5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2012

Charming, great vibe, very relaxing, comfortable hotel. Perfect with or without kids. Very friendly and helpful staff....also an adorable dog. Very centrally located but away from the crowds. Nice place to have a drink and watch the Olympics or play chess in front room. Look forward to going back!

We really loved this hotel. We stayed in room 209, which had a balcony looking out uninterrupted onto Mont Blanc. Coming back after skiing and having a shower and a nap with the curtains open looking at that magnificent view was incredible.
The staff were really friendly. It's all the little touches: letting us leave the bags while we waited for check-in or for airport transfer; we ordered two drinks at the bar, mentioned we were going to take them up to the room, and they offered to bring them up; they suggested that instead of paying too much for lunch in the resorts, we make up some sandwiches from the breakfast buffet; after we had checked out but came back after a quick ski, they offered to fetch us some towels in case we wanted a shower (we had checked out 4 hours before!); restaurant recommendations, even a booking made for us one night, travel advice, and so on, nothing was too much trouble.
Placed in central Chamonix, really close to the bus stop to all resorts, 1min walk from all the bars and restaurants, nevertheless it was quiet and restful.
Wifi was free, albeit for one hour's access, we used it for all 5 days, at a cost of 3€!
Highly recommended

The good:
Reasonable location
Friendly staff
Pretty comfortable
Decent breakfast....but...

The bad:
Compulsory to buy breakfast
Woefully inadequate ski room (access, size and facilities)
Rooms very small

This is by no means a bad hotel, but it's not a great one either. I wouldn't stay again but equally I don't regret having done so.

Stayed in a triple room on top floor, very pleasant with velux windows looking onto the mountains. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, our rooms was available early when we arrived at 11.30am and they kindly laid on early breakfast to accomodate our transfer home at 5.30am - can't think of many hotels offering this. Would recommend the hotel for great service and its position in the town. The little dog is perfectly friendly and charming too.

Stayed in a very comfortable single room w a balcony over the river, flat screen tv, double bed, and nice bathroom. It's small for US standards, but was perfectly cozy. Walls a bit thin, but not any worse than most euro hotels. Staff were fantastic, answered all my questions eagerly, and I tend to have a lot. The location was central, an easy walk to shopping, après ski, and the train station. But the bus To the resorts is a five min walk w skis, not sure if that's easily avoidable anywhere though w the way Cham is organized.

The little dog is still there, got a few growls but no smell - I thought he added character:)

Only issue is the breakfast was expensive at E14, but nickel and diming seems common in this ski town.

Having read the bad reviews below we were not so sure about our choice but our stay turned out to be perfectly pleasant. We booked one of the deluxe rooms which was of a good size and had a balcony facing the Mt Blanc. The room must have been recently renovated as fittings looked pretty new. Nice touch in the bathroom providing us with bath bubble gel that greatly enhanced my bath time experience. The owner and staff were very nice and nothing we asked for was too much trouble. They were genuine and always tried their best to accommodate us.

Breakfast was better than average continental. In the lobby there were good selection of books and games for guests' use. Contrary to the previous reviews there were no bad smells and yes, we did encountered 'the dog' but only once or twice, and apart from him being old and possibly ill there was nothing wrong with him. I'm not a dog lover but still cannot believe the negative comments given to the poor dog just because of his (not so bad) appearance. The owners love their dog (there was a painting of the dog hanging on the wall in the reception area), so please unless the dog physically bothered you I don't see why we should pressurize them into getting rid of their pet through negative comments.

The hotel itself was in the centre of Chamonix and a few minutes walk will take you right to the middle of things. However, it is a little bit far (5 min walk) from the closest ski bus so if you plan to ski everyday it may not be ideal.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe rooms to be sure of avoiding the tiny rooms mentioned in other reviews.
