“Tidy”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

On arrival I asked the Concierge if he spoke English was given a rude " OF COURSE". Having been to other cities and hotels the staff will say they speak English but it is usually limited. This I accept this as I'm travelling in their country and will try my best with the little French knowledge I have.
Having stayed in 3 other Mercures on this holiday first appearance was good, we realised when checking in that we had been booked into a standard room, we upgraded to superior room with no problems other than a room not being ready. This gave us time to get some lunch & have a walk around Marseilles. Coming back for our room was another story the girl who was now on the desk barely spoke or understood English and was having trouble finding our booking.
We stayed 2 nights and we we got back to our room on the second afternoon we realised we didn't have any glasses to drink from. when we rang housekeeping we were informed that we only got disposable plastic cups on day of arrival and because we had throw them away the next morning we weren't getting anymore. Had to purchase some in the local monoprix.
Saying this accommodation was acceptable.

This hotel is in keeping with the Mercure chain - good-sized rooms, clean, superior service, full buffet breakfasts and, for the most part, reasonably priced. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the Old Port. Nearby to the north are some interesting old streets/alleyways, but after early evening you might want to think twice about going for a stroll. We saw several groups of men drinking early in the day and still there in the evening - and becoming belligerent as time went on. That was despite the presence of police walking about.

Room Tip: If you get a room higher up, you should hear less of the night noise that can be a little loud.

I stay a lot in the Mercure chain hotels both on business and on vacations with my wife. This Mercure hotel is typical of the standard the chain offers with good combination of quality accommodation, meals, location, service and price. Except for dubious surroundings, we have nothing to complain about.

The hotel is locating to a very dangerous location, that is the only negative. Is difficult to walk on night alone nearby to hotel. Generally the port of marseille is a dangerous place for tourists. The hotel is really renovating, very modern with spacious rooms. The cleaning would be better ( the towels was dirty). The hotel is locating nearby to the port. Excellent free wifi, one of the best i had ever met

Probably it was just a bad luck but everything went wrong: we hardly found it by car, had to drive still to another destination to park with the very unclear explanations from reception guys.
The location is the only positive aspect but even though - not the best district of Marseille: a lot of homless people (we saw one peeing just at the entrance), in the evening the area is very unsafe from our point of view.
Our room was smoked down.

We have stayed at this hotel several times in the past and we are never disappointed. This time we were there to meet friends from Australia who were in France for a meeting. It has been renovated over the last couple of years and is now finally finished. The rooms are bright, clean and cheerful. We had a lovely view of Notre Dame de la Gard - the cathedral at the top of the hill; also over the garden of the recently re-opened archeological museum. There is a shopping mall next door and it's a few minutes to the Old Port and all the attractions there. Next time we go to Marseille we will definitely use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views of Notre Dame de la Gard.

A lovely modern, hotel which seems recently refurbished with nice decor. Close to shops and few minutes walk from vieux port. Metro nearby but one can always walk and reach places of interest such as Notre Dame de la Garde if you fancy on uphill walk and some physical exercise! Train station, St Charles, nearby, you can even catch a glimpse of it if your room is located on the ninth floor.

The hotel offers a very good and ample buffet breakfast including hot and cold selection. Restaurant staff speak good english, same goes for reception staff.

Rooms very clean with a mini-fridge, safe, free wifi and TV with Ambilight.

The hotel also has a shuttle service from Marseille airport but if you arrive late at night you might have to take a taxi which costs between Euro 60.00 - 80.00 one way.

The only downside of the location is homeless people sleeping on the doorsteps of the World Trade Centre but they were no bother at all when we passed by during the night. If this bothers you take a right instead of a left when you go outside the hotel. The hotel also have security cameras outside which makes you feel safer.

Overall, a very good hotel, highly recommended. We had a lovely stay :-)

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floors facing St Charles Gare for a view of the skyline.

Dear Customer, Thank you very much for your comments, we are very well placed indeed to visit all the attractions offered by Marseille. I want to clarify that we do not have to shuttle to the airport, but there are airport to Saint Charles train station which is 1 metro station, or on a taxi shuttle. We are aware that the road is occupied for the homeless and do our best in partnership with the city of Marseille that all this is improving. See you soon with us.
Best regards.
