I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and slept maybe for a total of 6 hours. Awful experience on the 2nd floor on top of their blaring sound system with their so called "cool and hip" djs.

I called the front desk at 1 am asking them frankly who are they trying to satisfy : their restaurent guests or the hotel guests that paid triple? I'm very confused by their approach, they clearly don't care if I couldn't sleep. And then the front desk person had the guts to offer ear plugs that I needed to pay for!!

The street was also surprisingly noisy even though its pretty far up the main "downtown" area.

I finally changed rooms on my last night but it still left a very bad impression. The decor is just a bit too much and I feel like they're trying too hard.

If you're in that area to party it up, then by all means stay here but if you want to rest- stay at a different hotel.

Oh and it's practically impossible to find this hotel! Even with a GPS I got lost...

Room Tip: Stay on the quiet side of the hotel and on the top floor facing the courtyard and not the busy stree...

Mama Shelter Hotel in Marseille, great to stay there. Service nice and friendly. Only the valet service was a little less.
Food in hotel restaurant nice and modern, good tastes and very friendly service!
Rooms modern and clean, nice ammenities, only shower in bathroom small and unhandy. I'am 6,3 feet.
Great help and explanations for touring the city at frontdesk!
Nice weekend stay, to be repeated.

Room Tip: Take a room viewing the court!

Book ahead and at 69 euros for a standard double, Mama Shelter is hard to beat and you won't feel too compromised.

This is a destination hotel with a large bar/restaurant and a sun filled terrace buzzing with fashionable locals in the evenings and for Sunday brunch. It's certainly more contemporary than much of Marseille.

A standard double is only just big enough and some might feel it's a little cramped for anything more than a long weekend. Our room on the 6th (top) floor was noise-free, clean and fashionably functional in an Ikea kind of way: light and airy, a good power shower and a comfortable sleep.

Sit in the square right outside for a good morning coffee from the bar and a fresh croissant or pain au chocolat from the shop - an alternative to the hotel's 15 euro breakfast.

You are 5 minutes away from the Notre Dame Du Mont metro so it's an easy train and metro trip from the airport at a tiny 6 euros 30 per head in total. Take the metro for the Old Port but also architecture fans should visit Corbusier's Unité D'Habitation, just two stops away. It's free and you can visit floors 3,4 and the fantastic rooftop.

The immediate district is down-at-hell but lively and safe, with lots of great graffiti art. Especially around Cours Julien and Rue des Trois Rois are interesting local bars and independent shops.

Tip: Les Pieds dans Le Plat is an absolutely outstanding local restaurant with a young team and a great dining room, 7 mins from the hotel. (Book in advance via Facebook)

Tip for the management: ask guests on arrival if they would like to reserve a place for Sunday brunch as you may be fully booked.

A definite recommend.

A very modern hotel with excellent staff. Breakfasts are one of the best ive had of a a hotel at this price point.

Rooms have an iMac with a choice of TV shows and movies.

Lovely outside bar area.

Great location. Oh and the mama beach is well worth a visit!

Mama keeps her promises, lavish breakfast & design rooms with cool details and a great multi media Apple centre with a solid selection of free movies & free WIFI: Mama knows us well.
Location is off the beating track though with an easy reach from Marseille must see.
Highly recommended for a city trip, with friends, family.

2 improvement points though: If Mama really loves us she will change bed cover from synthetic to natural filling and electricity sockets odd placements - un-design !!!, why not just one multi plug below the desk?

Next stop: Bordeaux...

Room Tip: ask for a room > 3r floor as prevent noise from the bar / streets

august, Marseille 2013, two teenager with their parents. And the whole family loved it! People have been friendly and kind, rooms were clean and stylish (very smal-, but economic.). We tried to eat at the harbor - that was horrible, so we went back to the hotel, do it again the delicious Salade nicoise, the grilled aubergine salad and other fine dishes. Our youngsters loved the imac and the opportunity to make photos!

Room Tip: 6th floor, out to street, no problem with noise…

Very nice fresh original decoration and room arrangements. Add also an excellent bar. Not very far from the centre, is a good location for a quiet hotel, as base for expeditions in Marseille (Culture capital of 2013).
