When booking accommodation, we always look to TripAdvisor for reviews of the facility--particularly comments about the hosts--and specifics of the location since we generally do not rent a car.

The reviews proved to be true both of Chalet Blanche and its owners. Debbie and Alastair deserve the plaudits they have received: they were helpful with information about Chamonix/attractions/the weather forecast, reliable in getting us to/from the train station and preparing our breakfast, took an interest in their guests, and were generous. They genuinely care about their guests' experience.

The chalet was very comfortable with cozy sitting areas, a guest kitchen and room thermostats. We appreciated (and used!) the honesty bar and laundry facilities. And the location was very quiet. The views of Mont Blanc and the Bossons Glacier were wonderful, and enjoying a drink on the deck overlooking them was a lovely way to start our visit.

For those travelling without a car, Chamonix and Chalet Blanche are great choices. As mentionned, Alistair provided transportation to/from the train station, and the chalet is within easy walking distance of the town, the cable car to Aiguille du Midi and the train to Montenvers. But there is also a free town minibus which passes not far from the chalet and a valley bus which stops at the corner. Trains and buses in the valley are free with the Carte d'Hote pass provided by the Chalet.

We found that the ice train to Montenvers and the cable car to the Aiguille du Midi (at 3800 meters) can each take up the greater part of a day if you want to take in the sights, do some walks and eat on site. The views are spectacular and not to be missed! At the Plan de l'Aiguille, there is a refuge at about 15 minutes' walk where you can buy food/drinks and eat at picnic tables with a superb view over the valley. And there are many other things to do in the valley. We particularly enjoyed the Alpine Museum which had a number of interesting permanent displays (with descriptions in English as well as French) and a temporary exhibit which also had a comprehensive English hand-out.

Because the weather was inclement for a couple of days, we ate in--no hardship in such a comfortable atmosphere and with take-out from Le Papillon. We can highly recommend both hot dishes and salads from this establishment (a good resource for the train, too). We can also recommend Patisserie Richard and restaurant Le Chaudron.

We spent six very enjoyable nights at Chalet Blanche and highly recommend it.

The chalet was very well set out with plenty of room for eating and lounging around even when full. Debbie and Al seemed quite relaxed and friendly so you felt that you could almost treat the chalet as your own. Al was very good about running people around and (unfortunately) even volunteered to run us into the hospital a couple of times in the week to visit one of our group who had a snowboarding accident. The food was excellent and the rooms were fairly spacious and certainly comfortable.
It is not a bad distance to walk into town and hence to the nearest lifts but Al was very accomodating with rides too. Our group would be very happy to revisit.

I spent a total of four nights at Chalet Blanche this September: three before and one after my tour of Mont-Blanc. I honestly can’t imagine a better home base for me: the chalet is located just outside of town, making it both convenient and peaceful. It is spotlessly clean and comfortable, with access to a kitchen and (so important!) laundry room, which make it very easy to take care of basic needs. But best of all, hosts Debbie and Al are genuinely welcoming, happy to help out with anything, full of good advice and general friendliness. They don’t live on site, but one of them is there at breakfast (which is delicious; eggs a plus!) and they are on-call if something comes up. For me at least, this is the best of both worlds: the personal touch of a B & B yet the independence of an apartment rental. My interaction with the fellow-travellers I crossed paths with was also just right: we could casually touch base at breakfast or talk late into the night in the lounge, as the spirit moved us. If this kind of set-up is what you are looking for (in summer; I can’t speak to ski season, which I believe is different though it sounds great too), I don’t think you will find a better location than Chalet Blanche.

We spent a wonderful week at Chalet Blanche at the start of September. The chalet has excellent views of Mont Blanc and is located a short walk from the town centre. Breakfast was great... cereals, crossants, rolls, juice, eggs, fruit etc, served by our hosts Debbie and Al. The rooms are modern and clean and the hot tub is a great place to relax after a hard days walking. Debbie and Al are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble....home from home. We will return. VC

We stayed here as a family to go climbing and walking in July. The location is convenient, and the arrangement (bed and breakfast, with kitcehn provided) suits this kind of holiday very well. Breakfast is great, and Debbie and Al are attentive without being intrusive, and very helpful with local advice. Having been here 10 years ago, it is just as good, if not better than it was then.
