“Perfect Apartment for a family of 4!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2013

We are currently staying in a 2 bedroom apartment at the Hotel de L'Arve in Chamonix...Would highly recommend as the apartment is light, spacious and has everything you need! Fridge/Freezer is great as the weather is glorious...and the bonus is a big balcony with table and chairs. The only thing lacking is a washing machine..but the hotel have been very helpful and informed me the location of the launderette in Chamonix. Great location for the centre of Chamonix and great views ..also overlooks the river. Big bonus for here is the car parking...we have a Volvo XC60 with a top box so looked for a hotel with "overground" car parking...plenty of room for the car. Would come back here again next time we are in Chamonix.

A friend and I stayed 3 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment at this hotel which we really enjoyed. The apartment had a large lounge/dining/kitchen area with a well equipped kitchen (although we did have to ask for a kettle), and comfortable sofas. The 2 double bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and a large bathroom with great shower. After reading some of the other reviews, it appears that some apartments at this hotel may be on 2 levels, but the one we had was on one level, up one flight of stairs from the parking lot and at the end of the building looking towards the river. Fantastic views of the mountains from our large deck. Although there was a phone in the apartment, it wasn't connected, so because the apartment was in a separate building to the hotel, needed to go outside and walk to the hotel building to speak to reception when we needed help with adjusting the heating in the apartment. Although we didn't require it, there is on site parking. This apartment was great value for money and would be great for families or groups of friends as the sofas can also be converted. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again.

Bonjour,
Thanks for your positive comment about the Arve's apartment,
We are glad that your enjoyed your stay with us in Chamonix,
There is normally a kettle in all apartment...someone might have left with it and the housekeeper did not mention it was missing before your arrival,
The top apartment you probably occupied has a default on the phone line, some works are planned during the autumn to fix it,
As you mention it, some apartments are on duplex and some others are on one floor,
We hope to welcome you again in the future,
Best regards

i thought i was arranging a treat for my travelling companion by booking us into an apartment. We had planned to eat in the hotel restaurant and relax on our terrace with a glass of wine and amazing view as seen on the web site.
Our apartment was brand new, round the back of a block with a view of other apartments and a concrete tower block. The restaurant had closed for a month the night before - i was very disappointed that we had not been told this when i booked - perhaps because i booked an apartment? So my companion and i ordered a drink in the bar, a campari and orange, only to be told this was not a popular drink and perhaps we would like to try something else - something more popular - way to make us feel special!
The apartment was clean and very well designed, but the bed was uncomfortable and although the shower was downstairs with the bedrooms, the loo was upstairs by the kitchen - it was a narrow staircase so not great in the middle of the night. All in all - disapointing

Room Tip: ask what position your apartment is in

Dear Guest,
We are taking good note of your comments and we apologize for the troubles during your stay,
We are sorry that the location of the appartment did not correspond to your expectations, a superior hotel room on the Mont Blanc side with a balcony would have problably suited you better,
Concerning the restaurant, when you made your booking, the restaurant was still open and the decision to close it had not been taken,
Thanks for your feedback and be assured that this will help us to improve our services,
Best regards,
The manager.

We had a great stay! Beautiful place with amazing views of the Alps. The room we stayed in was so nice with a huge patio to sit and enjoy the mountains. The staff was very helpful and had such a cute Saint Bernard just hanging out at the desk. Would definitely stay here again.

This hotel has everything you need but not much more. There are no major negatives, but, apart from the view, nothing to get excited about.

On the positive side, our “superior” room was very large (but the bathroom was a little cramped) with a balcony giving a beautiful view towards Mont Blanc. It is located on the edge of the centre of town and has a good car park.

However, this hotel falls short in a number of details from what I think it is reasonable to expect today from a hotel at this price – for example there is no hair drier in the room (one can be borrowed from reception) and no tissues provided. The breakfast buffet includes all the usual things, but the orange juice available on the first two days tasted like a supermarket budget variety (although on the third day it was good quality) and the one cheese offered was tasteless – a travesty in a country with so many excellent cheeses.

A substantial discount is available for making an early non-flexible booking.

We stayed two nights at this hotel. It took a while for us to locate it as it is tucked away from the main road. If you are coming from the train station, walk straight until you reach a cross junction. When you see a clock, turn right and walk further up until you see a Japanese restaurant on your right. Turn right again and you will see the signage for the hotel. We requested for two superior rooms with view of the mountains. However, we were given the standard rooms instead. To make matters worse, a dead bird was found in one of the rooms! We confronted the hotel front desk and was given a change of rooms, one of them with a balcony. The front desk people are helpful but cold. I prefer the chamber maid who is more cheerful and friendly. Breakfast is good with many choices. View of Mont blanc is awesome when the weather is fine. Other than that, nothing great about this hotel.

This is our 2nd stay at this hotel. 6 years ago, we stayed here as a couple doing some serious spring hiking in the area. This time, we stayed in the 6 person Superior Apartment with our 3 kids ages 12,9 and 2.

The apartments are in a separate building (a few meters from the main entrance to the hotel) and share a common parking lot. Views from our apartment (A4) were fantastic and if the weather had cooperated, the lovely wraparound balcony would make a lovely spot to lounge around with some wine or to have dinner. Lots of windows all throughout the apartment gave us a really airy feel.

The apartments looked recently finished and hence were spotlessly clean.

The apartment was really spacious (2 decent size bedrooms, a toilet, a bathroom, an entryway with ample storage for boots etc and a heating rack, and a large living/dining/kitchen area). With the 5 of us, it never really felt crowded in there during our 4 day stay.

There was ample storage space in both the bedrooms (shelves, closets) and the bathroom/shower was big and impeccable by French standards! Ample linens, bath towels, kitchen towels etc. The hotel even provided additional garbage bags, dishwasher fluid, etc. We thought that a wonderful touch! Post cleaning was included in the price, so this was really a no-bother stay for us!

Since the hotel restaurant was closed for the mid-season (May), we opted to either order-in or cook ourselves. The kitchen was well equipped to cook simple meals including a dishwasher, a microwave, a nice sized oven and a huge fridge/freezer unit! There is a take-out pizza place a few doors down from the hotel (right out of the hotel complex, head away from the center of town) and for about 7-11 euros, you can choose between a few dozen kinds of pizzas.

There are plenty of eating choices within a 2-10 minute walking distance from the hotel. The town center (shopping, information bureau, Maison de la Montagne, etc) is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

Ample and free parking for guests is available in the hotel parking lot (something to be really appreciated in the touristy and cramped center of Chamonix).

There are 2 supermarkets within walking distance of the hotel - the Super U (closed on Sundays and holidays) is just a few minutes walk and the Casino supermarket is in the town center (about 500 meters from hotel) and is open on holidays and Sundays.

If you have a car, the best choice is the Carrefour just outside the town (on your right, as you enter Chamonix) from the highway.

We used the hotel's billiards room for a few games one of the evenings.

The reception desk was always very friendly and helpful with thier tips for hiking in the surrounding area. Given that the weather was really lousy during our stay (snow from 1500 m on because of a bad winter, and wet weather during our stay), we decided to cross over to the Italian side a few times to do some day hikes with the kids in sunny weather with blue skies.

In all, extremely satisfied with the hotel and it's staff. Looking forward to staying here again, but probably in the summer months when more trails are open.
