Very dated hotel with holes in the wall, damaged carpets and damaged furniture.

Very weak security, no safety deposit box in roooms. Was asked to leave the key at reception at all times but when I came back one afternoon was told that they didnt have it and that we never handed it in. Knowing that I did i try to stressed the point. I asked if the key could have been given to someone else which I got a shrug. I made the point that as the reception staff changed regulaly, anyone could walk into the hotel and ask for a key and they would just hand it over which I got another shrug. In the end I searched in the key cabinet myself and it was there. Even though it was there fault I struggled to get an apology.

Lastly, the breakfast was very very poor. Continental breakfast usually has a selection of hams and cheeses. All they had was one type of cream cheese and garlic sausage ham - horrible.

Lovely hotel lovely location.. and to top it all off lovely staff!
...We visited Chamonix with another couple and our two rooms were on the same floor but facing opposite sides of the building, and each very unique. I would describe the style as shabby-chic boutique; the decor quite obviously needs some TLC to patch it up in places, but it's vintage charm and picturesque setting means it gets away with it and actually feels quite fitting!
Breakfast was the same basic selection every day, but all the staples you need with numerous variations of ham/cheese/bread combinations to be had!! The BYO (boil-your-own) egg scenario was a bit of a bun fight every morning and could take some time if your weren't on guard to stop someone else walking off with your bounty - but the 2 minute walk to the bus stops to the slopes once you were out of the door in the morning soon helped you make some time back. The central positioning of the hotel did however mean it was slightly noisier on a night-time for the room on the front of the building, with people leaving the pubs all hours (note though this was a Christmas/New Years visit so in amidst all the big festive celebrations).
The hotel employees were friendly and colourful characters, who engaged well with their guests and were always more than happy to help where required. Most hospitable :)
All four of us had a lovely stay and would definitely not hesitate in recommending this place as being good value for money.

Arriving at this beautiful hotel which is located a 2 minute walk from the Central Bus Stop, I was welcomed by a charming lady who spoke excellent English. She was not only very happy for me to practice my French with her, but she also gave me great advice about getting around in Chamonix (the busses are a NIGHTMARE here). Her father and brother also work in the hotel and are just as charming. The rooms were clean and comfortable, breakfast was always well stocked with good food. Wifi for the week (only €3) can be accessed in the warmth of the hotel lobby which is a lovely place to meet other people in the hotel. The rooms are secure and views are beautiful. It is a 5 minute walk from "Evolution 2" - an OUTSTANDING ski school which is competitively priced compared with ESF. My Evolution 2 instructor was "Regis" who was extremely professional and spoke excellent English (and happened to be the Director of this company). Evolution 2 can also arrange Husky Rides (Wednesdays) which was well worth the €70. All in all, an excellent week.

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from the town are quieter but it is not a noisy hotel, despite it's excellent...

We looked high and low for good deals on ski trips, settling on Chamonix and Hotel Richemond and weren't disappointed. Hotel Richemond is fairly basic, hence the star rating, but if you're looking for a clean, warm and secure place to stay with very friendly staff this is a good option. Breakfast is decent, the internet in the lobby for 3 euro per week worked fine and the central location would be hard to improve upon. I should also mention the ski bus stop out the back and the daily fresh towels and maid service.

It is quite true that the hotel could do with modernisation but there was certainly a charm to the old building and rooms. Some rooms may be 'better' than others (ours was a little more spacious than our friends') but for the price I think you will be happy. There was noise from the adjoining rooms at times but if you're bothered by that a pair of ear plugs will do the trick. The bed was okay but I'm not a fan of the feather pillows.

In summary, as a budget hotel, Hotel Richemond suited our needs perfectly.

Room Tip: Our friends on the center of fourth floor said they had no problems with noise. We got some noise fr...

Hotel Richemond has an excellent location, just off the pedestrian shopping strip in Chamonix. For those skiing, there is a boot room (not secure, so you need to hire a lock for your skis) and the bus stop to the ski areas is relatively close - around 100 - 200m. We arrived in March 2012 as part of a (very cheap) ski package holiday, and found it a good base for the week.

The staff are very friendly, with multiple generations of the family manning the front desk. Breakfast was plentiful, if a little basic. There is a quirky "boil your own egg" option, which seems to result in about a dozen unclaimed cooked eggs by the end of breakfast. There is no restaurant on site for dinner, but the hotel is conveniently placed for the local Chamonix restaurants.

Our room was large but quite basic and old fashioned. The mattress is probably the worst I have ever slept on in a hotel - lumpy and ancient. The bathroom had a bath with a hand shower attachment - but it really had to be used while sitting in the bath: there was no option to attach the shower head to the wall and no shower curtain around the bath to prevent splashing. That said, the water was plentiful and hot, and it can be relaxing to sit in a bath after a day of skiing, so the lack of proper shower was not too disastrous.

The public areas are run down with scuffed / damaged carpet on the stairs and very dated furniture in the lobby / breakfast room. However, in some respects, this added to the charm.

Overall, a good basic option at a reasonable price - but nothing special. We have stayed in better reasonably priced hotels in Chamonix.

Room Tip: Some of the front rooms have balconies and are larger. However, they have increased noise from the p...

I stayed three nights total at this hotel in Aug 2012, before and after a Mt. Blanc trek. It was delightful. On the main shopping street, but set away from the street up a slight incline (where there is a garden) so relatively quiet. Staff is helpful; breakfasts very nice. I had a room in the back and could see paragliders. Bus stop is right behind the hotel as well. Not for those who want cookie cutter branded hotels, but a very relaxing atmosphere. Just sitting in the several sitting rooms in the lobby or the chairs outside was a delight. When I arrived the front desk gave me all sorts of pamphlets and the valley bus pas.

Room Tip: I asked for a non-smoking room but the room I was given after my trek smelled of cigarettes. The fr...
