Located on a side street, this is a cosy, clean & friendly restaurant. I visited with my friend for lunch & we had a mezze-style menu, where we could chose a number of small dishes served on one plate . Delicious food. Beautifully presented. Great value. It's not in a touristy area - but it's still very central & most definitely worth a visit.

We went to grain de sable because of the great reviews here. We were very lucky to have lunch here, because normally you have to make a reservation as they don't want to trash food and therefore they exactly buy what they need for the lunch, to have no leftovers. But there were some great dishes left for us! Healthy, fresh, and super nice and dedicated owners.

We had lunch at the Grain de Sable and it was an amazing experience. The restaurant is near the Old Port. We arrived at 12.30 and it was almost full (it is always better to do a reservation) but we were lucky and they found a table for us. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is really kind (they speak English, translate the menu and help you in learning French!).
Most important, the food is fresh, healthy, tasty and well presented (the price is good, not more than 15 euro for each person, and you have the possibility to choose more than one thing).
We strongly recommend it.

We were planning our trip to Marseille and we found that restaurant between the most popular vegan and vegetarians. I contacted them by Facebook to do a booking and they answer me immediately in a perfect English.
Once we arrive, we found the place lovely and the staff charming. They were helping us a lot with the Menu.
The food is tasty and very well presented and the atmosphere is great.
Highly recommended If you're vegan, vegetarian or you're looking for some healthy and tasty food.

We tried to have lunch today at Grain of Sable. We arrived at 12.45 to be told there was no room (were were two people). We could see spare seats... staff then said there was not enough food for more people. Very frustrating because we had walked for 20 minutes to get there and eating out as a vegetarian in France is not easy. You would expect perhaps to book for an evening meal but lunch?? The restaurant is some way from most of the main sites visitors would want to visit so if you are going check first in advance there is room.

Dear Alina,
sorry that you feel frustrated, but we are a small restaurant, with only one chef and two waitresses. We made the choice of quality rather than quantity, so we cook fresh, every day, and when the food is over, we are not able to accept more clients, since we don't use any frozen food to feed them. Our kitchen, our pots, our fridges, our team are sized for 40-45 persons. Some days, we start the service fully booked yet, and we don't accept any "spontaneous" client (even if there is space at 12 or 12:30, as the clients can book between 12 up to 1pm). We know that they can feel frustrated, that's why it is specified in our website that "booking is recommended".
Should we deserve a very bad mark for that ? I'm not sure.
Have a nice stay in France and may 2016 be a great year for you.
Anne
