“Comfortable place”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2012

The Hotel is a unique place in Chamonix run by Swedish company with all Swedish personnel accomodating a number of Swedish groups. When you come to Gustavia, do not worry about your French, everybody speaks English, also only BBC and CNN channels (so no French TV). We have a got a great rate for €88 euros (last minute) a room in the peak season via Expedia for 2 adults and one child. The room was small is 409, small window, no balcony, but quiet as overlooks the backyard. The cleaning personnel has their cleaning utilities on the floor and start slamming the doors at about 730am. Some rooms are larger and have balconies. The breakfast is basic, but offers good choice of eggs, salami, cheese, muesli and also the table sets sticking to your arms (not properly cleaned, the same in the attached restaurant Chambre Neuf). The whole place is run with Swedish efficiency and calmness. That is a good choice when you are for hiking and outdoor there. Good value for money.

small room on the 3rd floor. Rooms look much bigger on the internet. Bathroom need improvement: after the shower, everything was wet, although there was a curtain. It was clean. No wooden floors, but dirty carpet. Also stains on the covers. Staff very friendly, delicious breakfast (could compose my own serial mmmmm). Restaurant was good, friendly staff, speak French and English. We payed our stay through a travel company, but receptionist said we didn't pay our bill. He felt embarresed. We were asked to leave a phone number. Never heard of the hotel again, so we assume it is all settled. Stunning view towards the mountains. Loud music from cafe at the corner.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable week at the Gustavia. It's across the street from the rail station, and the avenue Michel-Croz is at the heart of all activity. We loved the ambience of the hotel, the staff is very helpful and extremely friendly, the breakfasts filling and good, great coffee, wonderful views out our balcony window of Mont Blanc. We found the hotel clean and very easy to live in. Staff doesn't interfere with you, is accommodating, and very knowledgeable of the area and travel. Great food in the little cafe outside

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony on the upper floors. We loved 405

We followed the reviews in this site, looking for an affordable hotel yet clean and nice with reasonable rooms
We found the reviews here matching what we got:
The stuff here are great, always smiling and willing to help
Rooms where pretty small but clean and maintained in good shape
When we got a complaint about our room, they immediately switched us to another (nicer) room
Breakfast are totally not the expected breakfast in France!
They got very rich breakfast.
Location is good just walking distance from the center of Chamonix.
Very recommended
Just dont tell everybody so they won't ruin the place.
We plan to come back in a couple of years :-)

We were here for a week and had a corner room on the 2. floor. This was very bright room without balcony and although small it was adequate enough for our needs in this skitrip. The furniture and the lay out were nice.

The location is good: there is a popular bar downstairs but I really like the Austrian after ski so Chambre Neuf did not work for me. The hotel is about 400 meters from the ski-bus and town center. I would recommend you to bring earplugs if you wish to sleep - we always do so we had no problems although I am a light sleeper. I think this is quite nice hotel in ambience.

We came with Langley, so we had to pay for the half board. Otherwise I would never choose that option since we love to dine out and taste local delicacies. The hotel restaurant was beautiful and had nice ambience and the service was good, nice young Scandinavians who spoke good English. Breakfast was ok, nothing fancy. The dinners were mostly ok, some were actually quite nice. We dined out twice when we thought the menu did not meet our taste.

Room Tip: If you make your reservation early enough you can choose a room with balcony.

This place is just fantastic, Chamonix is a "must visit"!
I lived at Gustavia on my visit and the rooms are very very nice, the price per room is good and the hotelbar is just not any bar... its Chambre Neuf! Best after-ski in the alp that I've been to. Live-band and a good atmospehere. I will stay here everytime I go to Chamonix, thats for sure.

We loved this hotel. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable with great views. A great location with a really good restaurant/bar which serves delicious food during the day and is a really lively apres ski destination with a young crowd and live music. Breakfast was very good, staff were very friendly. We would definitely recommend it and would return. Much preferred it to the more modern, characterless hotels nearby.
