Owner description: Marseille's old port, once a great commercial center for boats arriving from Africa, has recently experienced a dramatic revitalization as a destination for cruise ships.

“The heart, the lung, the spirit of the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

This is "the place" . Never forget this one is 26 CENTURIES old . This is where all started. Marseille was built from there, and naturally expanded up to its natural boundaries, the mountains . The Vieux Port is where it happens, where the crowd gather for any event to celebrate.
This is a MUST see.
Enjoy...

“You cannot miss it!”

Nice views, nice restaurants and cafés. A walk around and back by the ferry boat, an institution in Marseille. Also the place from where all the boats to the islands and the callanques go.

“It looks good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014

Nearly everything to see and do is either at the port, near the port or the transport to it leaves from the port. It is a nice area to walk around or to sit and eat or drink overlooking the harbour.
Our experience of the French restaurants stretched on the south side of the harbour was not good. We had good Italian food.

“Average tourist trap”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2014

Marseille was a disappointment. The old port has some charm for sure but mainly because of the old architecture that surrounds it. It is mainly restaurants, none particularly good for the looks of the menus. We ate in a couple of them and found them just average.
