I make the journey to Marseille 2 - 3 times a season to watch Olympique Marseille. The Stade Velodrome is one of my favorurite places to watch football. To get to the ground is very simple but I always stay nearby anyway so it is just a short stroll.
If you don't know where you are going or how to get in it can be a bit tricky but no more than any other ground around the world. Plus with all the stadium work going on (being rebuilt for the 2016 European Champioships) too didn't help but you can't really moan about things like that.
Once I found my entrance I had no trouble getting to my seat. I had previously bought my ticket from the club online and just printed it at home. One thing though is the facilities are not like English grounds where there are plenty bars etc. They only have small little sandwich bars selling food and drink but fans in Europe don't tend to spend much money inside the ground like we do in England. However around the ground are plenty stalls selling food and drink which are much better than what we get in England. Also there is a great shop opposite the Velodrome full of Ultras memorabilia if you like that. Pictures, scarves, key rings etc etc. Definetly worth a look.
I went down for L'Classique which is the match against Paris St Germain and the atmosphere was electric. The fans had been out on the streets all day singing and letting off firecrackers and bangers. When the teams came out the noise was deafening, more so than any other ground I had been to. Marseille and Paris don't really get on to say the least ha ha.
I won't go into details but sadly OM lost but it was still an amazing spectacle.
Roll on when next season's fixtures are announced so I can plan my next trip to the Stade Velodrome.
