An absolutely charming medieval walled village close to Vence and St. Paul de Vence. A must see for lovers of Provence, as it is off the beaten track and away from tourist hoards. A great way to spend the day for those in the area of Antibes, Cannes or Grasse. Charming cobbled streets, little cafes, eateries, boutiques and patisserie line this delightful village, known for its cultivation of violets. A charming little marketing is held each Wednesday selling local produce and goods. breathtaking views of the Loup river outside the medieval walls.

The small medieval village situated on a rocky buttress ,overhanging precipices is quite calm and less populated with art and craft cultured people exhibiting their skills in small shops for purchase to the visitors. We had been to Nice during August 2013 and we intend to visit hilly villages nearby and the tour was arranged for 5hrs by car by French Riviera services at Nice for 60 Euros per person to tour Saint Paul de Vence, Tourrette Sur Loup, Gourdon and Grasse and return to Nice. We hand a nice trip covering the beautiful hilly ranges of French Riviera and the old villages of art, musicians, painters, writers and poets, A great lovely experience. The old architects and the narrow lanes and the houses sideby exhibits the art and poetic nature. The violet flowers all around are a grand show of colours.

Lovely walled village with lots of life, but not overtouristy: still has boucherie and 2 boulangeries etc. A great place to stay (and visit)

Have been to Tourettes almost a dozen times, the village itself is similar to many other beautiful medieval villages found in France, there's small speciality souvenir shops, boulangeries and French cuisine restaurants, etc ..but what makes Tourettes special is the people you meet. We were invited to the wine bar on a Friday night and met many friendly expat professionals who live in Tourettes and were happy to introduce us to other locals. Be sure to walk through the village and spot the panoramic look out for good views of the French Riviera. I would probably suggest spending a couple of hours there, as afterwards there isn't much else to do in Tourettes once you've explored the village.

During our stay in the Nice area, my husband and I devoted a day to seeing local hill towns. We had visited two hill towns in Tuscany last year, and were curious how the Provence town would compare. We were not disappointed, and Tourettes-sur-Loup was our favorite. We visited in the second week of October so, unfortunately, a lot of the shops and restaurants were closed. But, that actually made for a more enjoyable couple of hours. The streets were not packed with tourists. I suspect most of the people there were residents or locals. The atmosphere inside the town was perfect, almost like roaming a movie set created to depict the perfect medieval village. A few people were sitting at cafes sipping coffee. We ran into several cats who clearly lived in the village and enjoyed a protected environment where they could wander the streets. There is an opening through the wall that allows you to sit outside and look out over the countryside. From this point, is it also possible to turn around a look back to the walls of the city.We took some great photos during out stay. I'm not sure what the city would be like during the busy tourist season, but on a beautiful October day it was a delightful place to be.
