The apartments themselves were lovely, friendly staff, clean rooms, spacious bathrooms. The kitchenette was very useful and contained pans, plates, bottle opener, cutlery etc so we were able to cook our own meals. However the problem we faced was that we were on a budget holiday so were not planning to use taxis and trams to get around, we wanted to walk from our hotel to marseille city centre as it looked like a relatively short walk. However the neighbourhood which lies between the Hotel and Marseille centre does not feel safe. People were selling items on the pavement which had clearly been pickpocketed. We felt as tourists we stuck out like a sore thumb and on one occasion were followed and someone unzipped our bag, luckily there was nothing in the front pocket. The tram station is very close to the hotel so make sure you budget for this and it takes you directly to the city centre. Or just stay somewhere more central, we wished we had done. Marseille felt like a city which is good for tourists only in the central area.

I booked a holiday to Marseille on a whim, it was all that my boyfriend and I could afford at the time. However, the reviews really put me off both Marseille and this hotel.
The journey from the airport to the hotel is easy and cheap, the Metro is reliable and the hotel is a few minutes away from the station 'National'.
We arrived too early for check in but dropped our bags off and went for a walk around the area. In truth the area isn't great, at night it isn't particularly breathtaking. But like I said we didn't pay a lot at all. The room was a great size, very modern, really clean and our view was decent. The staff are amazing and multilingual. You have to bare in mind this is an apartment and most people have rated it as if it were a hotel. Your room doesn't get cleaned, your rubbish doesn't get taken out.
There is also a standard 'room charge' payable at check in. The apartments were nice and quiet and Marseille is lovely, very hot (we went in August) and the people are wonderful. Everything worked in the room and the kitchen had all the amenities we required for a self catered holiday. They offer breakfast but we chose not to have any, so i can't rate that. There is a vending machine in the lobby, air conditioning in every room, a radiator that you can switch on and underground car parking. The only issue we actually had was the fact that the WI-FI can only be accessed at reception and outside in the courtyard. But that really shouldn't mean this apartment gets a 1 star rating!

Room Tip: Try to get a room higher up, as the view is better

The nearest metro stop is the National on line 2 and the tram is Arenc le Silo on T2. The location is very convenient for Marseille centre and transport is cheap compared to London, one euro 50 for a single journey and 3 euros return. You can also buy 1-3 day tickets. The area is near the commercial docks and still being updated.
It is tricky to locate the place as signage is minimal, look for a metal gate with a flag type banner. Other properties on the road have no numbers or are still being constructed.
The appartments are self catering, so you do not get the same service level as a hotel. You are asked to empty your bins and leave the kitchen as you find it, this is normal for self catering in my experience and I didn't mind this for the low price. Your bedding and towels will not be changed, again it's not a hotel so not expected.
Reception had a queue on arrival, a 10 minute wait and the lady was multilingual, a bit sarcastic but smiley.
We had room 601 which is a small studio with double bed, small kitchen, bathroom and TV. There was a small of drains emanating from somewhere, not sure if that is the area in general or the plumbing. I had the window open as often as possible.
WiFi is free to use in the breakfast area (breakfast buffet available at about 9 euros) - free WiFi is very handy.
The air con/heating did not work in the room but temperatures were mid 20 degrees C so not really an issue for the first week of September. There is a plug socket for the kettle next to the kitchen sink, this would not happen in the UK but French regs must be different.
All basic cutlery and crockery is provided, we just missed having a good bread knife as bread is so good in France and you cannot pack one in your luggae for obvious reasons.

Overall, a clean and basic stay at a very low nightly rate.

Room Tip: Avoid the front overlooking a road and club.

Good hotel to stay in Marseille. It doesn't locat in the city centre though, the metro station and bust station is in five mins walk. Very quiet and convenient. The stuffs are nice and friendly. The room is clean and tidy.
However, only the wifi zone is not that satisfied. Cannot use wifi in hotel room. The wifi only can be connected around the lobby in the ground floor.
But anyway, it's a very good hotel to stay in marseille.

- Location is good, close to Métro National.
- Neighbourhood is not so nice: Almost no stores, declining, poor, dirty buildings, but not scary.
- Avoid going out in the late evening though; When its light is safer.
- The appartment is not so big, but big enough; just like a hotelroom.
Wait for the lift can be really long; Room is not as clean as in a 4 star hotel, but the beds are clean. Its super noisy outside, most its because of the streetwork, even at night. So windows have to be closed at night. Also, airconditioning doesn't work, impossible to get the room cool. This avoid people to sleep. They sometimes forget to register the paiment for the parking when paid with cash, so keep all the bills otherwise they let you pay another time.
Just beware of the fact that its your apartment, so you have to keep it clean yourself, and can't have the change of towels (or you pay for it). A good thing: In every room there is 2 beds, or 1 bed for 2 .... Also the girls at the reception where nice and explained a lot.
-Otherwise things are fine, and price-quality relation is ok...

Room Tip: avoid rooms on street side (even if you can see the sea a bit from there), and try to ask for a room...

Getting there: Landed in Marseille, 25 mins to Saint Charles station (£13 return) on airport shuttle bus, 3 stops on metro to National station.

Location: For the price it is a great location to visit Marseille. Its either like a 25 minute walk to the harbor/view point, or around 15 mins using public transport. It is within a few minutes walking distant to the main metro and tram stops. Marseille transport itself is really cheap, £10.50 for a 3 day pass, £5 for 24 hours or travel is included using the Marseille city pass.

Despite all of the positives in location for access, the area of the hotel itself is an absolute slum. The area is obviously poor, roads and pavement all scruffy, dog poo around and would not want to be by myself at night. The hotel is opposite a club so there is usually load music until late also.

The hotel itself and the room: Was all very modern and room was great. Get the kitchen in the room which is useful, and then free air conditioning, fridge, with a desk and tv. Great Value for money.

Service: very poor. we were first given a room which was 2 singles instead of a double. we got changed to another, which after unpacking had a leaking ceiling, again got moved to a room which was finally fine. however no apology given just another key given to us.

Overall: again great for access to city center and also local beaches. Marseille itself is only 2 days worth, but can be made into a weeks holiday like we did by visiting beeches.

If you need any help in planning or getting around then please feel free to contact me :).

We stayed here for 3 nights and our room was not cleaned once. On arrival the staff were very slow and quite rude, check in was at 3pm which was far too late. The location of the hotel was quite far out but the tram line was close by which was useful. The rooms overall were impressive and we enjoyed having our own kitchen facilities. Being a very new hotel we expected a much better service
