Best Western Hotel Marseille Bourse Vieux Port by HappyCulture
Ranked #40 of 131 Hotels in Marseille

I spent 3 nights in this hotel and not regretted. Its location is fantastic, impossible to be better and you can reach the main tourist attractions on foot. The room is small but has coffee/tea facilities, safe box, free wifi, modern bath-room, good bed, excelent breakfast at a great price, internet and printing machine available to guests and a very friendly staff. A special thanks to MALIK who made things easier for us helping with everything he could. Yes, the surrounding of the hotel is a bit noisy as it is all around the harbor. I found the price very good and will stay again if we return to Marseiille. And most important: I felt myself safe throughout our stay, nothing wrong happened.
This is the most important value for me in a hotel. Thank you again to all the staff.

I'll be very black and white about my experience here over the Valentines weekend.

The taxi from the airport dropped my partner and I across the road from the Quality Hotel on a street that was full of beggars and homeless people. The taxi cost a flat fee of €50 agreed before departure at the airport.

The hotel entrance was small but once inside you feel secure and the staff were pleasant and very helpful. We forgot our international AC adapter and staff were there to help and provided a replacement. We arrived at room 405 and although clean, it was very small (nothing like the photos's size wise'. The smell of egg was incredible which we could only put down to the air conditioning. It was very unpleasant to say the least. The bathroom was lovely, very modern and the shower was amazing. My partner was disappointed as she had no idea what I had booked (minus points for me). Room 405 is at the back of the hotel which many on here had advised. Well if the front of the hotel is noisier then I am amazed. All day and night there are people crying, shouting and cars revving engines bouncing off rev limiters (no joke). There must also be an Arabic mosque very near by as the praying being projected to the world was horrific for an atheist like myself. A terrible whiny noise consistent for many hours.

Breakfast was the usual continental slabs of cheese, wafer thin ham and cereal. Coffee machine, orange juice and a selection of pastries. Not much for a protein hunter outside of a cold boiled egg. All the same it was as expected and with a good shower we were set for the day.

Once out of the hotel, we felt it quite important to get to Vieux Port which is a much nicer area. The walk is only five minutes. The port can be experienced with the free ferry crossing, lunch at a bar and the bus to Notre Dame €1.80 all in one day. Bars and restaurants here are very overpriced, some locals are very nice others not so much. We aren't even average French speakers but we try. This isn't Paris, you wont find everyone you bump into capable of speaking English.

All in all this area can be seen and enjoyed in the sun in a single day. If you want to stay here I'd go 5* and stay at the InterContinnental where we had dinner and cocktails on 14th Feb. It is a beautiful hotel, double the price in comparison to Quality Hotel at €200 per night but my word what a difference in quality it is. I was very tempted to move but for 2 nights it wasn't worth the hassle.

If you are travelling alone and you would like something nicer than a hostel then choose this hotel. If you think that spending 100% more than a hostel for this hotel is a lot then you'd be right. However I have stayed in hostels similar in my time. This isn't meant as a bad review, it just wasn't for us and we now know we do like the finer things in life.

Would I/we visit Marseilles again?...Not out of choice.

Dear Guest,

I feel sorry you did not like Marseille. I wish we found a way to show you how rich this city is when you go over the first sight, and this is definitly not a city you get to know in one day.
But hopefully some day you will return and maybe you will change your mind.

But we thank you for taking the time to share your opinion with us.

Sincerely yours,

Very nice staff, helped us to find the nearest parking, gas oil. The rooms at the hotel are small, but for one or two nights that is enough. We took breakfast - it was OK. Location- close to port, but it was hard to find a place to eat between 5 and 7 p.m. Hard to sleep - all night people were crying, buses and trams were cracking.

This three star hotel is centrally located, a few minutes walk to the old harbour and historic neighbourhood. Due to this location a lot of possibilities to travel by public transport are available, almost direct access to metro, bus and tramways. The hotel is recently renovated in an older block. Rooms are clean, rather small and basic (it is not a luxury hotel), but that is OK, with a modern and nice bathroom (excellent shower !). All rooms have free WiFi access. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast is fine, you can order a free picnic for lunch if you want.
It is a perfect hotel to visit the city of Marseille and its beautiful museums. A lot of good restaurants are available at the historic center (we had some lovely ones, not more than a 15 minutes walk).

Room Tip: choose for a room in the back (it is more quiet), in the front area it might be a little bit noisy...

This was a very pleasant hotel. Well located on Cours Belsunce and, thus, only 3 mins from the old port and no more than about 15 mins walk from the station.

It's a small hotel, with fairly small rooms. But they are clean and nicely furnished. My bathroom was a decent size and had a very good shower and a large, hot radiator - this was welcome as it was cold when we travelled to Marseille.

Staff were friendly. We had breakfast on the second day. It costs €12 for those who have to pay, ie those who got the hotel for a cheaper price than booking direct, online. That was not too bad, value-wise. There was juice, cereals, hams, eggs, tea, coffee, yogurts etc. all taken in the small breakfast room adjoining the "lounge" (a couple of seats by the lift on the first floor).

We had rooms on the front on the 3rd and 4th floors. It was a little bit noisy but nothing you wouldn't find in other big cities.

If returning to Marseille, we would definitely stay again at this hotel. It had everything you needed for the price you pay.

Quality hotel is a 3 star hotel, very close to the metro station as well as the port. We got off the metro and walked for ~5 minutes to get to the hotel. The rooms are very nice (make sure to select the one facing the street) and spot clean, and the bathroom is quite big (separate toilet and bathing room), going by the standards of the other 3 star hotels in Europe. All electronics were new and in a good working condition. Would definitely recommend this place.

Room Tip: Take the one facing the street

I used to live in Marseille and know the city very well, so it was fun to go back there with my wife. We enjoyed our stay at Quality Hotel...very basic but clean and friendly staff with excellent breakfasts that are complimentary. Rooms have been redone recently, as well as bathrooms.

You will save money staying here instead of 100 yards closer to Vieux Port. Even though you can't see the water from this hotel, it is a 1 minute walk. If traveling on a budget is important to you, then I recommend this hotel. Also, with the new surface Tram that passes right in front of it, you can get anywhere in the city fast. The Vieux Port Metro stop is also very close.

Don't be afraid of what people say about Cours Belsunce neighborhood being dangerous. Just be street smart and you'll be fine!

The only drawback is it's noisy at night oftentimes with the Tram going by and people sometimes hollering in the street. But if you're used to Europe's urban atmosphere, this won't bother you.
