“Great stay, excellent location.”
Reviewed 29 December 2012

Stayed here for a week in December 2012 with my wife and 2 kids - a teenager and a 3 year old. It's essentially a studio flat with limited space but extremely functional and clean. Location close to everything - supermarket, ski rental and ski bus all within a 3 minute walk, as well as a modern bowling alley with arcade games, pool/billiards and indoor mini golf. Restaurants and the main shopping/entertainment strip in Chamonix close by as well. Reception staff were extremely helpful though note that they are only there at set times every day. It was great for a family and we enjoyed the stay. We would definitely stay again.

A price-performance ratio better than Pierre & Vacances La Rivière very likely can not be found in the Chamonix area. My and my two teenager children stayed there in week 8 of 2011 (then named Résidence Maeva La Rivière), and it was a welcoming, well-maintained and perfectly functional apartement hotel situated on the river, calm yet very close to shops, ski-bus and fair-price parking garage underneath the hotel or free all-week parking just across the street (elsewhere impossible to find in the village).
The reception is well manned and the staff, unlike so many Paris-style others in this village, is very professional and nice to guests regardless of nationality :)
The favorite skiing and boarding is no doubt found at Grands Montets, but we went for two full days exploring Courmayeur off-pist (south-side is the best) as well as the prepared pist system, and that was a top-of-the-league experience - plus the italians are really fríendly people :)

Room Tip: Rooms facing north (river side) have nicer view but south side are the calmest (Cham is commercially...

There were 3 of us staying in a 4 person apartment. Essentially it's a studio - as you come in the door there is a bathroom on your right and bunk beds on the left. Through another door is the main lounge/kitchen area which has a double sofa bed. We had a 4 person dining table, 2 hobs, a microwave, good sized fridge, dishwasher and 4 sets of crockery. There was also a good stash of saucepans, frying pan and cooking implements.

Pros - you can see the ski bus from the front door (1 min walk), there is a supermarket round the corner, few pubs, restaurant etc in Chamonix Sud 'village' area.

Cons - if you are not out in the evenings it's a little bit small. I found the beds ok but if you are a fan of bedding watch out! Each bed comes with a pack of 2 sheets and a pillowcase. Then there is 1 blanket per bed in the apartment. The heating was adjustable so mostly we were not cold. Only other issue was that if you have adults in the bunk beds you are always walking past them to get in or out. Wasn't a major problem for us but if you like a bit of privacy then in might be worth upgrading to the next size up with a bedroom.

As with other reviews - the bathroom floor is easily soaked and there are no towels etc. Otherwise it was fine - didn't need to speak to staff so can't comment on that size of it but seemed fine and close to ski shops/boots and main Chamonix centre (about 5 mins walk)

I would stay there again and maybe take more evening games (we were forced out on the beer instead!) and an extra blanket :o)

Room Tip: We were in 210 which overlooks the river rather than the Chamonix Sud 'piazza' type space wh...

If you want good value for money, this is definitely the place to be. It's really clean, good quality furnishings, and you get all the amenities in a great location.

Me and my other half stayed in a 2-4 bedroom apartment. I have to say for two its perfect, but it would be a tight squeeze for four people. For self catering accomodation they give you everything you need to do all your cooking. There's no oven, but unless you're desperate to make pies, lasanges and bake cakes I don't think you'll need one.

Bathroom is small and as previously stated by others you'll struggle to have a bath if you're over 5ft5. The mattresses aren't the best in the world but then for budget accomodation you can't expect a luxury mattress.

The location of the hotel is perfect, the main 'Chamonix Sud' bus stop is right outside which takes you to any of the 6 main resorts, the supermarket is a 3 min walk (you could just see it from our apartment), and the main street is also just a 3 min walk away just across the river.

Definitely worth it!

Room Tip: When you book, if there are two of you make sure you ask for a room with a balcony, especially if yo...

We were in Chamonix for a weeks skiing in February 12.
The hotels location is excellent, easy to get to, a short walk to patisseries, supermarket, the bus stop and into the main street.
The hotel is really an apart-hotel - it doesnt have a restaurant / bar etc (each room is self-catering), but everything you need is close by. It is very good value for money and very clean.
However the beds are terrible - i wouldnt be exagerating by calling it the worlds most uncomfortable bed!!
only down side is having to pay E8 to hire a towel..and another E8 if you want another fresh one!

In balance tho i would recommend - for value for money and location its perfect for the avid skiier..

Room Tip: same as other reviewers - cloose one of the larger rooms..

I spent a week in this accomodation and as it was at the budget end of the market, I was not expecting much.
The room was a good size, the bunk beds were suitable for kids/teens and the kitchen was well equiped.
The bathroom was good enough, but don't expect a relaxing soak in the bath if you are over 5ft tall as you will only ever get, at the most, 50% of your body submerged at any one time.
The location is pretty good, a short walk into the town centre and and even shorter walk to the buses serving the various pistes, there are also local bars and a supermarket (although it is overpriced compared to the larger one in town).

However, I have to rate this accomodation as poor due to the simply dreadful sofa bed which was nigh on impossible to sleep on (and I am pretty good at sleeping where I lay). It was noisy, uncomfortable and I had to go begging at reception for a blanket as they only provided one each for the bunk beds.
By the sounds of it, the neighbours had equally unpleasant sounding sofa beds.
On check out day, I did actually notice a number of people with air mattresses so I assume that this is well known by more regular visitors to the apartments.

Check in was a disaster, the family in front of me were immediatly provided with a room (at about 1.30pm) yet I was told I needed to wait until I was texted by reception, with nowhere safe to leave luggage and ski/board equipment. I eventually gave up and returned at 5pm and was told by one receptionist that the room was still not available. Yet when I asked another one less than a minute later, the room had been ready for quite a while. Had I waited for the text message from reception, my family and I would have been waiting untl 5.30am, thankfully due to the bed, my sleep was not interrupted by this early morning text message.

When you consider that check out is at 10am, it is ridiculous that rooms are not available until after 5pm, and that there is no access to a store room for luggage, which is rather valuable once you take into account the equipment you take.

If you do stay at this place - for the sake of your blood pressure, family relationships and general sanity, TAKE AN AIR MATTRESS - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SLEEP ON THE SOFA BED
And don't bother turning up before 5pm on your check in day!

Just back from a weeks snowboarding holiday in Chamonix.

We booked the Riviera Apartments though Crystal Ski and to be honest were not expecting much when we did as the price was so low for the holiday.

We were all pleasantly surprised by the quality of the accommodation here, there were 3 of us on the holiday and we were put in a room that would have comfortably slept 4-5. We were in room 205, I would recommend if you get the chance to book a specific room number go for either 105, 205, 305 etc as these are the larger rooms which have an extra bedroom and shower room (great for when getting ready to hit the slopes in the morning!). The kitchen was well equipt and the fridge massive for a SC apartment. My only gripe is that the bathroom floor had a tendancy to get VERY wet after a shower as the shower curtain was tiny. The heating worked and there was ample sheets and blankets for the beds. Remember to bring your own towel though as these are not provided and cost 8EURO's each.

The apartment is located a short 2 minute walk to the nearest bus stop and there are a few bars/restaurants only 5 minutes away.

Overall, we were very impressed with what we got for the money we paid. If you are looking for a more luxurious place to stay this is not for you but if you are on a tight budget, this place ticks all the boxes!

Would happily go back to the Riviere Apartments in the future!!!

Room Tip: Go for one of the larger rooms (104/105, 204/205, 304/305, 404/405...these are a bit larger and have...
