“A beautiful place at the foot of the mountains”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2011

When I was organizing our two day trip to the Alps, I really wanted to stay in Chamonix. But all the hotels were full, and those that were not were over 400 euros per night. So I looked around a bit more and found Les Grands Montets near Chamonix.

I am so glad we chose it. It was actually nice to drive away from the busy town of Chamonix to the incredibly quiet little village where this hotel is. The hotel is very well maintained, very clean and the hosts are incredibly gracious. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, with Alpine charm. The pool was super clean and fun for the kids, and the hot tub had a gorgeous view. OUtdoor chaises on the terrace overlooking the mountains, balconies with chairs, this place was great.

The thing we loved the most: the breakfast. I have stayed in dozens and dozens of places throughout France, but the breakfast at this place is hands down one of the top 3 I've ever had in Europe. They had EVERYTHING and then some. Homemade jams, honey from the region, meats, cheeses, breads, cereal, fruit salad (delicious), yogurt, coffee, hot chocolate, the list goes on and on. It was so exciting to get up in the morning and enjoy this INCLUDED breakfast.

I highly recommend for any trip to the Chamonix area!

we stayed there 6th - 13th Aug. The hotel is an excellent blend of old world charm with modern facilities. A traditional lounge area with comfy chairs, modern bar area, traditional dining room and modern spa facilities including gym, sauna, steam room indoor pool and jacuzzi. All the communal areas were spotlessly clean and the staff were very helpful and attentive offering advice on restaurants and hikes as well as organising lift passes. The best rooms are at the back of the hotel as they have views of Mont Blanc. Ours was at the front but still had nice views of mounains. The rooms are very comfortable, well appointed and massive panoraminc wingows so you can always take in the view. The only minor disappointment with our room, 207, was that it only had a hand held shower over the bath. Other than that couldn't fault the room for decor or comfort. When we arrived we were given the codes for the free wifi and free rail/bus passes for travel in the valley - brilliant - you can nip into Chamonix without having to worry about parking. The hotel is ideally situated for trips to Italy (Aosta - walled medieval city) - return via Switzerland over the St Bernard pass, Annecy about an hour - take the segway tour and Evian to see the lake. Things you must do - L'Aiguille du Midi and the panoramic cable car from there to Italy. Les Grand Montets - cable car right behind the hotel - lets you get out onto the snow & much less crowded than L'Aiguille du Midi. And make sure you use the spa facilities.
Overall excellent hotel, excellent location, excellent holiday

Room Tip: Try get a room at the back as they overlook Mont Blanc

After a long days walk on Tour du Mont Blanc, we did not arrive here until very late in the day. The rooms were reasonably sized, and ours opened onto a large terrace looking toward Mt Blanc. Nice bar and guest lounge. Friendly staff. Excellent evening meal. And, a wide choice for the continental breakfast in the morning.
Only complaint is that there was only a hand held shower over the bath (meaning there was no point to fix it too!) . End result was water everywhere in the bathroom.

Stayed here on stage 10 of the TMB and this was by far the best accommodation. The rooms were lovely and there was a pool, jaccuzi, steam and sauna room. Staff were very helpful and rang our previous hotel when we left something there and also did some washing for us. Can't recommend this place enough. Don't know why it doesnt have 5*.

We stayed for one night but wished we could of stayed longer. The chalet was lovely, get a mountain view room the view is well worth it and the room was lovely. The swimming pool and hot tub were put to good use by us. Would definitely return here. If you go out for dinner make sure you go right into the town and do not stop at the first place you come to there are a few more restaurants past the railway line which are better.

Stayed here for one night in a Duplex room (2 adults and 2 children). Had a wonderful stay. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful room - we upgraded to a esprit de montagne room. Loved the pool and hot tub outside has great views. Breakfast was included and plenty to choose from.

Excellent hotel: Fantastic situation, services, rooms and personnel. The ideal place to relax after a long ski day in Les Montets (chamonix). Charming and relaxing atmosphere, decoration in Alps style. The swimming pool and the outdoor jacuzzi are the best after long rides off piste in Les Grands Montets. Extremely quiet location, you only hear the birds in the morning, although is pretty close to the Telepherique and the parking of the Les Montets resort. I would recommend it to anyone going to Chamonix. However you need a car to go out for dinner as the Hotel does not offer any meal (except breakfast, which is Ok for a 3 star hotel).

Room Tip: Ask for a room oriented to Mont Blanc.
