“Fantastic food - brilliant atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2014

From outside this does not look much of a place - but once in the small restaurant comes alive.

The tables are very very close together; and the menu is a little vast to look at - but once sat down you realise why so many people come back here.

The service from one of the hardest working waitresses I have ever seen is friendly and efficient - effectively juggling many tables and orders at the same time.

The food is the best I've had in Chamonix for a non gastronomic type restaurant - homely, filling and huge portions. The baked dishes - particularly the (sorry can remember name of dish) but pancake with ham baked with rubochin with a salad was fantastic. even the home made burger tasted like non had before.

It is small; and even on quiet night full - but worth the effort visiting - if only to watch the staff working - entertainment in itself and an example on how to make customers feel welcome and valued.

“Excellent and by far the most genuine local restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2014

Book in advance!! We had the chance to have dined at the bar because the restaurant was completely booked. But what a heaven in terms of quality, service and friendliness of the owner and his son: congratulations and keep your original approach! the food is rather basic and the menu is consistent since 30y, but a heaven of taste and quality.

“Fun and friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2014

This spot is fairly small but no doubt you will be enticed in by the hustle and bustle of the two chefs preparing traditional dishes while calling greetings to their local customers across the bar. Food is tasty, tables are cramped together but this all adds to the atmosphere. This along with speedy service and central location warrants a high rating

“Le Bivouac Chamonix.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 January 2014

Very nice smaller restaurant , 266 rue Paccard. Strongly recommended.
Chris and his collegue offers very good food and a nice, friendly athmosphere. Savoyardes specialties but also more international dishes.
During our last visit to Chamonix the first weeks in January we had 3 dinners in Le Bivouac,
always fully satisfied.
Choose local Gamay vine on bottle.
After dinner, it is also nice to stop at the bardisk to chat with Chris a little about what time you should be at the Grand Montets cabin “tomorrow”..

“Great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2014

This is a great place for having a drink, a regular dinner and everything in between.
We were there a number of times january 2014 and had a nice experience every time.
The chef, Chris (sp.?), has a very good command of english and is friendly and helpful with tips on skiing and things to do in Chamonix. The food is great, actually I had meat usually and the entrecote is good. The desserts are generous, try the "Williams" ice cream with pear liqueur!
