We've spent 30 years of summers in the South of France. In the '80's our love of the place meant that we slept at campsites and ate at fine restaurants, in the '90s we had kids so we stayed at self catering villas and apartments. However, Villefranche and the sight of the salmon pink Hotel Welcome against an azure sky as you pull out of the last hairpin bend into the village has made us think for 30 years "we must stay there sometime'.

In April 2013 it was our 25th anniversary and we we finally did. We'd booked the cabin suite. It was everything we hoped for.

Villefranche is the perfect Cote d'Azur. None of the vulgarities of Cannes or Monaco, it's far more tasteful and subtle.

We loved the Welcome so much that we've booked the cabin suite again for my 50th in 2014.

OK, the loo in the Cabin Suite is small but with two completely private balconies and other comforts then we can happily live with that.

We know Provence and the Cote d'Azur like home. This is our favourite hotel there.

Villefranche is a charming little town with great walks food and proximity to the French Riviera. Just watch Bedtime Story with David Niven and Marlon Brando later rebranded as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Steve Martin and Michael Caine! The Hotel Welcome, being on the water captures all this magic and itself was featured in one of the James Bond movies, I understand.

Comfortable rooms, friendly staff created a great atmosphere for our stay. Can't wait to return to this little gem!

The location of Hotel Welcome is fantastic, right by the Mediterranean in the heart of Villefranche sur Mer. We had two rooms for four travellers: the rooms both had great sea views and were nicely appointed. They were very small by North American standards...but we weren't in North America! The staff were all extremely courteous and helpful and we enjoyed walking along the waterfront, poking in the little shops, and eating in the outdoor restaurants which were all within easy walking distance.
The rates were on the high side ubut worth it. I would gladly return to this charming hotel.

The front desk could not have been more friendly and helpful. The location could not have been better. You could see everything going on in the harbor and walk up to the trains in about 10 mins and head to next small towns for day trips to Villa Rothschild and up to Monte Carlo. Walked into our room and immediately out onto balcony with breathtaking view. Room was small, but comfortable with artsy decor. Bathroom was outdated and well used but efficient. They had a very small nice bar attached to the hotel on the waterfront. This hotel was right in the center of a lively small waterside community and we would not hesitate to stay there again.

Hotel Welcome certainly lived up to it's name. Excellent and effortless check in with delightful staff - helpful, friendly and professional. Charming little (very!) room with fabulous view over the sea front. Extremely comfortable bed but rather noisy air con with no instructions for regulation. Bathroom very simple but for the price we would have expected the sealant and grouting to be in better shape and rather more toiletries. Only minor gripes however and would love to revisit if only for the feel of bygone splendour and understated luxury, as well as little touches such as Cocteau style decoration on the lift.
