We ate at L'Aile ou la Cuisse last night and were blown away. Our hotel referred us to Grain de Sel and we checked out the ratings and it had very good reviews. We were very disappointed. Service was just ok. Our server was awkward and could speak very little English. One positive note... Our wine was great! Food was average.. Passed on dessert and went back to L'Aile ou la Cuisse and got dessert to go. Great again!

The big plate concept took us by surprise, saying that most of the items on the plate were more than edible. We found the staff to be very attentive, in fact despite speaking French & telling them this they did keep insisting on explaining everything in English!! We sat inside and the setting was lovely.

My wife and I tried a couple of the "big plates." Mostly tasteless dribble. A hamburger would have been much better. Better yet, the pizza places in town blow this place away. I have no idea how this place can be # 1. Maybe all of their friends are writing the reviews.

We ate here with our 2 children ages 8 & 11. It was Saturday night so many couples out on dates! The entrees were large & not very good - my husband had the smoked salmon with wasabi foam: tasteless & needlessly large; my "Aubergine au Mr Sanguin" was a nice baked eggplant with some chevre within it & a decent ratatioulle around but overwhelmed by a large swirl of ham and lettuce. This was also surrounded by chopped raw carrot which was unnecessary.
The main courses were acceptable, as were the children's meals (pan-fried chicken with chips). There were only 2 waitresses who were clearly overworked & a maitre d' who could see we were dissatisfied with our entrees and chose to ignore us thereafter.
An overall underwhelming experience.

Grain de Sel is a great restaurant choice in St. Remy. The interior is kind of wierd and quirky at first, and the menu is not typical of the area, but it was a nice change from the norm and turned out to be a very good meal all around.
The big plates are a good option, although big is an understatement - nobody could finish theres. Other food was also very good, and also very large portions.
Worth a visit.
