My wife and I just visited Chamonix and stayed four nights in Hotel Le Faucigny. Like most Americans, we can't speak French. But that didn't matter. The hotel staff helped us with reservations, gave tips on which mountains to ski, how to get there (important if you plan to ski at Courmayeur), where to eat, and much more. I was impressed with how proactive the staff was. I watched them over and over again solve problems for the guests that they could easily have ignored.
The rooms are small, but you won't be in them often. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are adequate. The hotel has a spa, which we didn't use, but it looks quite nice.
Breakfast is good. and they've got the most unbelievable cookies and other treats at tea time. We met a number of people through the lobby and common area and had a blast in general. My wife and I will be back.
