“October visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2013

An awesome center-located hotel, not far from the main train station, the old port and by no means expensive for the level of comfort offered with a great breakfast (non-continental), good service and a reception that has accepted us even before the check-in right time without any complaints. Very modern, clean and welcoming. I recommend.

I was pleased to be in the rather upscale neighbourhood near the Notre Dame metro stop. It is a major shopping hub and there are some rather nice (and reasonably priced) restaurants nearby (see Le Jardin d'a côté (open lunch only) and Le Goût des Choses (yum, and nice service too)). It is about a 15 min walk to le vieux port and certainly in an area that is less sketchy than some of the others I saw (where I basically held on to my purse for dear life). I was in room 611 which had a balcony (I requested a balcony). As far as I can tell all the *11 rooms have a balcony, and it was worth it to see the lovely view of Marseille centre off in the distance as the sun set. The room was clean *but* there was definitely a smoker in it before me. There was a bathtub (quite unusual in French hotels and I wish I had taken advantage of it) but the towels smelled rather funky. And no hairdryer, a definite downside. The staff were rather exceptionally friendly. Always appreciated. Would I stay there again? Yes, as long as I get another balcony room.

Yes, the corridors are awful, but the room are clean and the service is friendly.
When you do want a quiet room ask 411, 511 or 611 (or at least not on the street (which is tiny, but noisy sometimes) they are situated and the end of the corridors, so you don't have the noise of people waiting for the lift (which sometimes takes bit of time).
Breakfast is at minima.
But for this price, you can't be waiting for a "chateau".
5 min walk to the Canebiere, 10min (slowly) to the Vieux Port und 5min to go to all the restaurants and bars of "La Plaine".

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the backside of the hotel.

We only stopped for one night and needed a cheap place. This is what we got - a bed, a shower and a tv. Think a smaller version of main bedroom with ensuite and you won't need to look at pictures.

Service was quite good though

If you've ever stayed in a Premiere Classes hotel before then you'll know it's not a luxury establishment. They're designed to be cheap and functional - and this hotel is definitely both of those.

We stayed for one night and were met by a helpful receptionist who quickly sorted our rooms keys. There is a 0.90€ local tax per person per night which you have to pay on arrival.

Our two rooms were on the 7th floor of the hotel which is reached by quite an old and slow lift. The keycards are not marked and are contactless meaning that in the event you lose you card whilst out and about then anyone who picks it up will have no idea where it is for. This is handy as the rooms do not have security boxes in them. The rooms were clean and tidy, and the bathrooms were in the same state (although with a slightly odd smell).

The hotel is located a short walk (10-15mins) away from the Vieux-Port and an even shorter walk (5mins) from the nearest Metro station at Notre Dame du Mont Cours Julien. Just down the hill and around the corner from the hotel is a small supermarket and you'll also find plenty of restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor on the eastern side of the hotel have very good views across the city.

The location of the hotel in Marseille is great. All sights of Marseille are within walking distance and there are a lot of places to eat. The price for a room matches the quality of the room. The beds are ok but the shower is a little bit old and can be better for a two star hotel. Ask for a room at the backside of the building because the front can be noisy.

Nevertheless, parking your car is an experience. For a 8 euro's per day you can park you car underneath the hotel. You have to take an elevator (with your car) to reach it.
