After good reviews here and in Michelin, this was promising. We are there tonight and the place was almost empty, no locals, just tourists as far as I could tell, maybe 5 couples. Meal very disappointing - first course just about OK, but mains very disappointing - strange tasting veal and sad loup de mer (sea bass) in bouillabaise. One very poor desert - doughy cold slice from a stack of crepes (not described as gateau de...) with absent fillings / flavor and just so gratin de poire with absent almonds. They can obviously do better, but should have closed rather than serve food like that while they sort out whatever was wrong

We enjoyed our meal with friends. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was plentiful and tasty and a good choice of menu. One of our party of four complained that the quality of meat was not good enough! However that might have been a poor choice.

The front of house is efficient , if later in the week book in advance its outside the city wall but only by a few minutes walk,

The decor is light , cheerful and upbeat in a very old building.

A young waiting team with lots of enthusiasm but strangely too fast by Frech standards , slow them down and you will be OK,

Drink: Worth coming early for the aperitifs , the main wine list is wide ranging but go local and you cannot go wrong. Also some good digestifs.

The food is excellent with local items and some good fish / shellfish items. The sauces are light and modern with real pride in presentation.

Worth putting on smart clothes , it is informal but chic .Good value for money

Best of the 3 restaurants in Vence we visited. 100% NON-tourist trap restaurant.
Very fine service - really good food.
For non- french speaking the staff spoke fine English - seem they even had menus in English.
Prices the normal for central Vence (30-40€ menus - some dishes carry an extra).
Restaurant is only 20 m outside old Vence.

The restaurant has a "bip gourmand" (a Michelin "pre star"). For those used to the Michelin system from OUTSIDE France (and Spain) one must remember that French restaurants gets bip-g and starts easier than in NEurope. How fine this restaurant was, it was not close to Michelin quality - but prices were also very modest.

This restaurant is just outside the historical centre of the Vence. It is quite formal. We were greeted by the lady patron. The restaurant is decorated in a light cream colour which gave it a rather cool feel. As there was only the patron taking orders and serving, service was rather slow to start with but picked up as the evening progressed. There are two menus but you can swap between the two. The food was good. The amuse gueules were delicious. We both had fish for main courses and they were both perfectly cooked and substantial. There was a good wine list from which we were able to choose an excellent local white wine for around €20. Deserts were truly excellent though quite rich.
