Alpina Eclectic Hotel
Ranked #64 of 73 Hotels in Chamonix
Reviewed 22 February 2014

The Hotel Alpina is in a great central location to Chamonix -- the bus stop for most ski resorts is right outside the front door and all the shopping and restaurants are just footsteps away. The views of the mountains are spectacular from the hotel as well.
However, it is run down and older. Rooms are small -- our room was only big enough to fit a double bed (they do not offer queen or king size beds). The furniture, bedding and bathroom is all old and out-dated, but works just fine. They have a restaurant upstairs but we never went -- mainly because breakfast was 14 euro -- no a la carte options -- and we thought that was pricey. There are great restaurants just footsteps away. There is no in-room coffee and that was difficult for us because we both enjoy coffee in the morning.
Also there is a "spa" in the hotel, but they really just have a steam room and a sauna, plus a "hot" tub that's actually not vey hot-- only luke warm, so we only used that one time and decided it wasn't worth the hassle after that.
All in all it was a fair price for the hotel. Chamonix is very expensive. Location and views great, but just remember, you pay for what you get.

The shower was amazing, endless hot water and great pressure, great for aching backs and legs if you have been skiing. Comfortable beds, clean and daily bed turn down, clean towels and bathroom clean up. Old fashioned decor very circa 1970s but a great hotel. rooms were very warm but easily cooled down with the door slightly open to the balcony. great views.great location, 2 minutes walk to restaurants shops bank etc. we hired a car but the bus service looked regular and reliable to the slopes. bar area looked lovely. had breakfast but never made it down in time (7-10am) worth booking the underground car park if you have a car. very handy and parking around town was difficult and expensive.

Room Tip: The view over the town was lovely but due to its central location i Imagine any view either side wou...

This hotel is all you need for a 'base' whilst in Chamonix. Location is perfect less than 10 minute walk from some slopes and a bus stop outside to get to the others. Very helpful staff who will give you all the information you need. We had a mont blanc view which was definitely worth the extra cash! Room maids were very attentive although they still enter your room if you're not there even if you have the do not disturb sign on the door! Perfect ski storage downstairs although the spa is a bit to be desired. Its fine but gets quite busy and isnt that big! I cant comment on the food but the drinks were a little pricey! Pool table was a nice bonus :) overall i would stay here again purely due to location and would recommend it to others!

Convenient, clean, good bar, good breakfast, average buffet, great location.

No brainer, but watch the prices! I paid 500 Euro for 3 nights, single occupancy, overlooking Mountain. There was a sign outside the hotel selling rooms for 99 per night!

OK for Brevant and 20 min walk to ski school area. The rest of Chamonix is buses and a pain. No real piste bashing so favours good skiers.

Apres is OK ( visit the Micro brewrey 10 min walk) bar up is good, and Irish coffee place is excellent.

White Hub nightclub not really happening, euro pop!

Town nice, up scale, but pleasant.

However, for me, there really are better places to ski.

We were two couples just staying for a long weekend (Fri - Mon) and this hotel suited us fine.

We had a delux room with a balcony facing Mont Blanc which was fine. The décor is tired but the double bed was ok, had a minibar with glasses and bottle opener. The electric shutters were great and blocked out all of the light which would have been great if we had decided to have a lie-in but we were too keen to get on the slopes.

The bathroom was also decent. Large mirror enough towels and the shower was surprisingly powerful and had hot water whenever we needed it. The toilet was separate to the bathroom. There was enough storage space to hand ski-stuff and put ski boots without this taking up the whole room.

The view was great and the balcony big enough to go and sit on had it been warm enough.

We didn't eat in the hotel but we did use the bar once which was fine. It apparently got quite lively in the evenings but we were always out in the town and so we didn't experience this. The hotel also apparently has a Jacuzzi and sauna but we didn't experience this either. The boot room was fine and there was plenty for room for everyone.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful whenever we had interaction with them. There was never a queue at either the reception or at the bar which was great. One night, the lady at reception booked us a table at another restaurant which had been recommended which was a big help.

The main advantage of this hotel is the location. The free ski bus stop is literally just on the other side of the road and so no carrying your skis for miles after a long day. The town is just on the doorstep too and so we made use of lots of the bars, shops and restaurants whilst we were in town.

Alpina does only deserve the three stars but all in all I would recommend this hotel if you are in Chamonix for the skiing and the town itself. It provided us with all we needed and wanted as a hotel and I would stay there again on that basis.

the best thing going for the hotel is the location and the fact that they have their own underground car park. we stayed for four nights and had a good stay albeit the bedrooms are small and beds very poor and uncomfortable.
Most rooms overlook the square with a view of the mountains but that's not really the reason to choose this holiday.
Meals were good and generally the evening meal was good if not great (we chose half board to take the guesswork out of choosing different restaurants every night).
Overall for a skiing holiday it was a reasonable choice.
the spa and jacussi was adequate and generally used by people unaware of the etiquette (enough said).

Room Tip: sixth floor is the best
