“Superb Property and Location”
Reviewed 1 January 2014

Le Castelet des Alpilles is a wonderful property located just outside of busy Saint Remy de Provence. It is an easy walk to town and an even shorter walk to the Glanum Ruins and St. Paul Monastery (both of which are very much worth a visit). The rooms are sizable by European taandards and the hotel features an attractive courtyard sitting area. While it is located on a main road leading to Saint Remy from the south, it is much quieter than lodgings nearer the center of town. The eating area is spacious and the breakfasts were very good. This hotel is to be highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the road will be quieter, although all of the rooms are quite nice.

We stayed four nights at this charming hotel in October 2013.
The room was clean and fresh with a modern bathroom. It had a balcony with a lovely view of the Alpilles hills and overlooked the terrace and garden, where there were seats set out in shady nooks. Parking was free, private and secure. We breakfasted on the terrace in the morning sunshine, and enjoyed bread, croissants, homemade jams etc. (see other reviews). The ladies who run the hotel were charming, attentive and helpful. The hotel is less than a five minute walk to the town, where there is a wide range of places to eat, as well as a wonderful market on Wednesdays. We plan to return as this is the ideal base from which to explore the region.

Room Tip: Request a room with balcony.

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel with a wonderful view of the mountains from our window. The room was spacious with lots of shelves. The bathroom was modern. The staff was helpful and pleasant. We had the breakfast buffet one morning and it was delicious with a variety of breads, pastries, fruit, cereal, coldcuts, cheese, etc. Although the hotel is along a main street, we did not hear any noise. Also, the parking area is convenient and free. The garden and sitting areas in front of the hotel are very pretty. However, we did not have time to sit and enjoy them. Walk into town is 5 minutes and there is a grocery store nearby. Unfortunately the market on Wednesday was cancelled due to another event going on that week. Walking around the small streets with shops and cafes was really nice. Bought a delicious apple tart at a patisserie which had a wonderful assortment of goodies.

Have just returned from a Landscape Designer tour to Provence and we stayed at Le Castelet des Alpilles for 3 nights. It was utterly charming, so very provencal. The rooms are all light and airy and all but one bathroom has been renovated. This last room to be done this winter. The garden is lovely, the rooms are quiet and Isabelle the owner could not have been more helpful. There is no elevator and the stairs go up and own in all directions, but this only adds to the utter charm of the place. If people want a generic chain hotel in Provence, then they should stay at home. Isabelle even had her husband come and help us with the luggage both on arrival and departure even though he had to work a full time job. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from downtown St. Remy and it's very quiet. I did not have a room with airconditioning and in September it was hot, but I left my window open every evening and it was delightful. No bugs at all. It was wonderful to sit in the garden after a long day with a glass of Provence Rose . Thank you Isabelle for everything. Would definitely stay there again, just for the ambience and the warm welcome we received. Great value for the price.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies are delightful - This hotel is simply the best value for the money

We made a reservation for two rooms based on the reviews in this and other sites. Upon arrival, we discovered that the hotel has long flights of stair and no elevator, a real issue for one member of our party with heart problems. While we were introducing ourselves at the reception, my wife went to use the bathroom by the reception and encountered a flooded bathroom floor which no one at the reception seemed to care about. We were then shown two rooms. One room had a very strong smell of mold that set off an allergic reaction. This same room had a large (urine?) stain on the carpet. The other room had a large bed with a nice balcony, but the bed sagged so badly I knew I, at least, would end up with a sore back if I slept there.
We informed the receptioin that we would not stay at their hotel and wanted our deposit back. They refused.
We ended up staying at the Hotel de L'Image in Saint Remy. This hotel is much more central than the Castlet des Alpiles and we enjoyed our stay there.
I am amazed at all the positive reviews of the Castelet des Alpiles on this and other similar sites. We stayed at many hotels during our twe weeks in France, and none came close to being as bad as the Castelet des Alpiles.

Room Tip: Stay at the Hotel de L'Image

Pros:
Centrally located, spacious room, secure parking, nice staff, charming (but basic) building and room, air conditioning (rare for France). On the busy road to Les Baux.
I didn't give it a perfect review because it is on a loud street and breakfast was all processed food (packaged cheeses and fruit, sliced bread). Also, it looks like the furnishings haven't been changed in a long time (but for the price, who cares?)

Room Tip: Some rooms have air conditioning -- others don't -- choose appropriately

We had a wonderful stay here during our four-day trip to St. Remy. The staff was excellent and our room (#10) had an INCREDIBLE balcony, an AC, TV and a modern bathroom. We found the room clean as well. We paid a little extra for the balcony and AC, but it was well worth it. The large courtyard surrounding the front of the hotel is beautifully maintained with new yard furniture - a perfect place to sit with a glass of wine or a book. The free wifi also worked well too. We spent ample time on our balcony each night watching the sunset - it was truly the best part of our trip. The walk to town was no more than 7 minutes, making this a great location if you're going to spend time in this little town. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: If you want to spend a little extra for a balcony (highly recommend!) ask for room 10 or 11 if avail...
