Want a charming hotel with a great location in Chamonix? This is it. Rates are reasonable, the breakfast is quite good and the adjacent bar/restaurant is quaint and nice as well. A good place to come back to after whatever activities you have done during your day. Annie, the manager, is personable and very helpful. People watching from the outdoor cafe/bar is a must. So is the yoghurt and baguettes served at breakfast. Everyone was nice and helpful (the bellman refused my money after carrying my bag downstairs- that was a first:) even filling water bottles for me. Can't wait to return to this little gem.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bathtub.

Nice hotel with character.
Bedrooms varied. Our party had modern rooms, mostly with bath but some only wetrooms. Rooms lacked shelf space. Mont Blanc view rooms also overlooked railway station and road, neither of which caused a noise problem. Brevant view rooms were looking over back of hotel, very quite.
Although the bar was one of main apres ski bars, very busy and noisy during this period, but was quiet come time for sleep. Noise was only from other inconsiderate quests.
Meals were well presented and tasty. Restaurant staff always pleasant and accomodating.
Most quests appeared to be from Scandinavia, but were all English speaking and happy to exchange experiences.
Boot room was good size but not heated.

Work out bus route as soon as possible as position of hotel is not near lifts.

Great hotel. Rooms are small but modern and clean. Can't remember our room number, but it was on the first floor. It had a large bathroom, more space there than in the main room. Small balcony overlooking the train station, and above it Mont Blanc. Nice and helpful staff.

This hotel has a very popular afterski with live music. Unless you want to join the festivities, the music is so loud you can sing along in the room. But it didn't bother us, it also wasn't playing very late. I don't think the floors above could hear anything so try to get a room on a higher floor if you want a quiet room.

Good location, not at the very center (should have been quiet, if not for the thin walls).
Service is good I suppose, the thing is we didn't need much service, but the receptionist was cheerful. Every other time the room key failed to work - she would come and open the door for us. Not sure how she could leave the reception empty, but she did.
Breakfast was bad, not much there and coffee mugs dirty + walnuts black.
Rooms were very dirty, it was a male teenager cleaning the rooms. Not sure what they were thinking.
We could hear noise from upstairs, people walking and talking.
Hairdryer did not work long enough to dry hair - stopped every few minutes and needed a 10 minute rest before it would start again.
No wardrobe, just a few shelves. This is harder with ski clothes.
Shower did not have any separation, water water everywhere.
No thanks, I would never go back.

Hotel is standard european hotel; the lobby and bar were really nice. Rooms were small but we were happy to have a window with a small balcony looking out towards the Aigille. Location was right next to the train and bus station so it was very convenient if you plan to arrive that way. Then its only about 2 blocks to the main part of town and maybe a 10 minute walk to the Aigille.

Only thing I was disappointed in was the breakfast. They kinda threw some cold items out and that was it. I know we were there in october when it is slow but i'd expect a bit more.

After driving for 14 hours from Kiel to Chamonix it was first lesson learned - never take the route via Martigny over the high pass. Although 70 km shorter than going via Lousanne - Geneva, it took us nearly two hours to cross the alps from Switzerland to Chamonix (at some points we thought we were driving on a trekking route for bikes). After that challenge it was a relief to sleep in a good bed with high comfort. Although there was a noisy birthday party going on in the bar when we arrived, we didn't hear a sound in our room. Since we have spent a lot of nights in Paris hotels, mostly two and three stars, Hotel Gustavia is well above the average three star hotel in Paris, which is reference for a lot of international travellers to France. If we should have any remarks it' would be on the room cleaning which could be better. Also, for someone coming from Sweden interior decoration and furniture gives a flashback to "Svenskt stadshotell" of the 1980's, which means it should be updated.

What makes this hotel outstanding is the food. Quite a challenge for a Swedish hotel in France, we tried ouy some of the other facilities in Chamonix during our stay. There are clearly some establishments that do not deserve any guests; lousy service, lousy food can be bought here as well as in Paris. Hotel Gustavia is a bright star and offers superb food; Scandinavian style with french touch.

Level of services is excellent, the personnell is very serviceminded (we left the hotel at 04:30 am and was offered a light meal package without having asked for it. The night clerk also insisted on making two large coffes for us before we left. Thank heaven for that man...). Language skilled (at least any of the Scandinavian languages, French, English and several others), and lots of proposals on what to do. With only about 10 000 inhabitants, it's not Paris. You have to love outdoor life if you go here. If not doing anything else, take at least the teleferique to Aguille du Midi, it's worth every cent of the 41 euro it cost to come up to 3842 meters (but beware of the stairs on the top, if you're not used to the height you will suffer from the lack of oxygene at this level)

Just got back from 7-days boarding holiday with my friends and what a joy it was to stay in the Gustavia. The food was supreme: the highest quality produce, delivered to the table by the delightful staff and prepared by a chef best described as a genious. The bar was the busiest in Chamonix, crowed during apres-ski through the lure of a live band and reasonably priced drinks.

Okay, the rooms had a bed, cupboard, ensuite bathroom (with hand held showers) and small TV. They were basic, but who cares when you want to be on the mountain or downstairs in the hotel.

Highly recommended and we'll booking our return trip soon.
