“Super location, good price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 February 2013

This hotel is perfectly located right in the center, close to the theatre. The room we had was basic without charm, small but clean. The view was against the backyard, but we didn't spend too much time in the room, so we didn't bother about that. There is no parking immediately outside the hotel, but was available for free in a garage some blocks away. We didn't take breakfast, instead we went out to look for a place in the town, which was actually quite difficult to find. This hotel is a good choice if you just need a clean bed and a bathroom, at a very good price (prebooked through one of the booking sites)

Room Tip: Prebook parking if possible, available spaces seemed to be limited

We had booked for an overnight stay after a drive from Beziers. My partner was unwell on the drive and we got to Orange about 1.30pm. Firstly, "the sign" for the Hotel opposite the ampitheatre directs you wrongly into a narrow one-way street. If you are lucky, you get the 50m to the Hotel; we were not and had to reverse, dodging the bollards, and find somewhere to park. Secondly, when I walked to the Hotel and told the receptionist (owner) of my partner's discomfort and needing to rest, she was firm - no access for a further 120 minutes. So that's the rule and don't be unlucky.

My partner became well enough to visit the Roman Theatre and Museum. On those scores, Orange is well worth the visit. Other reviewers have well covered the Hotel; we did like it and a pity we were unlucky! (When it's raining it seems a long way from Hotel to carpark.)

Lastly a suggestion for TripAdvisor - reprogram your software to accept the inverted coma. The name is Hotel L'Herbier d'Orange - with inverted comas. LP gets it right; why cannot you?

This hotel is right in the middle of everything, in the middle of a pedestrian area, seconds away from the ampitheater and amidst all kinds of restaurants and shops. Hotel is clean, tho room a little awkward, and rates reasonable. Very good choice. Breakfast was pricey but you have loads of options right out the door. (We did patisserie take-out most mornings..) Parking is in a garage 2 blocks away, and you have to use a passcard. Not a problem for us, but it is an inconvenience.

The hotel is run by a couple and located right in the heart of this small village. The most famous monument, the ampitheatre, is a short 30-second walk away. The hotel is also just around the corner from a host of eateries and cafes.

Parking is available free of charge, though the car park is about a 5 minute walk away.

The hotel does not have a lift, so if you don't feel like lugging bags up and down stairs then best to request a room lower down.

Breakfast is available for a charge but is worth it if you like fresh made-to-order crepes. There are both sweet and savoury options available.

The owners / management are very friendly and welcoming, and service is extremely efficient.

The hosts were friendly, helpful and enthusiastic, treating us like friends.

The room was plain, but not poky, at the top-end of the no-frills spectrum, perfectly clean and comfortable, and the double glazing shut out the street noise. The shower worked well and the wifi worked perfectly.

Breakfast was excellent, best we've had in France over quite a number of trips. There is no parking at the hotel, but they have an arrangement whereby you can park in a local underground car park for a very reasonable rate.

We stumbled across L'Herbier a number of years ago now, and now make a point of stopping off in Orange each year as we head to Catalonia. L'Herbier is set at the centre of everything you need for a very pleasant evening in a French town, with lovely local restaurants and just enough going on not to be sleepy, but not so much that you are disturbed. The hotel is always spotless and the proprietors very welcoming. I travel with 4 children now aged from 3 to 18 and each and every one of us is made to feel very welcome. Nearby is the Roman theatre - the only one left so intact in Europe - don't miss it, as well as the Arc de Triomphe erected by Julius Caeser.

Room Tip: Pedestrian area - no parking outside

Natalie and Jean Luc were very gracious hosts. Our room was plain but comfortable and super clean. The breakfast room was lovely and Jean Luc made wonderful warm crepes to order. Their renovations brought out the best in the building's old architecture. The location was convenient to all of the best in Orange, especially the Thursday market and the Roman theatre.
