Life is too short not to see La Provence before dying! If you go there for the first time or the 10th time, I recommend St Remy de Provence, a charming, quaint little village where Van Gogh found refuge at the end of his life. For lodging, visit Villa Glanum - a fantastic roman/provencal quiet hotel where all you hear are crickets and enjoy the scent of lavender.
The place was impeccable, as was the service. What a dream garden...Visit the Glanum roman ruins within 30mn drive, or you will regret not to have gone; as I have the first time. Too many things to do. Just go to St Remy and see what happens.

We stayed here as part of a longer trip. The hotel has charm. It is comfortable and the pool, garden and restaurant are well done. Ask for a room that faces the pool. The area has much to offer and the staff has great ideas.

I ended up here because the hotel we were supposed to stayed was full. What a nice surprise.
The hotel is gorgeous and cozy.
The room facing the garden was really small, very clean and well appointed. Nice bathroom as well.
The gardens are lovely and perfect for drinks with friends before dinner. I didn't try the restaurant, but it looked nice.
The location is a little bit far from the town, but not a problem if you've got a bike like we had.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the gardens looked more interesting.

We were staying a couple of hours south of St. Remy so decided to book a hotel rather than drive there and back in a day.

Found the Villa on the net. Had what we were looking for - close to St. Remy but not in town.

Very nice and perhap the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in!

The hotel if family owned and operated. One brother does the hotel and the other runs the restaurant and cooks.

The grounds are lovely and the room appeared to have recently been renovated.

They are very friendly and accomodating.

We had the lamb with polenta, which we were told the next day by the brother who looks after the hotel is the signature dish of his brother the chef.

If you do stay here don't forget to ask to meet the family's pet donkey!

My wife and I booked a superior room. It was simply appalling. Small bed in a cramped room that one might expect back packing around India. Simply not up to scratch. For the price you would have to have no standards at all to stay here! Needless to say we moved on to better pastures.

We stayed here on a driving trip of southern France. Just one mile south of St Remy it is incredibly easy to find. It is a charming converted villa across the street from the place where Van Gough spent many years and adjoining the incredible Celtic / Greek / Roman Ruins. We just stayed parked at the hotel and walked to both the ruins and the Van Gough trail of about 22 stops. The rooms were charming and secluded by hedges forming green walks around the patios for each. The restaurant was reasonable and delicious food served in a artistic fashion. We used this place as a base of operations to move further a field to places like the Chateau Les Baux. This ruined Chateau with it's incredible visage from a high mesa commands views all the way to the Mediterranean Sea and is surrounded by a robust little village crammed with reasonable shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: Choose the mid level rooms for more space

My god, I never had such a bad housekeeping service in my life! We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights, and our beds have never been made. Never in these 4 days! No cleaning of the room, not even of the bathroom.
And what is even worse: when we complained about that, they did not apologize for the lack of housekeeping, but they said it was our fault because we left too much personal belongings on the beds. The housekeeping lady, they said, is not allowed to touch personal belongings of the guests. I never heard a thing like that before. You cannot leave your pyjama on the bed, otherwise the housekeeper cannot do her work ? Believe me, it was not a bad dream, but incredible reality.
By the way: the pool is nice (but cold), breakfast is ok, and the restaurant is really good.

Room Tip: Any room, but just for one night, so you don't have to worry abour housekeeping ...
