: Higher and end facing sea, no great views from any room

We were finding it difficult to book a couple of rooms for a couple of nights in high season in Sainté Maxime, but managed to find a Junior Suite for my wife and I and a Harmony Room for our two grown up daughters. They were both located on the same floor and it suited our needs, so we booked in advance and secured the rooms. After a week in other parts of Europe and having driven down from Italy into France, it was frustrating to find that our sat-nav continually guided us to the local Post Office as opposed to the Hotellerie De La Poste. A quick phone call to the hotel put us straight though and we soon found it. There is a car park opposite, but we had booked discounted underground car parking (additional cost) for hotel guests at a recommended nearby car park. A friendly receptionist welcomed us, but we were not immediately impressed with the décor in our rooms. Dark brown chocolate coloured walls are not the most inviting!

The junior suite turned out to be an end of a corridor room, with a box room to one side that had a small sofa that faced onto a blank wall about a metre or so in front of it. The window in that room would have overlooked the swimming pool, but it was actually filled in with opaque square glass cubes that allowed light in, but no opening facility and no outside view whatsoever. The main windows of both of our rooms overlooked a side alley and it was immediately clear why these rooms were still available when we booked.

Disappointed after our positive experiences from our travels so far in Europe that month, we nevertheless were able to get a good night’s sleep. There was no perceivable outside noise and the hotel was quiet inside too. Complimentary dressing gowns were on a shelf and the shower over the bath was hot and powerful.
We looked at the continental breakfast in the small dining area by the reception in the morning and it looked ok, but as we were centrally located, we decided against it and instead savoured some local freshly-baked croissants and orange juice from a local bakery whilst sitting by the edge of a cool fountain in a small side street nearby. (This was certainly cheaper than the €11 each for the Hotel breakfast)

The pool was small and enclosed with a complicated gate arrangement for access and a mandatory foot dip to go through to gain access. There appeared to be enough sun loungers and chairs for the guests using it though and towels were available at reception when requested.
Wi-Fi is available, but only through a ticket voucher scheme and one per room only that cannot be used on more than one phone, i-pad or laptop per room. Additionally, you have to get a new ticket for each day and it expires at midnight. Quite frustrating really, when it cost us €840 for two rooms for two nights only (breakfast and parking extra) and most couples these days have individual internet capable phones.
Suffice to say, this was our one and only visit to the Hotellerie De La Poste. We liked the location and the friendly staff. The boat trip across the bay the next day with breakfast in St Tropez was very enjoyable, but if we return to Sainté Maxime, we will certainly book ahead a lot further in advance and be more selective.

Room Tip: Insist on a room with a view, the alleyway walls are not enthralling.

Dear Sir,

We have just received your comment on TripAdvisor and although we are disappointed by reading this we would like to answer you right away as some negative comments seem unfounded to us :

The Post Office has moved away in February this year, our hotel has always had the same name since the 1950's and our address has remained unchanged ever since.
The underground parking lot for which you have payed the special price of 12.50 Euros is cheaper than the parking located in front of the hotel which would have charged you the amount pf 31 Euros if you have parked there !
The color of the walls of the Junior Suite you have booked via Booking is exactly the same Junior Suite you have booked (represented by it's photo on Booking.com).
You compare our Continental buffet breakfast at the daily rate of 11 Euros (which you have prefered not taking) with a simple breakfast composed of orange juice and croissants taken at a bakery. Unsurprisingly, the prices of two different services and products will never be the same.
The access to our pool with foot-dip are mandatory according to french laws (and the security of the pool gate is required so no child will gain access to it alone...).

This being said, your comments are important for us and we are rather upset that you have not enjoyed our hotel. As for the Wifi, we think that you have been given 1 day tickets instead of tickets valid for 1 week, knowing that we always give two tickets per room, we do apologize for this matter.

Of course we would like to welcome you again as you seemed to have appreciated after all our staff and our location.

We have very good news as we are going to change the name of our Hotel. T
he first of January 2014, our new name will be "Matisse Hotel ". In the first place, we will redecorate and change the main lobby as well as the terrasse and replace our room lightings.

In case of a futur stay at our Hotel, please advise us in advance that you will be coming. We will manage to propose you rooms with other colors that suits you most... & will offer you breakfast :-).

Hoping you will change your mind and that you will become like many other of our guests : faithful guests to our Hotel.

Best Regards,

Didier PETIT
