Hats off to Colleen and the Collineige team who made out winter getaway to Chamonix so perfect.
Booking a chalet located miles away only based on photographs, while you are a whole continent away in Singapore, can be a really mindbending experience. Especially when there are so many options, and a lot of horror stories of "bait and switch" scenarios. Collineige is a class apart. The experience begins when you speak to their UK team who walk you through options carefully and help coordinate not just your stay, but all the activities around.
We were driven over to the Chalet from our hotel in Geneva, which took about 45 minutes. Chalet Les Tissourds was exactly the way we expected it to be, and even better given the location and the caring hosts who took care of all our requests and made sure we were comfortable. We were only two of us, and felt like we had plenty of space - given the chalet is built for larger groups. Also, Colleen is a terrific source of knowledge about Chamonix, especially having lived in the city for so many years.
Amenities: If you are skiing, definitely make use of the bootwarmer downstairs. There is a lovely screening room in the basement to watch DVDs and relax (bring your own DVDs, or hook up your laptop through HDMI). Wi-Fi in the chalet is good and reliable. There is a spa in the backyard which we used everyday - just perfect on a cold winter day and even more surreal at night. The views of the mountains from the back of the chalet are lovely! The master bedroom in the attic can get a bit chilly at night, so do make use of the mini-heater in the closet. The fireplace is clearly the best part of the chalet, which we used very often.
Location: The location of the Chalet is great. There is a lovely bar and restaurant called The Jekyll which is a 5 minute walk from the Chalet - great evening vibe with live music on key nights. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the funicular to Aiguille Du Midi, and the center of Chamonix. //
From start to finish we were looked after. Welcomed with smiles & plenty of help & advice. the chalet was spotless & the log fire cosy. Easy access to bus routes & short walk into town. Even restaurant & bar at the end of the road are ell worth a visit!
