The Maeva group have 3 or so residences all within close proximity in Chamonix and the reception is all run from the one building. Upon check-in, we were not even told or shown where our building was and when we asked, we were brushed off with a general wave in the direction of where the building was and left to trudge around the icy footpaths of the street in the dark to find our poorly labelled building (That our taxi transfer drivers both had difficulty locating for arrival and departure) . Upon check-out, which was unnecessarily early at 10am, given that you must take out all your own rubbish and do your own bed-stripping (and carriage back to the main hotel) cleaning and vacuuming, we requested at reception to be able to leave our luggage somewhere as our flight was not til night time. We were spoken to so incredibly dismissively and rudely in being told that there was nowhere to leave it and we could find somewhere ourselves if we chose; that luggage was our responsibility was delivered in shocking and harsh tones. We found a little nook of the reception floor to reluctantly leave our luggage and upon return in the afternoon could not even get back into the building as the reception was closed and the code-operated front door was locked. Eventually, a returning guest let us through, but very reluctantly so, to allow us to grab our luggage . I am a kind and smiley visitor to any location and treat people with kindness and respect at all times. I have never been on the receiving end of such service and from two separate staff between check-in and out. I would not recommend this establishment or chain to anyone. I paid very hard-earned money to be on a holiday and felt very upset at such outwardly hostile treatment.

this hotel is resonably priced and you get what you pay for. If you are in chamonix to ski all day and mainly have a place to sleep, this is the place. It's situated right next to the bus stop in Chamonix Sud which makes it real easy to get around. It's not big, and not fancy, but it's what you want..

Myself and two other mates have just returned from these apartments. Apparently the room slept three to five but when we went in I thought there was a mistake. The room was really tiny. From trade descriptions point of view the room apparently had a twin bedroom and two sofa beds and a further pull out bed. In reality it had one small double bed and two old sofas. To me a sofa bed pulls out to a bed, but not these. Literally 2 sofas to sleep on. How you could possibly put 5 people in this room and not breach health and safety regulations is beyond me.
Having said that it was 3 lads going skiing and we only needed somewhere to put our heads down. If that is all you need I would say this is fine mainly because of the location. The free bus service to all the slopes is directly across the road which means you don't have to walk far in your ski boots. Also a couple of good bars and restaurants and a supermarket near by. Do look for happy hours though as at 5.50 a beer it is expensive to go out. All in all food and drink very expensive at the minute.
The bathroom and kitchen in the room are also very disappointing. The kitchen had no kettle, so you have to microwave coffee. It also only fits one person. The bathroom is literally a bathroom, no shower. There are the adapters on the taps to shower, but no screen or curtain so you have to sit in the bath to shower yourself.
Decor was so out of date as well, but IF you only want somewhere to crash on the cheap this will do, but do not try to squeeze more than 3 people in the room. Cannot even consider how we would have got ready in the morning with more bodies

Dear Mixfifi,

I would like to thank you for your recent comments regarding your stay at the residence. Your points regarding the size of your apartment and concerns about furnishings and appliances have been noted for further review by our staff.

I'm happy to confirm this particular residence is scheduled for a full refurbishment and we will continue to ensure our customers’ comfort while this work takes place.

We have contacted the manager of this residence to investigate, and can confirm that they do monitor the cleaning and maintenance standards very closely, and will be particularly vigilant from now on to ensure there is no further reoccurrence.

In reference to the size of your apartment, we take great care to specify the size of each apartment from our two-person studios to larger residences and how each guest will be accommodated, alongside the equipment which will be available to you.

We do provide full details of bed allocation and room size in metres squared for all of our apartments both on the website and in our brochures. In order to avoid disappointment, we generally recommend that you only occupy apartments to the maximum number possible if you are on a very limited budget. It’s best to ensure you have enough bedrooms for your party rather than using the sofa beds in the living area.

We hope you consider staying at one of our residences again in the near future.

Ski hire shop next to hotel ideal and good prices.
Bus stop over the road for all stops in chamonix area.Bowling alley opposite which is great for the kids and adults.
Next to the hotel is a take away pizzeria which makes outstanding pizzas and cheap too!!
mont blanc cable car 2 mins away and the village centre is about 10 mins stroll.....

I booked this hotel in December 07 through Thomson/Crystal. As it was quite last minute I knew I wouldn't get exactly what I wanted but it looked nice enough and they advertise it as being ideal for families- which it is not!

The accommodation is more like a low budget hostel. The rooms smelt stale and looked as though they hadn't been decorated since the 70's. We couldn't bare to stay so I called my thomson rep to see if we could be moved. Apparently there wasn't another room free in the whole of Chamonix so I was told that we 'got what we paid for' and there was nothing more they could do.

Luckily we spoke to one of the very helpful reception staff who said this happened all the time and even though we had been told all the rooms in Chamonix were full, he managed to move us, hassle free to one of their partner hotels across the road (Residence Les Aiglons) which was perfect for what we wanted.

If you want the most basic of accommodation (and I mean basic) then stay here but if you are a family or plan to spend any time in your room, I would not recommend this place.

That said, the staff at Chamois Blanc were very helpful beyond expectation. I cannot say the same for Thomson/ Crystal and will certainly not book a holiday with them again.
