“Most relaxing holiday ever”

We arrived by train from the UK so tired, hot and a bit frazzled. Day one at the apartment changed all of that, it was extremely well equipped and the terrace cannot be adequately described in a review. I wouldn't say I'd recommend to young family unless you never took your eyes off them, but for adults, the view was breathtaking and the apartment stunning and tastefully decorated. Villefranche is beautiful, lots of places to eat and/or drink but we made the most of local markets and cooked in to enjoy the apartment. Local produce is excellent quality. It is also a fantastic location for visiting other locations, Monaco, Nice etc, all easily reached by an excellent train service. But beware of pick pockets on trains, there are warning signs and they do tend to prey on people arriving with luggage so local trips are easier without lots of bags. If like us you arrive with suitcases by train, BEWARE. I would return to Villefranche and this apartment. We miss it already.

“Exceptional property”

The Loft is the prefect combination of position, amenity and price.
The owner and the on site manager were delightful to deal with.
The apartment is very large and attractively furnished and has magnificent sweeping views from the deck accross the bay to SJCF and out to sea - punctuated only by the frequent large cruise ships moored off Villefranche. It is perfectly situated, above an atmospheric bar, close to shops (including a small supermarket), and many good restaurants which are accessed from the back along an historic alley, or from the front at the water's edge.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 nights there and can't wait to reurn.

“Beautiful apartment in a stunning town”
Reviewed 3 April 2013 for a stay in March 2013

We went there in the latter half of March with our three young children (youngest was 2). The apartment is on the 5th floor with a large terrace. The apartment is furnished very nicely with 2 bedrooms. A master bedroom connected to a bathroom and shower and a second room with two twin beds and nearby bathroom and shower. The kitchen is in the living area. The entire apartment has contemporary tasteful design. The local agent was very thoughtful and helpful and we enjoyed working with her.

The limitations we found were that the apartment does not have a dryer (even though the listing had washer/dryer), especially that it was raining and it wasn't easy drying clothes on the terrace. Also, parking was a challenge and not guaranteed (also contrary to the listing), as the restaurant below the building used to utilize all the parking spaces until close to midnight. Parking in the town is free but a distance from the building and towing is a common place in such high touristic area, so we had to either stay up late to move the car or wake up very early to do so, which was unpleasant and not what we expected based on the advertisement. Finally, the owner charged us the full Paypal fees for the transaction out of our security deposit and we anticipate that she will charge us the wiring back of the remainder of the security deposit.

The town itself is beautiful and the location of the apartment is perfect and on the waterfront. Overall, lovely apartment in a great location, very pleasant agent but the customer service aspect is offset by inaccurate advertisement about dryer/parking and unexpected financial fees imposed in the end by the owner and not discussed or agreed upon contractually. Of note, the fees were trivial compared to the rent we paid, so to spoil a customer's experience for that did not reflect the best of judgments or customer service skill.

Management Response
9 Apr 2013
We welcome all our guest feedback and take it seriously. However we do not advertise a dryer in our listing, and we are at pains to point out that private parking directly outside the loft is on a first-come-first served basis. There are usually alternative spaces nearby, and in the arrival information there is a page devoted to details of parking options. In addition we rarely give rental discounts but in the case of this guest we did offer a discount as it was a late booking and outside the main season. On top of that we did not charge anything at all for her three children. PayPal is a means of payment recommended by Holiday Lettings, but we also suggest payment via international bank transfers if clients are outside the UK as this route is cheaper. We always confirm the sterling amount that has been received and if there have been any transfer charges. Our booking form clearly states we will deduct any transfer fees from the security deposit. We advertise in sterling and cannot carry the cost of currency exchange. We have been letting our apartment for the past five years via the same website, and to date we have never had anyone else misunderstand this. We do however include all electric, linen and towels, end of stay cleaning and Wifi. We always offer payment of the security deposit by cash on arrival to save bank transfer fees between countries at the end. However, this guest paid her security deposit with the rental in one go via PayPal, and contrary to her supposition we paid the UK bank fees to return the security deposit to her immediately after her departure.

“Wow factor!”
Reviewed 13 August 2012 for a stay in August 2012

Beautiful large apartment and amazing location with stunning views. The apartment itself was immaculate and had everything needed for a perfect break. From initial enquiry to returning home we cannot fault the level of service and prompt communication we received.

The large sunny terrace was our favourite area of the apartment. There was a large choice of furniture to sit on to admire the breath-taking view. My second favourite area was the kitchen where I enjoyed putting together lovely meals and snacks using the fantastically fresh ingredients we bought each morning. On arrival we were provided with a comprehensive folder filled with information about the area, transport, recommendations for restaurants etc. There was also a wide range of guidebooks etc. so that we could plan things to do. The complimentary bottle of wine was a nice touch, as was the store cupboard ingredients left by others including oil, herbs & spices. There was coffee, tea, sugar and dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and washing powder. Food bags, cling film, tin foil as well as a cool bag and ice blocks were available too which kept our drinks cool on the beach.

The Wi-Fi was excellent and we took our SKY card with us to receive additional channels on the TV (our 9 year old appreciated this in the heat of the day!) We were given contact details for Molly (the contact in France) and Kate (the owner) so that we could call them if we needed anything - nothing was too much trouble. Molly emailed a few times during our stay with links to websites of places we could visit and restaurant recommendations.

The only negative we had during our entire stay was parking. I had read that parking would be very difficult at this time of year but decided to go ahead and hire a car anyway for convenience. The transfer between terminals, the wait for car hire at the airport and then finding somewhere to park in Villefranche was quite stressful and in hindsight we shouldn’t have bothered with the car! After over 90 minutes of driving around Villefranche trying to find a space, we decided that it wasn’t worth the hassle and left the car parked up for the week. The transport system is so simple and reliable that we used the bus and train to get around. I would really not recommend having a car here in August as you don’t really need it and it isn’t worth the stress of parking.

We have never done this sort of holiday before and I was concerned that we wouldn’t have enough to do with a 9 year old (hence the hire car). However, it was absolutely perfect and we enjoyed using the beach (with the inflatables provided at the apartment) and wandering around the town, as well as getting the bus/train to Cannes, Nice etc.

We would recommend this property 100% and didn’t want to leave. It really had the 'Wow' factor and I have no idea how we will beat this on subsequent holidays.
