“An enjoyable experience...”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

Travelling as 2 couples, we stayed 2 nights during our trip to this region. After some initial issues with the rooms we had been offered, we had a most enjoyable stay. Our room was on the small side (this being their standard room), but had a very comfortable bed and plenty of cupboard space. Room/bathroom very clean. Good air-conditioning which was needed during our visit. We had the set-menu meal on our first night; choices were limited but the staff accommodated us, by substituting some food items for others which none of us ate. Not a first class meal, but it was beautifully presented nevertheless. Breakfast was expensive at €23pp but the choice was extensive and well laid out. Pool facilities were very good. One disappointment was that you could not get a light snack to eat at the hotel - which we found annoying if you're at the pool at lunchtime. The hotel's location near to St Remy worked well for us. All hotel staff were very friendly and we enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as part of a walking holiday. Our room was probably only a 'standard' as it was a little on the small side.Nevertheless it had a large and extremely comfortable bed, a small balcony and a modern bathroom with separate toilet. Unusually for France it also had a coffee making facility (using a capsule machine). We had half board which gave no choice but the food was of a high standard and beautifully presented.Beware the prices of after dinner coffee though! Breakfast was again well presented with a huge variety of foods but the only hot option was kept warm in a bain marie and as the only plates on offer were cold, the scrambled egg was also cold by the time we were able to eat it. (This seems to be a perennial problem in French hotels, or is it only the British who think hot food should be served hot?)
The hotel itself is some distance (about half a mile) from the centre of Saint Remy in a leafy suburb, but there is a free shuttle bus into town if you ask at reception. We found it useful for getting into the town centre as it was very hot during our stay. The only problem was that we had quite a long wait for the return shuttle as it arrived at least a quarter of an hour later than it said to pick us up.
The outstanding feature of this hotel for me was the friendly and courteous nature of the staff. Several of them made a special point of coming over to talk to us and they were anxious to know that everything was to our liking. We witnessed one elderly lady slipping without falling,on a small splash of water in the breakfast buffet room and from then on a whole chain of people arrived with new doormats, mops and towels to ensure that there could be no further accidents. They certainly take health and safety very seriously.
I would certainly stay at this hotel again if I were in the area. I slept really well on an expensive mattress with crisp white sheets. The room was dark (those French shutters are great - we need them in England in summer) and quiet. The staff went out of their way to please you.

Within walking distance to the restaurants and shopping in St Remy - or hire one of the bikes located at the hotel. This is a serene location with spa and good restaurants. The pool is a good 20mx10m pool, suitable for lengths in the morning.
Staff were very attentive - nothing was too much trouble.

Room Tip: Room 1 and 2 overlook the pool.

This hotel was beautiful and perfectly located for St Remy de Provence and the surrouding areas. Although it was certainly on the expensive side, the food, facilities and service were very good. I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Rooms are a little bit on the tight side. Not a tremendous amount of maneouvering space around the b...

We didn't know what to expect and we had no idea where we were going. We knew we wanted a place somewhere in Provence so that we could drive to the surrounding areas. My travel agent came up with a killer rate for this hotel and we were not disappointed. Our suite was AMAZING and we were three adults and the suite had a king bed as well as another room with a double bed in it. WE had our own private pool and a huge terrace. The restaurant is absolutely amazing and the breakfast in the morning is killer. The best part, the hotel is absolutely walkable into St. Remy to enjoy the market or some time in town. The staff was very helpful and spoke great English, which is always a plus for me in a country where I do not speak their language. I would absolutely stay here again!

We arrived on a sparkling December day and were greeted at hotel le vallon with a very warm welcome and led to our beautiful room. We had a balcony facing the stunning alpilles. The room was immaculate and felt very cosy in a good way! The spa was perfect and a great place to unwind. The little bar was nice but unfortunately we didn't manage to sample the restaurant but had room service most days, breakfast on our balcony with lashings of hot coffee was a real treat. All the staff were charming. We will be back to this hotel and hopefully soon!

We stayed in this hotel off season and I would not want to be there in high season.

First disappointment is the lack of proper room service. I asked for continuous room and food service a we travel with our 1.5 year old son. They told me that the gastronomic restaurant is closed in March (which was why we booked here in the first place but never mind) but bistro and room service will be available (first try for baby food, the kitchen staff out to buy groceries and second try they only serve charcuterie!). After we put our baby to bed, we tried the soup one night (minuscule and not warm enough) and risotto (salty and dry). It was actually a surprise we could even order because they did not have a menu, nor they had anyone who could count more than two types (chicken or sea bream to be precise) of food. Apparently the chef gastronomic changes the menu everyday, an explanation that makes me laugh really.

Breakfast mediocre, I had a lot better in 3 star hotel in the same town.

Junior suite reasonable size, a terrace in front unexpectedly but no doors to the terrace. Workers in terrace daytime, as I could see them walking by I assume they could as well see us in the room.

A lot of noise at night. Towel service at baby bedtime. I would enjoy a towel if it was pure white but the hotel had an aged selection, greyed and not so soft. Shutters really noisy, need some oiling and I would believe if they told me our neighbors up has ponies.

Room spotless clean and have nice kitchen sort of space in a wardrobe.

Indoor pool cosy and warm. Garden, nearly none!
