While luckily the blockout curtains worked like a charm, waking up every morning and going to sleep with the magnificent view of the historic city center and the main cathedral on the opposite hill from the balcony on the 7th floor was great. Spacious and very clean room, professional and friendly staff. As it was very warm even in September, the air condition came in handy. From the balcony you can make out subway/bus stops (www.rtm.fr) as well as the hop on/hop off open deck bus (www.marseillelegrandtour.com/marseille-circuit.php) and the boats that will take you to Château d'If (www.frioul-if-express.com) or to other excursions along the coast (www.croisieres-marseille-calanques.com). Behind the hotel, 150m to a supermaket (SuperU in Grand Rue) and 3 excellent bakeries (also selling fabulous takeaway pizza slices). 1 km waterfront promenade to the new museums MUCEM and Villa Méditeranée. Taxi EUR 10 to railway station outside peak hour.

I booked this room for the price point and convenience, as we were only staying one night in Marseilles. What a great hotel! The rooms were huge, the balcony was amazing, the beds were super comfortable, and the staff couldn't have been better. All the amenities were there, from coffee and tea in the room, to complimentary water bottles, to free wifi, to Occitane soaps and shampoos. The view of the harbor and Saint Jean Cathedral on the hilltop is unforgettable. The only thing better was the helpful and friendly staff. Go. Stay here. Enjoy!

Room Tip: 7th floor with view of the port. Room 706 has an extra room/ bed.

The building is so unassuming, but as most reviewers have mentioned, the view is spectacular, and the staff are wonderful. Very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I booked the sky suite and would absolutely book the same room again if I return to Marseille. The view is incredible to wake up to every morning, and to enjoy in the evenings. The balcony is ever so quiet and private, and such a lovely place to come home to after a long day of touring (and eating!). 50's decor was funky and cool and the sky suite with sunken living room was huge. Huge bathroom with shower and tub. Extremely clean. I didn't take the breakfast, as there are so many cafes and places to grab a croissant. Everything was really wonderful at this hotel. I highly recommend it and would come back in a heartbeat (when I save up the $ for the sky suite!).

Room Tip: Almost all rooms have the gorgeous view of the port, so make sure you get one!

We had a club room which had a balcony and wonderful views over the harbour. The hotel was clean, smart and trendy. The staff were excellent nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The restaurant was excellent . My only gripe is that breakfast was expensive which I assume is why most people seemed to go out which wasnt a problem there are plenty of places very close.

Room Tip: all the rooms with balconys are good

Sounds a perfect place regarding accessability and comfort. It's just a bit expensive that should be normal for center of such a big city like Marseille. The reception is very nice in behaviour. The classic rooms are clean and quiet. The shower is a bit tough to deal with as there is no curtain to prevent water from pouring on the floor.

Almost everyone on Trip advisor mentioned the views from the bedrooms of the La Residence, and they are indeed fantastic. The hotel is very central, close to all sites and museums, as well as public transport. The bedrooms are of a reasonable size, for France, there is a lovely bathroom with superb toiletries, the staff is friendly and attentive, but the star here is the views from the bedrooms and balcony. It is wonderful to wake up in the morning, open the curtains and have the light flow in and watch the boats arriving and departing. People watching is also great.
We stayed for 4 nights on the 6th floor and I do recommend to pay extra for a club room and a room on the higher floors (we were on the 6th). The views are better and there is less noise, as there is a fair amount of traffic passing the hotel, from very early morning onwards.
Breakfast is good, but expensive. There are plenty of cafes around to have a coffee and a croissant, if on a budget.
We will certainly return to this hotel, as we love Marseille, and hope to stay again in La Residence.

The view from our 5th floor room over the harbour was just beautiful - the sort of thing that just brings a smile to your face every time you look out the window. The hotel itself is modern and well designed and the staff are great. My only gripe is that breakfast costs 18e - it was good, but I don't really want a lavish buffet at 9.30 am. But that's a minor point, and easily solved by going to a nearby cafe. Recommended.
