“Excellent little hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2012

Very good hotel.

The hotel is located in a quiet street, off Av de Prado which is a busy arterial road, at the corner of Cassis and Rue de Rouet. In case you get confused, Rue Vandel mentioned in the address is not visible in Google Maps - it is nothing but the extension of Rue de Cassis. A 2 min walk will get you to the Pèrier Metro station - direct metro line to the St Charles train station and airport bus. There are several restaurants and shops on Av de Prado and Rue Louise Rège. Closest supermarket is on Rue Louise Rege. The boulangerie at the corner of Rue de Rouet and Rue Louise Rège was excellent, with good coffee, and might be a cheaper option to the breakfast provided by the hotel.

The staff was courteous, friendly and helpful. They give undivided attention to the guest they are dealing with: which can be a good thing if you are that guest, else you may have to wait. Our check in took a longer than expected, as they were helping another guest with bus routes and tourist information. There was a slight goof-up in that they assigned us to a room which wasn't a double though we'd booked one. By the time we checked in, the doubles were all but gone. The staff was apologetic and helpful - we were given options like an Italian double and a double room on the ground floor. The twin room wasn't bad so we retained it.

They take security serious here: the main door to the hotel, the lift and the room are all access controlled. Only staff and guests can get in. The reception area is small but there is a business room that has more seating and provides internet and computer access.

The twin room was great value for what we paid. It included a kitchenette with a full set of utensils, a refrigerator, a safe and free WiFi. Beds are comfortable. TV with dozens of channels - the only English one was BBC World.

The bathroom is spacious. My only complaint was with the shower not having a place for soaps and shampoos - you have to use the floor. This seems standard across many European hotels and B&Bs. Nice complimentary herbal soaps and shampoos.

I highly recommend Seven Urban Suites.

Room Tip: The hotel is just of the street corner; though its a relatively quiet street, you may get some stree...

Having never visited Marseille before we based our decision to stay at Seven Urban Suites on the positive reviews we had read on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed!

Firstly, the hotel is in an excellent location to explore the city; it is a 5 minute walk from the ‘Périer’ metro and only 4 stops from ‘Gare Saint-Charles’ which is the main SNCF train station and the bus depot for the airport shuttle bus. Furthermore, ‘Périer’ is 3 stops to the ‘Vieux Port’ (you have to change lines at ‘Castellane’: see www.rtm.fr for local transport information), which is bustling with shops, cafés and restaurants. We didn’t spend a great deal of time in the area around the hotel but as two females walking around we never felt uncomfortable or threatened. There is a ‘Carrefour City’ just around the corner (similar to a Tesco Metro or Sainsbury’s Local), which is open until 10pm and also a boulangerie/patisserie approximately 2 minutes walk away.

On arrival, we were offered a warm welcome and even though we were two hours early for the official 2pm check-in, we were told that our room was ready. The receptionist was extremely pleasant and efficient; she handed us our key, gave us a map and brochure of Marseille and assured us that if there was anything else we needed, we only had to ask. Throughout our stay we found the staff to be very friendly and always on hand to help. For example, the first evening we requested two extra pillows and these were swiftly delivered to our room. In addition, it is reassuring to know that the hotel is secure – the reception is manned 24/7 and there are card touch pads to gain access to the main entrance, to the lift and stairs as well as to the room.

To the side of the reception is ‘The Business Room’, which is equipped with two MAC computers and a printer, which guests can use free of charge. There is also a large wall-mounted TV showing the French 24 news channel, a complimentary Nespresso coffee machine and a daily selection of newspapers.

In terms of our room, it was immaculately clean and everything was new and contemporary. The kitchenette was well equipped with: fridge, two electric hotplates, microwave, pot, strainer, frying pan, plates, bowels, glasses, tea cups, cutlery, bread knife, salad servers and a tea towel. We cooked in the room both evenings without any issues. The hotel does offer an organic breakfast for 12€ per person but we bought cereal and ate in the room so therefore cannot comment on the ‘petit déjeuner.’

There was also a very large bathroom with a lovely shower and hair dryer. We were given plenty of fresh towels and provided with mini toiletries (soap, shower gel and shampoo) and slippers. The room was cleaned daily and the towels and toiletries were replaced.

A couple of the reviews have mentioned the size of the beds being a little on the small size. However, for two average sized females this did not present any problem and on the contrary, we found the beds extremely comfortable. Other features in the room included: free and unlimited Wifi, a safe in the room with a key available from reception (avoids forgetting the safe codes and getting locked out!), and air conditioning allowing guests to personally control the temperature.

Our one minor constructive criticism is that the main room would benefit from a full length mirror as the only mirror was in the bathroom which was slightly chaotic with both of us trying to get ready in the morning at the same time.

Overall we were extremely impressed with the excellent customer service and the high quality accommodation and would definitely recommend Seven Urban Suites. It is perfect for those who are looking for value-for-money and who wish to have the flexibility of being able to self-cater.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Studio Suite, which had a small kitchenette and provided us with the flexibility to s...

The hotel location is very close to the subway - direct line to the Train Station St. Charles where the Navette (bus from/to the airport leaves every 20 minutes). Hopefully next year will finish all the repairs at Marseille so there would be direct bus conection very close to the hotel to Marseille´s beaches. We also enjoyed the kitchenette in the room a lot, fully equiped with dishes and staff for cooking. Only few thinks if I compare our stay in Barcelona in almost similar kind of the hotel is miss of sponge and some equipement for cleaning and doing the dishes...
In the lobby there is available business centre with computer and cofee machine. We enjoyed our stay a lot....
