I make the journey to Marseille 2 - 3 times a season to watch Olympique Marseille. The Stade Velodrome is one of my favorurite places to watch football. To get to the ground is very simple but I always stay nearby anyway so it is just a short stroll.
If you don't know where you are going or how to get in it can be a bit tricky but no more than any other ground around the world. Plus with all the stadium work going on (being rebuilt for the 2016 European Champioships) too didn't help but you can't really moan about things like that.
Once I found my entrance I had no trouble getting to my seat. I had previously bought my ticket from the club online and just printed it at home. One thing though is the facilities are not like English grounds where there are plenty bars etc. They only have small little sandwich bars selling food and drink but fans in Europe don't tend to spend much money inside the ground like we do in England. However around the ground are plenty stalls selling food and drink which are much better than what we get in England. Also there is a great shop opposite the Velodrome full of Ultras memorabilia if you like that. Pictures, scarves, key rings etc etc. Definetly worth a look.
I went down for L'Classique which is the match against Paris St Germain and the atmosphere was electric. The fans had been out on the streets all day singing and letting off firecrackers and bangers. When the teams came out the noise was deafening, more so than any other ground I had been to. Marseille and Paris don't really get on to say the least ha ha.
I won't go into details but sadly OM lost but it was still an amazing spectacle.
Roll on when next season's fixtures are announced so I can plan my next trip to the Stade Velodrome.

The métro is very convenient and fast. But, on arrival, the lack of any stadium plan makes finding your seat difficult. The security staff on duty for the European Rugby Cup semi-final at end April 2014 were not very helpful in either French or English. A real opportunity missed to create a welcoming atmosphere.

I was there at recent European Cup rugby match between Munster and Toulon. The weather was good and the atmosphere was excellent. The stadium appears to be about 65% of the way through a major redevelopment and will probably be very good when done.

Signage within the stadium could do with a lot of improvement but that will probably happen at completion. I sat behind the northern goal line - the leg room between the rows of seats was not very generous and this was a bit surprising for a redeveloped stadium.

Of more concern was what I would consider to be a very poor big-screen setup; it was located at the southern end but orientated really to be viewed well only by those in the West and South stands. It was very difficult to view from much of the North stand. Perhaps this will be rectified before the stadium redevelopment is completed.

Public transport and access to the stadium is very good.

We were there this weekend for a rugby match. The atmosphere was electric, the weather great, no wine just beer and no soap in the toilets! Plenty of street vendors selling sandwiches etc outside of the grounds. Metro stops right outside of the grounds, very easy to get around.

The newly developed Stade Velodrome is now thoroughly modernized and is a pleasant place to visit for a match. Take the Metro 2 from the center of Marseilles to the last stop and it's a short walk to the ground (EUR1.50 ticket). The seats in the AA, AB, AC, sections in the Ganay stand offer a great view but they are quite high and at a fair remove from the action, so make sure that you bring your glasses.
