It's a beautiful castle and has some nice views of town. However, it's primarily an art museum. The art itself is not bad, but it just seems like such a waste -- much of it is contemporary art that could be displayed in a much more appropriate setting. There is a separate building with some information about the lake that may be interesting to natural history buffs. Not sure it was worth the 5 Euro admission or the 30 minutes it took to go through it. Annecy is better suited for simply relaxing at the park, strolling along the canals, or other activities -- this will seem like a waste compared to that.

“what a pity”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2012

The castle itself is beautiful.
It is just a pity a contemporary arts installement had been set up withing certain areas, and having nothing to do with the castle,or history, my family and I were a little "lost"..

there is interesting information, however on the lake, the inhabitants of the lake, the depth, as a fishing and diving enthusiast, I loved this part.
There is also a little on history, and early life around the lake, and how people lived back in the day.

“a bit disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012

As the Chateau was stripped bare by one of the daughters of the Ducs du Nemour when she married a king of France, it doesn't have much of interest inside. This is in contrast to the Chateau du Menton which has a fascinating history and is still well furnished.

Beautifully restored Museum on a hilltop overlooking the town and lake. Wonderful views from the ramparts. Stonework is outstanding.
