Inter-Hotel Parc des Expositions
Ranked #71 of 132 Hotels in Marseille
Reviewed 20 August 2007

A friend and I booked this hotel for a trip to Marseille for a rugby match. We chose it mainly because it was cheap and near the stadium (and also near a Metro station so we could get into town easily). We paid 60 euros a night for a twin room (not including breakfast, which was extra) and it was perfectly OK for the price.

It was easy to find - just about visible from the Metro station at Rond-point du Prado, and from there it's 10 minutes into the city centre. The area is fine - mostly businesses in the immediate area but there are restaurants and bars just round the corner and it's a short bus ride to the coast and the famous Prado beaches.

It was a small room with a very small ensuite bathroom, but it was clean and functional. There was only limited space for hanging clothes - not a problem for a short stay but perhaps a problem for anything longer. Beds were comfortable although the mattress slid around quite a lot on the base which meant that the sheets didn't stay put - not a huge problem, just slightly annoying! There was something in the room that looked like it should have been a temperature control thing (air con / heating?) but it didn't seem to work. But with the window open the temperature was fine. Might not be so great if it was seriously hot - it was only high 20s (= low 80s) when we were there and there was a nice breeze.

The water pressure in the shower was good and there was always hot water. The tap water smelt a bit funny (!), but my friend drank it (I decided not to...) and didn't have any problems, so I guess it can't be that bad.

Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and spoke some English - between that and my limited French there weren't any communication problems.

Food-wise, we paid to have breakfast in the hotel just for convenience really. It was OK, in fact most of it was great, but the croissants were a bit disappointing (just because you have high expectations of the croissants in a French hotel, and these weren't really any better than you'd get in the UK). The restaurant below the hotel was closed for summer when we were there but the menu looked good and reasonably priced.
