This hotel is very close to Castelanne Metro station, 5-10 min walk depending on your pace. So, it's very convenient for your to travel by train and connect to Metro to reach the hotel. The room is fine. Phillipe one of the 2 owners was very kind to give me a 2-person bedroom type for one person with the one-person room rate. The room is clean and spacious. Phillipe cleaned the room and do everything by himself. So, it's a one-man-operated hotel indeed. He and William, his working partner work alternately--one week on-off shifs. So, each person does everything from Manager to janitor and maid. They must be some kind of "Superman". Even though the room is still clean and tidy. The only one point that I didn't like about this hotel was breakfast. There was no meat; i.e. hams, boiled eggs, sausages, in the breakfast. Only croisant, bread, jams, orange juice, coffee, hot cholate and some cho-- continental breakfast. This may be due to one-man-operated hotel. That's why the breakfast must be this way.

One thing, I was impressed by the hotel. It got many awards and plates. You can see from the front door of the hotel. Everything would be perfect, breakfast was taken out of the equation. If you don't mind about breakfast or you would have breakfast outside, this is the perfect hotel for you, I believe!

All in all, I enjoyed my stay with this hotel.

This hotel is small, maybe 13 rooms. It's on a very busy street in a nice part of town. There was a large street market on the Friday we were there that took the hotels 2 free parking spots so we paid for parking at a nice underground parking garage 18 euro. The hotel staff is very nice and helpful. Our room was on the top floor, it was large for European standards and the bathroom was large by American standards. This hotel is close enough to everything to walk. So we did not need our car until we left Marseille. We would stay here again.

I don't know how this hotel got to be #6 in Marseille...the previous reviewers must have different expectations thn we do of a 5 star hotel. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible...clean sheets, adequate bathroom and helpful staff. But carrying suitcases up four flights of stairs...not so good. They do have free wifi, but no air conditioning.

I've been really enjoying my "Europe trip". A friend of mine and myself decided to go to Marseille after Paris, we wanted to get a different taste of France before to visit Spain.
We again used tripadvisor to get a nice hotel, and we can't complain about what we chose.
It's a bit old fashioned and also a bit noisy, but we didn't spend so much time in the hotel. The owner was very friendly, he helped us to book a great restaurant (I love french food now).
There is one other thing, we booked a double room, but we asked the owner if he could change us this to a twin room, and he kindly changed this to us.
For this last thing I've been tempted to give 5 points, but to be fair with tripadvisor users, this hotel deserves 4.

We booked this hotel because of the "family friendly" reviews. We reserved the family room, which is a small studio with a queen bed and two single beds, a small table, a tiny TV, and a mini-fridge. The bathroom was huge. There was a lot of street noise all night. This is really more a B&B than a "hotel." It was fine for 1 night, but I'd have felt cramped any longer.

Pros:
The owner is a family man. Nice and spoke enough English for me.
The Vapiano restaurant across the street is amazing (see my review).
There is a "yard sale" type of market on Monday mornings right outside the hotel which was fun.
Felt like a generally safe area.

Cons:
Hotel is under renovation (February 2013) - noisy during the day.
Parking was a challenge but not too bad.
WiFi Internet access was spotty.
The beds are not very comfortable (but European beds rarely are).
No individual thermostat in the room.
A lot of lime buildup on the shower heads. In general, it seemed like it could have been a bit cleaner, though nothing was "dirty."

Stayed at the Lutia for a night en route to Italy and arrived late in the day. It's not a 24 hour, hotel chain kind of place but William, (the owner/manger?), waited for us and was friendly, courteous and helpful. The family room we had was old fashioned in a good way, large and comfortable, with a bathroom the size of Luxembourg. The location was great, with free parking, and the breakfast was filling and relaxed, (always a plus in a hotel).
If you want the Marriott then this probably isn't for you but if you value friendliness, quirkiness and large, relaxed rooms for your family then I would heartily recommend the Lutia

We stayed at Hotel Lutia for 3 nights and were pleasantly surprised with everything from the service to the rooms and the breakfast. It's just a few steps from the Metro which can take you anywhere all over the city if you don't have a car. We also walked to and from Notre Dame as well which isn't that bad of a walk.

The rooms were nice and we liked having a shower and sink in our room. Bathrooms being separated from the rooms is fairly common in Europe but it was nice to be able to shower and wash up in your own room. We liked having a room that faced the street, it's all part of the experience. The windows are super good quality so when you close them it shuts our nearly all of the street noise.

The breakfast was pretty basic but enough to get us going in the morning.

The price was more than fair and the service was top notch. Phillippe was a great host with lots of knowledge about the area and more than willing to share it. He was a great help to us while we there.

We would stay here again.
