“Worst ever experience at an Ibis”
Reviewed 21 September 2011

Have stayed in many (approximately 40) Ibis Hotels in the past but this was definitely not of the usual standard. The toilet pan was cracked and had been for some time, the light in the bathroom mirror was not working, the whole hotel had a "shabby" feel about it - well in need of modernisation. Whilst sitting in the outside dining area for breakfast, the previous night's food was still on the floor, and there were rats in the garden area outside - not a visit which will be repeated!

Dinner in the restaurant was poor. It was 45 minutes before we were given our menu and service was very slow. A German couple nearby were also kept waiting a long time for their meal and when it came it was the wrong order. No replacement meals appeared and the couple walked out without eating. The restaurant was full and the number of staff totally inadequate for a busy time.
There was a dry black ink stain found on a bedsheet in the morning (it was deep inside the covers and so not seen the night before). The receptionist was informed at check out and she did not know what to do, claiming the room had been signed off as checked.

We booked this a day in advance as we drove to Orange from the south. It was easy to find, from the centre of town, just follow the signs to the A7/A9 interchange. The hotel is on the same road as the railway station, just further out of town. We chose the hotel because of positive reviews here and because of free parking.

The staff was friendly and helpful. And though the rooms were basic and small, the beds were very comfortable and we had an excellent night's sleep.

It's a fair walk from the center of town (15-20 min), which we enjoyed. There is free wireless internet. Breakfast was €7.50.

We booked through Expedia, but the price at the hotel had we just turned up would have been the same, €72/night. There are a few more hotels (Etap and B&B) just around the corner from Ibis that advertised cheaper rates on their signs (€40 to €50). So we would have done better by turning up and shopping around.

I stayed here with my wife for a week in April 2010. The location of the hotel could not be better within about 200metres of the main A7 peage. After the 650 mile drive from Calais it is ideal. it is also within half a mile of the Roman Theatre. The dining room in the hotel, with its 'outdoor area' is superb., and overlooks the small pool. it is an Ibis and so is highly predictable in terms of facilities but that is no problem if you know what to expect. The room we had, on the ground floor was a little small but I suspect that as this was a 'smoker' it is not necessarily typical as walking through in the mornings there were other rooms we could see into which looked a little larger and better laid out. The staff were excellent and remember to ask for the wifi code - as there is free wifi available through Orange. the theatre is a not to be missed attraction.

Stayed here for one night, was booked by our tour group.

A few general things about European hotels I've learned on my travels:
- all tend to be small
- don't pull the cord in the shower, it supposedly signals an alarm to the front desk for help
- walls are thin
- I still don't know how to use that other bowl shaped sink-faucet thing next to the toilet

The inside of the hotel lobby and dining area was well presented and clean. The hotel room was clean and ok size. No real complaints with the room, it was interesting that they don't have bars of soap or little shampoo bottles, instead they have large bottles attached to the wall for soap and shampoo.
The food was surprisingly good for dinner and breakfast. The dinner was flavorful and had a rich chocolate cake. The breakfast had a bit of fruits and pastries that were good.

The staff was fine and nice, we didn't really interact with them.

The location was just a stopover, not for sightseeing, so we weren't concerned with location.

Overall, it was a nice surprise of a hotel in the middle of nowhere.
