“Cosy, warm, excellent value and centrally located”
Reviewed 19 February 2011

I stayed here for four nights with my partner on our first ski holiday. The drive from Geneva airport was about 1 hour, we arrived at the hotel right in the centre of town. The reception staff were very helpful and gave us the key to our room. We also enquired about hiring ski lockers (€20 deposit, located in the basement) and ski lift passes which the hotel obtain for us and had ready and waiting for us the next morning before skiing.

The room was on the first floor and overlooked a roof and the rest of the building. You could still see the mountains if you looked up but we were grateful not to be overlooking the square as heard it can be pretty noisy at night. The hotel has been recently refurnished and it shows throughout, it was clean very warm (a bit too warm as we turned the radiators off). The room was a decent size and had a bath and a shower which was great for a soak after skiing. The room also has a fridge/mini bar which was great for storing our salads and ham in when we wanted a snack. There was plenty of storage space for hanging clothes and shelfs/coat hooks which was good for all our ski gear. The beds were so comfortable and we had the best nights (quiet) sleep.

Breakfast was a simple buffet style - toast, pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal and a small hot selection (scrambled eggs, sausage and ham). This was completely adequate and coffee/tea comes from a machine in the corner of the restaurant (all self service). It was quick and no waiting around which was important when you need to be quick to get out in time for the ski bus.

The ski bus stop is located a couple of minutes walk to the left of the hotel which is great when you have your ski boots on. The busses get very busy around 8.30am so be sure to get out early if you want a full day on the slopes.

We didn't use the restaurant as the selection on the menu was a bit limited for us and as being so centrally located there are so many restaurants around the corner. The hotel also has a roof top pool which we didn't use, its open 2.30pm - 7pm (winter time) and also a solarium.

Overall the hotel was a very pleasant surprise, its not a 4 or 5 star luxury hotel but a great hotel that does what it says on the tin for excellent value.

The hotel is located directly across from the Tourist Office and is 10min (walking distance) away from the Aiguille du Midi cable car station and the SNCF train station (yeah don't take a taxi if arriving at the train station - you'll waste 15 euros - if you have suitcases with wheels, its really easy to get to the hotel on foot) The decor is typical of a swiss chalet (no not the restaurant for those living in Canada:)) and creates the perfect atmosphere for a "sejour" in the Alps. But in my opinion the best feature of this hotel (besides the rooftop pool) is the fact that whatever room you are in, you will have a view of one mountain or the other (I was lucky to have my window looking out onto Mont Blanc and the Aiguille - the other mountain is Brévent which is on the other side of the valley). As for the food, I can't say as I chose to eat cheaper (FYI: there is a great bakery - Boulangerie St. Hubert - one door away from the hotel after the movie theatre, that makes great pastries, quiches and sandwiches with very reasonable prices - and the bonus they are open from 6:30am - 7:30pm non-stop). However, they do offer a buffet breakfast @ 10 euros, and their prix fixe menus for lunch and dinner are 15 euros and 22 euros respectively. The staff is friendly and will have no problem keeping your luggage in a separate room after the 11:00am check-out if you want to squeeze in one more ride to the top of Aiguille du Midi or hike another trail before your departure from Chamonix. The price of the rooms is in line with other 3 star hotels (120 euros standard for 1-2 people), but you can definitely get it for cheaper (I paid 88 euros/night - this was based on a 3 night stay promotion they had). I booked through the Tourist Office website, but as a tip, especially if you are traveling by train, check out the website: www.voyages-sncf.com (SNCF is the national train company that operates the TGV and the Ter trains). You can get up to 45% reductions on regular hotel fares - that's what I used for other hotels I booked in France. Anyway, if you stay at the Park Hotel Suisse, you will not be sorry.

