“Horrific disaster ”
Reviewed 2 March 2014 via mobile

Let me begin by being very clear. If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel for a FAMILY vacation with young children, this hotel would be great for you. Unfortunately, I was on a romantic ski holiday with my girlfriend and our stay was an epic fail.
We were told that when we arrived at the train station we were to call the hotel for a taxi. After the 5th try and 40 minutes of waiting in the freezing cold, we had to walk to a bar to call us a taxi. The hotels explanation was that their phone wasn't working... Seriously?
Then check in took 30 minutes because they had the reservation under my girlfriends name and couldn't figure that out since the reservation number was from orbitz.
The rooms were great and very clean and the lobby had tons of activities for children. The main problem was the spa, or any public area in the hotel, because children were everywhere!!! There were kids screaming and running around the pool. Jumping and splashing unsupervised in the hot tub and opening and closing every door in the of the steam and sauna rooms. Great for families looking to entertain their kids but crappy if you're an adult looking to relax.
Lastly, unless you're planning on doing very advanced skiing, u take the ski bus and the hotel isn't that close to the restaurants and shops. It's not meant for couples!

Dear Sir,

We have reviewed your comments and your unsatisfaction raise a few remarks. The title of your post states that the hotel is a disaster whatever the subject, to which we do not agree.

If the hotel did not meet your expectations, for which we are sorry, it does not mean that facilities and service are a disaster.

The description of the hotel and the facilities offered are available on all communication means and websites we are listed on. Family rooms and kid's corner make it clear that families can gather in the hotel, mostly during school vacation.

We do agree that the spa is a place to relax and do our best to hold people (parents and kids) responsible.

As for the telephone issue, we did have a shutdown and apologize for the inconvenience.

On your arrival, as we were not able to track your booking, asking you if it had been made on a different name (to which you said no), we accomodated you any way. Three hours later, you call the front desk to apologize as you acknowledged that the booking was on a different name.

Based on your needs, we would recommand to choose smaller properties like our two sister hotels (Hôtel Le Faucigny and Hôtel de l'Arve) which capacity to welcome families is limited compared to the Heliopic.

We thank you for your understanding.

Was unsure what to expect from such a new hotel but do not worry, this place is a gem. Here goes:

Location
Adjacent to the Aguile du Midi lift which is more to sightseeing of Mont Blanc as opposed to skiing. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Main Street and is super easy to get in and out of (we were driving). Away from the noise but close enough to the action.

Rooms
Had a standard room and were very very happy. Spotless, large bed, balcony, nicely appointed bathroom. Safe in room, nice linens and towels.

Food
Only had breakfast which cost an extra €15 per person but it was well worth it. Good selection of the usual foods.

Public areas
Obviously all still new but thoughtfully done, spacious and lots of nice seating to socialise and enjoy a beer.

Spa
Spacious pool, sauna, two steam rooms, hot tub, ice room, ice bath, lots of showers, fluffy towels. Didn't use any of the spa treatments but as a place to relax it was perfect and never too busy.

Other stuff
Large underground garage for the car.

Ski rental and storage on site along with ski pass provision.

All staff very helpful.

Overall a very nice hotel where would certainly return.

The hotel is brand new, with nice lobby area for drinks&socializing, kids area to play.
Free wifi & underground parking, good ski rental inside the hotel. Good breakfast.
Downside: you have to take either your own car or the bus to reach the slopes.
If you have the chance go ski in Courmayeur, to close to miss.

We stayed for 5 nights at the hotel in a family room with our two children (ages 3 & 5). Everything was amazing at the hotel. The rooms were great for a family - the kids loved the bunk beds and it was great having a balcony to get some fresh air. The rooms are not massive but you generally don't spend a lot of time in them anyway. The hotel reception area and bar/ lounge was great too - there was something there for everyone with great views and access to the front and back of the hotel. The pool and spa area was fantastic and much appreciated after a days skiing. They were welcoming of children but did request that they weren't too rowdy as it was a place for relaxation. Given it was school holiday week - the pool was pretty overrun by kids anyway! It was extremely well equipped. We were also able to rent our skis etc. from the little ski shop. The prices were very reasonable and it was so convenient to be able to dump them off at the end of the trip. Breakfast was great, the little deli downstairs was very useful too. The staff were great - we had a small problem which was dealt with extremely professionally by the manager and other staff members. I think they really went above and beyond and for that I am very grateful. We arranged a babysitter one night and it was one of the receptionists which is always very comforting! On the whole, I would definitely stay again and would recommend it to anyone.

If visiting chamonix look no further l'heliopic is the place to stay new hotel modern bright and cheery relaxing lounge bar area all open plan young kids playroom plus free sweet dispensers the ski shop is excellent with brand new equipment to hire and free lockers to store ,they also have a range of gloves hats socks and goggles etc to purchase . Don't waste time queuing for lift passes the hotel reception can arrange them for you along with ski lessons and transfers to and from the airport we stayed in a family room which had loads of space the boys bunk beds were great built into the wall crisp white bed linen luxury toiletries provided and a hair dryer an easy to operate safe also a DVD player there are DVD's you can take to your room free of charge but maybe better to bring your favourites
from home there is a good choice for breakfast cold and hot options and plenty of it after a hard days skiing relax in the bar area or go to the spa I would also like to mention without exception all the staff are second to none nothing was a problem and always happy , the hotel is right next to the L'Aiguille du Midi cable car and your ski pass gets you on that for free you are right in town so location could not be any better , all buses are free with your lift pass if no lift pass approx 1.50 euros and they transfer you to all ski areas you will not be disappointed with the L'Heliopic

Highly recommend the place. Quality hotel for reasonable price. If you are skiing the nearby cable car station unfortunately is not the one you need; you will have to take a bus to Chamonix or La Praz stations across the other side of the resort. I also suggest getting the ski pass from reception to avoid the crowded counters at the cable car stations. Good choice of rental skiing equipment at the hotel's shop for very reasonable price. Overall good choice. The only down are the ski slopes - French seem to never machine groom the slopes therefore I recommend to take the Mont Blanc tunnel and try Courmayer in Italy. 51 Euros return and 30 min by car from the hotel.
