Chalet Les Jumelles
Reviewed 29 July 2014

We stayed in the chalet Jumelles several times, both winter and summer... Quality is always the best, and the winter ski advice on conditions was always perfect. When we quickly needed some equipment, the team recommended the best material and shops, where we were treated like VIP's... Thanks for the great food and making our trip the most efficient and problem free ever. Clean, polite and views of the Mont Blanc that were perfect. Everything was to the HIGHEST standard, we couldn't recommend it more. We'll be back!

We've just returned from 5 days in Chalet Les Jumelles with Jean-Yves and Justine through Ski Weekend.

Of the 10 or 11 chalet ski experiences I have had this has been far and away the best. Both Justine and Jean-Yves are experienced in the hotel industry and it shows. Justine's food is top notch, it really was like eating in a high class restaurant every night, and Jean-Yves' hospitality gives you the comfortable feeling that everything is taken care of at all times.

The chalet is immaculate - a very nice building and well cared for. If you were doing independent transport the location is not ideal as it is not immediately next to either the town or the slopes, but this seems to be par for the course in Chamonix (which is not a typical ski resort) and is rendered a non-issue by the reliable and flexible minibus shuttles to the slopes provided by Ski Weekend.

I have attached some photos of our room and the communal areas of the chalet to show that the ones provided by Ski Weekend have not been taken at careful angles to give a misleading impression of the quality of the chalet as you find with some holiday details.

There are not enough superlatives to describe our 5 day ski break at Chalet Les Jumelles in Chamonix. The booking process was easy and had no hidden extras like transfers to and from the airport, ski carriage on the aircraft or even a chalet hosts day off (costing even more to eat out). From the moment we arrived at the Chalet, despite us being exceptionally early, we were treated to five star service. Justine our chef and hostess downed tools to immediately offer us hot chocolate, mulled wine or something stronger. She showed us to our room which was already ready and facilitated us getting out on the slopes within the hour. Jean-Yves our host, driver and fixer of any beverage we wanted, is a perfect gentleman - patient, charming and accommodating no matter what. Nothing was too much trouble and we had the wonderful feeling of knowing we were in safe hands. Russell, the ski technician, completed the team at Chalet Les Jumelles. His competence and knowledge of every part of the ski experience from advice on which type of skis to use, to which ski areas were suitable and the best restaurants to eat in, was such a bonus. At all times one of the team was only a phone call away and genuinely could fix everything!
The food Justine served in the Chalet can only be described as michelin starred, such was the quality, but with true hungry person sized portions! We had, quite possibly, the best beef wellington we have ever tasted let alone the fish pie, the terrine starter and the chocolate desserts.
Breakfast included cereals, pastries, fresh bread, fresh orange and apple juice as well as eggs cooked to perfection, cheese and pancetta. I could go on and on but the truth is I couldn't do Justine and Jean-Yves justice. The chalet is beautiful, a roaring fire and fresh cake awaits every hungry skier in the afternoon followed by canapés and cocktails. There is a sauna to ease tired muscles and all the bathroom facilities are well appointed. The bedrooms are bright and airy and even have windows that can open. The balcony has a wonderful view of Mont Blanc and the Chalet itself is quiet and peaceful. To top our trip off the other guests were so delightful we all spent our evenings enjoying each others company and have all become friends. What a magnificent holiday and one that we will never forget. We are about to book another weekend this season and next year will book a full week to return to our capable and accommodating hosts in the most exquisite Chalet Les Jumelles. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Tessa B

Room Tip: The top floor has larger rooms and good wifi reception.

Having spent a wonderful weekend at Chalet Jumelles last winter we have just booked to go back again in January and remembered how great the stay was. The cooking was superb, the welcome was warm and the service from the resort team was first class. Snow was great and we will be looking forward to Chamonix again this year!

We've stayed at Chalet Les Jumelles twice now, once in winter, fully catered, and once in summer, self-catered with a group of our friends. The staff, Sue and Gavin were all really friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to accommodate my endless questions about mountain restaurants, best ski locations and weather!

We really enjoyed both experiences; firstly being fed with amazing food by Stef and Andy, dropped at the slopes to try and work it all off, and then being able to relax in the evenings. We rented a room on this occasion and the other couples /families that stayed were lovely. Dinner together was always fun and we had a great time skiing with them on some of the days. Our favourite was when Ski Weekend drove us and the other guests through to Courmayeur as this was where the best weather was on the day, and for lunch they had arranged for us to stop at Maison Vieille; yes, we did seem to spend a lot of time eating and drinking, but it was still second to the skiing!

We took a group of friends out in summer and spent most days walking, hiking or down at the rock climbing site 3 minutes walk away. Evenings were typically wine filled with BBQ after BBQ in the sun on the porch. It has amazing views over Mt Blanc which is equally impressive in summer and winter. It is even more fun when you are trying to spot your friend and Gavin amongst all the paragliders as they spin round and round; unfortunately he (the friend, not Gavin) got a little motion sickness, but still loved the views!

The chalet room are well kitted out, each with en-suite showers/baths and the living/dining room was spacious and accommodated all of us easily. The kitchen was really well stocked with everything we needed and even though the nearest bakery for our morning croissants is a 3-5 min drive away, it was well worth it; we would also recommend what we called the "black" bread with some honey and comte cheese, yum!

I would recommend hiring a car in summer, which I would do if staying in Cham anyway, as it means you can get around in your own time rather than waiting for the buses. The walk into town is really easy and you have to pass a beautifully cold water spring, which is well worth it to fill your bottles up. We didn't need one in winter as the Ski Weekend staff pick you up to and from the slopes, which is most definitely a treat as I would hate to try and find a park at the lift bases.

If it is possible, get up to Les Houches for the most amazing regional meal at Les Vieilles Luges. Ski Weekend arranged for us to snow shoe up in winter for dinner and we walked up for lunch in summer. I love the snow shoeing as it just adds to the charm of the whole experience. Beware though, you might be a little tipsy coming down...

We're looking forward to going back for this winter, fingers crossed for good snow!
