Le Refuge des Aiglons

We booked into Les Aiglons for a long weekend, and on arrival, I must confess I was disappointed to see the Best Western sign outside, something I had not realised on booking. The only other disappointment I was to have during the 4 days was the dull beige corridor leading to the room, giving a cell block appearance. A lick of brighter paint would work wonders here! Once inside, the rooms were bright and airy, and spotlessly clean. Our superior twin overlooking the pool, and with superb views up the valley was perfect. The standard room allocated to number one son ovelooked the road, and had a slight smell of cigarette smoke.

Staff were very friendly and service excellent. Breakfast was good, and there was an option of indoor or outdoor seating. The pool area and pool were clean, though on a hot summer evening after a day of walking, the 35degree hot tub was overpowering.

The hotel claims green credentials, and "carbon balance". Among the many environmental measures are wood chip boilers for the heating, recyclable bottles, low flow plumbing and awareness training for staff. Staying in an area like the Chamonix Valley, with man encroaching ever more the the delicate balance with nature, it is good to see a hotel taking such steps, and this in itself will encourage many to return.

Room Tip: Choose pool side, as these have a view up the valley as opposed to overlooking the town.

Great value hotel. It's clean, tidy and staff are welcoming.
The location is great with views up to Mont Blanc. The pool and saunas are well maintained and a great bonus to the hotel. Room was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. It was our second visit to this hotel in two years and hopefully we shall be making a third soon!

An excellent value, particularly toward the end of the high season for skiing. Clearly, this room at the end of the hall had lots of extra space for ski equipment. The location is ideal for those driving in by car, being close to the main road and ample space for (no extra charge) parking. The buffet breakfast and dinner were good enough to be a borderline decent value, but at the cost it was pushing it. That said, their are sufficient options within a short walk that eating out isn't a big headache. Rooms are well kept, and the service is very courteous, ready to field all questions related to skiing options and making some good recommendations in this instance. The spa is a nice option to have available, and the turkish bath and sauna are big enough not to be cramped with apres skiiers around, but if you think you'll be able to cram into the hot tub in the late afternoon, you'd better enjoy rubbing up on all sort of strangers.

Good value for money and very close to downtown Chamonix. The room was a bit small but very serviceable and the hotel staff were very helpful for information on train and bus connections.

Didn't stay here but went along for the lunch and spa deal. €22 for main with a starter or dessert and access to the spa.
We sat on the terrace as it was a nice sunny day. The food was quite fancy but not very well prepared. The potato mash that came with the cod was lumpy and was swimming in oil.
The lumpiness was not one-off as my partner had the same main course. They also did something a little odd, my partner had a starter and main and I had main and dessert. Instead of bringing out the courses in order (i.e. starter then mains then dessert) they brought out her starter with my main and then her main with my dessert.
Afterwards we had access to the spa so we enjoyed a swim in the outdoor heated pool with views of the Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc. There is also a Sauna, Steam room and Jacuzzi.

It is a good place to go if it is a bad weather day or you want a day off from skiing and rest your muscles. The price is pretty reasonable but I got the feeling we were not valued customers at all.

Great service, crisp clean modern rooms, nice pool and spa facilities, fantastic location with lovely views of Mount Blanc and a two minute stroll from the shops and bars (which I felt was far enough away from the noise with our young family) slight negatives (if any are worth noting!) breakfast is quite expensive if like us you had a room only booking and the pool didn't open until 10:00 a.m. so no early bird swims. Overall the hotel provided exceptional value for money and in my opinion is worthy of more than it's three star rating.

We stayed in February for 4 nights on a skiing trip.

The rooms were very nice and large by french standards with free wifi in the room.

The outdoor pool was very nice even in February, with a view of the sunset over Mont Blanc from the jacuzzi.

We only ate in the restaurant for Breakfast and this was very nice with a large selection to choose from.

The hotel is located 20 meters from Chamonix sud bus stop which is great for all of the ski slopes with buses leaving every 10 minutes or so. Its a 5-10 minute to walk into town but for a nice meal the Jekyll pub next door to the hotel does excellent food at a good price.

There are plenty of places to eat and drink in Chamonix and most are good value unlike other ski resorts with a pint of beer around 5 euros and wine at 3 euros for a large glass,
