The Chateau des Alpilles is a wonderful place. Very elegant, comfortable, excellent restaurant and perfect staff. We had a lovely stay and will come back in our next trip to Provence. Highly recommended!

My sister and I spent 4 days at this hotel in May. To get there we boarded the TGV train at CDG airport in Paris. It took approximately 3 hours to Avignon. We picked up the rental car outside the station and drove to the hotel which is close to St-Remy. The drive takes 20-30 minutes. We struggled a bit with finding the correct road out of St-Remy so GPS might be a good idea. We got a spacious twin room in the main house with comfortable beds and a nice bathroom. The tranquil garden was lovely and we ate several meals outside. We went sightseeing during the day but had breakfast and dinner at the hotel. All the meals were delicious and the service excellent. The hotel is conveniently located for trips to Avignon, Arles, Les-Baux-des-Provence, villages in Luberon, Camargue etc. We had a lovely stay and I can highly recommend this hotel.

We are staying with friends in the area and needed to stay somewhere for a night, the setting is idyllic and the staff are really fantastic (nothing is too much trouble). I would really recommend it whether you are with family or on a romantic trip. The food is really really amazing..... Enjoy.

Our stay at Le Chateau de Alpilles began with an hour drive around St. Remy looking for it. The directions given on the internet site were only if you were coming from the North. Better instructions would have helped a lot. The entrance to the hotel is breathtakingly beautiful. It is like a dream come true. The grounds are spectacular and if the weather had been a little better, we might have opted to not tour the area and just stay there. Because it was early May, we were not able to use the pool or other outside facilities.
We had a corner room with four large windows. The room was very nice decorated in antique French furnishings. When we were settling into our room, we tried to get the air conditioner to work. The person they sent up had just started working there and did not know how to fix the air conditioner or anything about the television. The situation is that the air conditioner will not come on when the air temperature outside is a certain degree. The outside air was pleasant but opening the windows and shutters created the shutters to bang all night long because it was terribly windy for four nights we were there.
We dined in the restaurant the first night there and it was nice but not perfect. The five star rating in Europe seems to be a bit lax compared to United States standards. We did not eat outside because it was just too cold but it would have been nice to have. In order to enjoy the most of this hotel, I think coming later in the summer would have let you use more of the facilities.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room as you get more windows and more light.

Our last stop in Provence and the best of the three hotels we stayed in, all recommended in Karen Brown's guidebooks. So much character, starting with the long plane tree lined driveway. We stayed three nights in two different rooms, both corners. The rooms are large and comfortably furnished with antiques. The bathrooms are large and have modern amenities and huge Frette towels. We booked dinner upon arrival and enjoyed it so much we ate there the rest of our stay, two nights outdoors in the courtyard. It was a bit chilly but they furnish you with a lovely light woolen shawl. Service was outstanding and friendly. The place is magical.

The Chateau is a 5 minute drive into St. Remy. Our room was a corner room with 4 large windows overlooking the woods and fish pond. We slept with the windows open, fresh cool air, and quiet. The dining rooms were beautifully set and the food worthy of a Michelin star. Special thanks to John Pierre for explaining the gourmet menus that changed every day. I believe the chef has been there for 12+ years. Stayed 2 nts and will stay no where else if we are in that area of Provence. The grounds are large an well maintained. Though too cold to swim, the pool was inviting.

We stayed for three nights at Le Chateau des Alpilles as the first out of 4 hotels on our tour around the Provence. While all hotels on our trip were very good, the whole family agreed that this was the most enjoyable hotel.

In terms of style it is a family run country side hotel in an old Chateau. The style is true French and everything about the hotel feels grown over many years and very authentic.

We stayed with our two children in the old washhouse - Le "Lavoir". This was perfect, as it was a little house about 100 meters from the main building with a bedroom, lounge and bathroom on the ground floor and second bedroom on the first floor. It felt very comfortable and there is a nice table outside to enjoy breakfast or dinner in the privacy of your house. Our children absolutely loved it. For children there are a lot of things to discover in the extensive park around the place.

Overall style is very relaxed but proper 5* boutique hotel standard.

We also enjoyed the restaurant with reasonable priced and nice food, not Michelin star level food - but comfort food you will enjoy to have every night. Also wine selection was very good. The indoor dining room is interesting, but if weather permits eating outside is the much better option.

Staff and service was excellent on all levels.

Room Tip: Le Lavoir is perfect for a family with 2 children (it would also fit 3 children with an extra bed...