This hotel is one of my favourite places to stay in all the ski resorts I've stayed in in Europe. It's a great 3 star hotel.
The building itself looks like an old style alpine hotel, but inside it has been very tastefully refurbished. The restaurant is modern with an alpine feel, and very comfortable. The bedrooms I've styed in have been pretty spacious - the rooms at the back of the hotel have steps leading down into the main bedroom, with a toilet at the top of the stairs and the bathroom at the bottom. Lots of storage space too.
The food is excellent. We went through Thomson travel in the UK and for a package holiday, the standard and level of food is fantastic. This year, the chef prepared a daily appetiser, followed by a great choice of starter, main course and dessert. The only downside is the price of the wines, with nothing under 28 euros a bottle, but if you don't finish it they're happy to keep it aside for you for the next night. There's a great choice at breakfast with a hot and cold buffet. For coffee lovers the machine coffee isn't great but this is just a small complaint.
The staff, without exception, are lovely. All happy to help and very friendly. They help to create a really nice atmosphere in the hotel, which is great after a hard day's skiing!
Finally, the hotel is located in the centre of town, with a very short walk in one direction to the bus stop where you can catch all buses to the slopes, and in the other direction is the main high street, where there are lots of shops, restaurants and supermarkets.
All in all, I recommend this hotel 100%. If the owner is reading, please reward your staff well and don't change anything (except the coffee machine!!!).

Great hotel in a great location for skiing and apres-ski. We did the half-board. The food was great but it took a while because it was quite busy in the restaurant. My baggage was delayed and the hotel staff was very helpful in trying to assist me in getting the baggage and also finding replacement items in the mean-time.

Read the reviews so open minded. Central hotel, well located, rooms ok, very clean and spacious. BUT the food.....4 of us booked half board but regretted it. The hotel rates its restaurant as Michelin, perhaps we misunderstood this for food quality when they meant rubber tyres! The staff are friendly, yes we spotted the Manwell Faulty Towers look alike as mentioned in other reviews! Staff are attentive, dress the part etc but the food was awful. We booked half board for 3 nights, never finished a meal and often had to move the plate away as we felt sick. We've eaten in many restaurants around the world so like to think we are a fair judge. My advice - B&B yes but eat at Chambre Neuf (part of Hotel Gustavia - amazing food, great atmosphere and around 12e a dish - great value for money and excellent food!)

We have just returned from a week at the Park Suisse Hotel which was over the New Year period. The hotel itself is OK, and the staff friendly and helpful. There are no proper public relaxation areas - there are some settees in reception, but as the door is almost constantly open to the outside, it is too cold to relax in and not welcoming. The location of the hotel is excellent, in that it is in the dead centre of the village. If you can manage to not hire a car it would be best, as the hotel car park is 10 euro per day, but it is small so if you havnt booked ahead, as we had not, we could not use it. There is a public car park a bit further up which is 12 euro per day, so this works out expensive. We were lucky enough to find some 24hr free parking on the ring road (close to the hotel) a couple of times, but it is just luck finding a space.
The restaurant is well decorated and welcoming, but the chef needs to spend less time being pretentious in his presentation and more time serving hot food. At best the food was average to poor, normally cold, and was not what was shown on the menu, i.e. substituting chicken for duck, different soup to that shown, etc.
If you have booked half board you have to have the meal of the day. If you go a la carte it is charged and full price, i.e. no discount from what would be charged for your menu of the day. Also, the service is VERY slow. This may have been due to the time of year we went, but it was taking an average of one hour to have the food served. Also, you would be sat at the table for about 15mins before the menus arrived and your drink order was taken.

The bedrooms are very average - if you have a twin room, the single beds are TINY, less than 3 ft, so if you have a leggy wide teenager they have to hang over the edge. The beds were comfortable enough, but the pillows were terrible. The rooms were also unbearably hot, and you are unable to turn the radiator off, so we slept on top of the bed most nights. The shower is part of the bath, so if you are anything more than average size its a bit of a tight squeeze.
The hotel charge for the sauna (I think it was 10 euro), and to use wi-fi internet it was 5 euro per hour! Having said that, it wasnt working when we were there. The hotel also charge for everything, so if you want a quick cup of coffee, it goes on the bill.

Nothing to do with the hotel but the euro conversion rate of £1 to 1 euro, a six day ski pass for family (2 adults one child) was 580 euro, and ski hire for 2 children was 340 euro!!

Chamonix ski runs have very few on-piste restaurants - we went over to Courmayer for the day and there was a restaurant on every bend, so if you get the unlimited ski pass you can ski there too (although to get through the mont blanc tunnel cost 45 euro!

There are loads of shops in the town, but at the moment they are too expensive to shop in. A pint of lager was 7 euros, a can of coke 4 euros, a bowl of soup 9 euros!

A hotel which did look lovely which we turned down first was the Club Med - beautiful building, dont know what it was like inside, but wouldnt go to the Park Suisse again.
