This hotel is alright but not nice enough that I would return there if I went back to Marseilles. Its about a 10 minute walk to the main harbor, and an equal distance from the very colorful Cour Julien neighborhood. The hotel is just 5 minutes from a convenient metro to the main train station, which has frequent bus ('navette') connections to the airport.

Although the location is not bad, its on a fairly noisy street and it was impossible to sleep with the window open. My greater disappointment however was with the room - given the hotel branding and very cool decor in the lobby I was expecting a unique room. I'm sorry but sticking a Michael Jackson painting on the wall does not make it a 'music hotel' the room was otherwise very plain, stained carpeting and Ikea quality furnishings. When leaving the room across the hall was empty and open so I peeking there too, same story - a few rock and roll posters on the wall but otherwise quite ordinary.

The bathroom puzzled me - it actually had the nicest decor in the room with elegant tiling and a nice sink and vanity, however there was no shower curtain or way to prevent a flood in the bathroom even if you were careful while showering. Surely with the money they invested in the bathroom remodeling they could have considered a shower curtain?

On the plus side, the person working the desk was friendly, spoke good English and gave me some nice tips. And the room rate was fair for a big city, its much less than the overpriced hotels that surround the harbor. But as an overall experience I really could not say if I would return.

I chose this hotel on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews, particularly those that mentioned the quality of sleeping, and I was not disappointed. The floors and walls are solid, the windows double-paned, and the garden in the back masks any nearby traffic. (Ask for a garden room, which I believe are also the less expensive ones.) The hotel staff is friendly if sometimes a bit distracted: one day they forgot to make up the room, another day they took away the soap bar without replacing it. But these are details. The decor is pleasing minimalist. And the location is excellent: not far from the Vieux Port and the Canabiere, and near the excellent restaurants along rue Sainte and the south side of the Vieux Port.

Positives: Hotel is centrally located and close to everything, so that was very convenient. Nice staff. Had free wifi (but have to ask for password every day at the reception). Big bathroom.
Negatives: Old. Dirty floors, carpets in the bedroom with not a singe clean spot on them. Safe in the closet not attached. No curtain in the bathtub, so when showering, water splashes everywhere (no matter how careful you are). Noisy, all the "regular" rooms are facing a busy road with heavy traffic and pretty much had to have a fan or AC on full all the time. Asked for a quiet room both while booking and in the hotel, reception staff said that there is nothing available (even though the hotel was pretty much empty).
Also the reception was empty a few times and had to wait for a while for the staff to come back (from somewhere else, either inside or out of the hotel), it isn't possible to go in or out without someone buzzing the front door, so it is an inconvenience.

Spent one night here while visiting Marseilles for the weekend and paid a very good rate (60 euros). The positives- large bedroom & bathroom, great location, very friendly & helpful staff. The downsides- although the name & professional pictures of the hotel gave the impression of somewhere quite kooky & individual it is actually quite a standard 3/4 star hotel. The only 'musical' thing about this hotel are some records on the wall, not once did we hear any music during our stay. Additionally, as other reviewers have mentioned, the bedrooms are pleasant but frightfully dull compared to the character and colourful reception & dining room. We stayed on a Saturday night & there was no atmosphere at all, I don't think we saw a single other guest the entire time! Another inconvenience was that at around 8.30 am on the Sunday the maid let herself into our bedroom while we were still asleep and undressed in bed.
Overall would recommend for a good price & city break in Marseilles, but was slightly disappointed by the bedroom decor & general ambiance.

Some staggering lack of professionalism by the staff:

On my first night, I walked towards the stairs on my way upstairs and caught sight of the door to the WC located off the dining room. The door was slightly open and, inside, the night staff member was pulling up his underwear, presumably after having gone to the loo with the door open.

On my second night, again walking to the stairs, I could see a young woman lying across a table groaning - her partner (the cause of the groaning) was the night staff member - not the same as the one of the first night. I pity the person who was eating their breakfast at that table the following morning. Thankfully, I didn't have breakfast at the hotel - it looked quite pitiful for a country that gives us wonderful pastries, coffee and charcuterie.

On a subsequent night, the same woman and night staff member were lounging around the dining room and front hall. There is simply no way guests could feel comfortable using these spaces in late evening. I know of no other hotel where staff take over the guest reception areas.

The night staff members' frequent absence from the front desk means one has to wait in the cold outside while they come and open the door.

The dining room has a television on regularly. Some pleasant French music might be better.

It would be nice if the male daytime staff member would not smoke outside the door. It is, in my view, very unprofessional; and not pleasant to have to walk through a cloud of second-hand smoke on the way in.

The post-checkout charges on my credit card could have been accompanied with an email to explain what they were for, and a receipt provided. None - lack of courtesy.

The location is excellent and the bedroom was a delight. Fire the three above-mentioned staff, improve the breakfast, dump the television, implement a more customer-informative payment process and there are the makings of a wonderful hotel.

I spent 5 days for business. It was one of the most pleasant hotels I visited lately in Europe. Clean, big rooms, very convenient locations, less than 5 minutes walk from the Metro and walking distance from the port. I highly recommend it!
