I had originally written a review for this hotel shortly after my stay in May, but I needed to ask to delete it and revise it due to (what is now) an inaccuracy in my original post. I was booked into this hotel for 3 nights. In general, it was a good standard hotel. Reception was generally good if you went in person. They were very hard to reach over the phone. I can understand during the day when people are coming and going at the reception desk, but they don't answer the phone at all when I tried calling at night (after midnight). I wanted to ask a question before I checked out the next morning, but just never had anyone answer at all after trying several time for quite some time so I gave up.
Due to being misinformed by my work, we needed to change hotels after 3 nights due to lack of space for our group at Villa Massalia. So I was surprised that I was booked in for only 3 nights when I in fact needed 4 when I checked in. They kindly changed this, although this was already a mistake on their part since maybe they would have seen I was part of a group booking for 3 nights. I'm not going to blame the reception person who did this since they were trying to correct what we thought was a mistake in the first place. However, when we informed them of the unnecessary 4th night that was booked and wanted to cancel it (giving more than a day's notice when I found out that I was being moved), they still wanted to charge us the extra night for the room. We refused and they apparently seemed to have changed it. But this is what has changed since my first review. They recently sent a bill to my French colleague asking us to pay for this room that we asked be cancelled. They acted like they would cancel the charges that shouldn't have been given in the first place, but they apparently feel that we should pay for it with no reason why (we are still going to refuse to pay for the cancelled extra night of the room and my colleague is currently dealing with this).
I didn't select this hotel so didn't know what kind of room I was getting, but I got something more like a suite with a separate bedroom, a living room area and a big bathroom. I also had a balcony and a nice view of the hippodrome (unfortunately, I used the room very little since I was mostly out working). Also what I loved was the blackout blinds that block light from the window since I love sleeping in dark rooms. So a big positive on the room I got, which I realize not everyone will get. Others in my group were not impressed with their room (very small) or the view (looking at the gas station), so there are quite a variety of rooms besides the huge one that I got.
Breakfast is good with a lot of variety and food seems fresh. I had room service one night and had the caesar salad but that was nothing special at all.
I'm not exactly sure how much this hotel costs since I did not book and pay for it this time, but apparently it's expensive. If that's the case, I guess I can expect to be a bit more demanding with the little things in service. But in general, people looking for a comfortable place to just sleep should be ok with this place, but don't expect much out of their service or organization.
